And they will end up with the same success the Orioles had with him. He is a cancer on a team and now that he has his big pay out he will go the way of Sandoval
>>>Lance will now get to call him a punk regularly as he stays in the NL West<<<
To be fair, since he always played on the east coast in that league that uses 10-man softball rules my sample size of awareness of him has been really small. I only started calling him a punk after I saw him more regularly in the 2nd half of last year & the post-season while he was giving 75% effort for the Dodgers. But if he keeps dogging it on ground balls and pop-ups and continues to go out of his way to hurt apposing players as he did with the Dodgers last year, then yes I will continue to call him a punk.
Just as I always called Barry Bonds a punk (I actually always called him Barry Bum, but that's a quibble; THAT dude was & is a pure punk).
The fact is Machado is a great talent and those damn fools in brown down there in SD have now added him to a really nice group of young players on their major league team, and their minors are stocked as well. If Machado gives 100% and leads that group of young talent they will compete for the division and more for quite a while, and if that happens I'll likely be calling him a variety of other names, but I won't call him a punk.
Choosing San Diego is a smart move either way; he's filthy rich now no matter what, but if he plays well and they win he'll be a local hero, and if he dogs, preens & under-performs in general no one will pay much attention, as the Fathers never get any national attention whether they're winning or losing.
Fuck 'em all...
GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
San Diego has a very good GM....a theo epstein clone....and they have a great minor league system from sucking for soooo long....they are gonna be good real soon...(they actually had a good second half last year), now they have a player to build around...wether you like him or not (i think he s a punk), he s 26....in ten years he ll only be 36???
This deal could .....could...actually end up years from now looking like a steal...
Edit...haha! I just read post above this one...maybe i should have read it first...but, it seems we agree ....from being a punk, to possibly being a great talent adding on to a "potentially" good , very young team
The thing with the Padres is, I seem to hear every few years that their minor league is stacked and that they are going to go for it and nothing ever happens.
I guess you consider this a "win" for the Padres, given that most superstars sign with big market teams.
A 10 year contract with a 5 year out clause seems like a really dangerous deal for them though. With their pitching staff they are still looking at 80'ish wins. So who cares about Manny Machado then? Padres fans maybe I dunno.
More than anything, when you give out a contract that big and make a player the face or a franchise, he should at least have some nice character traits. Manny ain't got those.
And these contracts are out of hand. I'm fully on board with professional athletes making big money but when you're talking $30mil per year, it just turns me off. So I guess Mike Trout will soon be raking in $45mil per year? Great.
Overall i think Machado is better than Harper because he fills a needed skill position and also has the bat. Still i think its way too much money. Now its Harpers turn to cash in. Looks like the Phillies. I honestly don't him on the Nationals anymore, spending the money on pitching is a better move and we have Juan Soto. Harper is a very good player just not worth that much.

Well, the Orioles did alright with young Manny and made the playoffs consistently, which would be a step up for the Padres.
Of course, the Orioles had a lot of talent around him.
