That Norfolk show has one of my all time favorite Scarlet jams. Long and mellow, the transition into Fire is wonderful. The sound in that hall was horrible and I was really glad when they got back to Hampton in '83.
What a great tour! Jerry even threw in a couple of solo acoustic shows mid-tour and Phil took the last two shows to another level on 4/18 & 4/19 with the "Earthquake space" and "Raven space".
1982 was a good year. That spring tour was when they switched their stage setup for the final time, staying in the same configuration from then 'till the end.
It was also the last year of the band playing the gentle, delicate, flowing approach I love best.
Got into the Duke show by waiting with others at a side door as soon as the show started. Someone pushed it open and we rushed in. Otherwise not a chance of getting a ticket. Ok show. Still don't have it on CD because I think it really wasn't that great. Next night at Norfolk that's another story. One of my most listened to shows I attended. The 2nd set is off the charts with groovy, delicious playing. The band was tight and on kicking ass. And agree with Thom that the transition into Fire was sublime.
The one you have is likely a better quality photo than mine. I always thought my eye was better than my ability to operate the camera itself, so my shots are usually grainy or the lighting isn't very good.
Either way, for a long time I REALLY enjoyed taking photos at shows, but then around '85 I got tired of lugging my trusty but heavy Pentax K1000 around.
Just for the hell of it, here are a few more of mine from 1982...
Lance, I'll post the pic I have maybe tomorrow. Must scan it, It sure looks like your other ones. Same place in the audience. Great pic with Jerry screaming some lyric looking blissed out.

I had never thought about it this way but that's not a bad way to put it. But I do love the energy of '83 to '85, especially in Garcia's playing.
