You wanted to impress some nookie. Hoping the price of the ticket was the price of her heart and other parts.
--Seger thread brought this up. I took Dianne to see BS + his band in 77 or 78 in new haven. He was one of those bands that, like led zep, was way overplayed on FM radio. You know the overplayed, the kind where you never bought the album but knew every word to every fucking song. Annoying overplayed. I was all Dead, Jimi, Who, Frank, music you never heard on the radio - so fuck bob seger, but Dianne liked him, as most girls did, so I took her. It worked like a charm. She was happy and it was a great nite.
--And America. Joyce liked them. And hey I liked Ventura Highway + Horse With No Name as much as the next guy, but spend money to see em ? I don't think so. But in 78 79 new haven I did, and it was another classic nite. Ah youth and the things you do for some squeeze

Ras, i saw Seger twice in New Haven around those years, once w no opener, once w a new band called The Cars...both great shows...
I cant think of anyone at moment on thread topic, (which i actually thought was going to read "what bands did you see only because they opened for the Dead? In which case id have a few choices)...the only one that comes close is James Taylor, but i would have gone to see him anyway. But, JT tickets were always great to have in pocket knowing you could ask just about anyone to go with you etc...;)

At least you have that, I own about 2000 cd's my current wife hates about 98% of them, We have only been to 2 rock shows together in 20 years Joe Jackson at Joe's Pub (they recorded Summer Nights In NYC ) and ABB at Beacon with Clapton (35th anny for Live at Fillmore) the latter she had to go to for business reasons, got free seats out of it

While not only because of
While not only because of that, the one concert that I was forced to pay way too much for was The Jacksons at Giants Stadium. I knew the show would be solid but my then wife sprung it on me the last week before the concert and made it clear that I "better" came through with some tickets. Good tickets for that tour were going for $500 plus and I wasn't going to spend that. I ended up scalping tickets in the upper regions of the section furthest from the stage for just under $200. Basically I could see the passengers in the jets flying over the stadium better than I could see the stage.
Soon after that show I was served with divorce papers. LOL. Guess those tickets weren't good enough.

IMO one of the most overrated artists currently being played to death on what was once a great college radio station WFUV, their playlist has changed drastically over the past few years (and not for the better IMO) and I rarely listen unless I'm in the car. Still send them $100 every March for fund raiser,

Took a girl I was trying to
Took a girl I was trying to get with to see Bush at the Joint (the old one) around 2000 when they had just released the science of things. I never would have gone to this show in a million years (lol probably because they were on the radio) but It was her favorite band and a friend worked the door so for me it was kind of a no-brainer. I actually lost interest in her during the drive to the hard rock but the performance was one of the most sonically and viscerally powerful concerts I have ever been to (can’t believe I’m saying this). Gavin rossdale sang/screamed his ass off the whole show. I thought his lungs were about to explode at the end and the band was 110% fire. No joke (and no drugs that night) but I was seeing stars when we left.

apropos to nothing else, people who do this for their partners , whatever the situation, stay in those partnerships longer, imo. just doing something for the other for no reason is just good, as simple as flowers on a Thursday goes a long way

shows you went to because of
shows you went to because of girlfriends or wives desire or shows you went to with the only intent being to hook up with a girl for the first time?
if its just shows your significant other dragged you to then ani difranco, flogging molly, hot buttered rum. I don't think i ever went to a show to hook up specifically for the first time with a girl but may be forgetting some bar shows in college. I wouldn't have spent money on an actual concert just on the hopes of getting some, never been my mo.

Went to a Peter Frampton show with a couple friends in high school to pick up chicks. All three of us got laid.
Went to see Duran Duran in 84 with a date, didn't care for the band before the show but I actually had a good time. They put on a really great show. Got laid after that one too...

I had a hard time coming up with one. I guess I mostly shared musical tastes with my SO’s. But there was Styrofoamy a band my wife took me to see at Hotel Utah. All their instruments were made of Styrofoam and they just mostly rubbed pieces together.

Wife and me have way
Wife and me have way different tastes in music, and shows that I have seen with her that I would of never went to on my own
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill was not as bad as I thought it would be, but still blah
Kenny Cheney and Zac Brown Band same as above but without the blah, plus a crowd of 70,000 with over half wearing cowboy boots and skirts elevated the atmosphere
Lionel Richie - I just seen my second Lionel show last Saturday and I loved it again. He even upped the commodores songs in the set this last time but still no machine gun. I should of never posted and admitted this one.
