David Letterman once tried to start a rumor that after you microwave popcorn, the gas that comes out of the bag causes cancer. I assume it didn't catch on like this little nugget of shit will though.
You would still have to have been exposed to a shitload of microwave popcorn fumes to have been affected. It was workers at microwave popcorn factories who were most at risk.
I worked in wind energy for many years in the 80's, including lots of field work (miss flying kite anemometers, lol), so it comes as great relief that;
They might not cause cancer but they do kill birds , throw snow and ice and create intolerable vibrations. They built one near my family’s cabin. The neighbors were forced to move and we no longer go there.
Wind Power Results In Very Few Bird Deaths Overall
Billions of birds are killed each year by domestic cats. Yes, that’s billions with a b. Collisions with communications towers kill about 6.5 million birds each year; this is about 18 times more than wind power technology. Electrocutions kill about 5.4 million.
According to the Sierra Club and the US Fish and Wildlife Service, wind turbines kill 140,000 - 500,000 birds annually in the US, and that number is anticipated to grow significantly to several million annually as more and more wind turbines come on line.
However, even if the number increases as anticipated, bird mortality from collisions with wind turbines would still be much lower than collisions with other manmade structures such as power lines and buildings.
Every form of energy has various environmental impacts, whether it be coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydroelectric, geothermal, etc., but at the end of the day, moving from fossil fuels to renewable sources will result in a great overall improvement for all life, including birds. I would say they biggest effect of wind turbines is aesthetic, which is what got Trump initially worked up over wind energy when he feared that a North Sea wind farm would spoil the view from one of his Scotland seaside golf courses. They have a many, many turbines over in eastern Washington and Oregon and I imagine it would be irritating and distracting to have a wind farm go up right next door to you, but that is the price we have to pay if we still want to enjoy electricity and not continue down the climate change rabbit hole as we have been doing. Besides, many wind farms are located in barren, windswept places (e.g. West Texas) where few people live and it would be hard to mess up the view.
To be clear I am not against wind power just wanted to make the point that they do have drawbacks that should be considered when planning where to put them
