Never a good day for a politician....

Forums:

when the debate is whether you're the guy in blackface or the KKK hood.

Funny how little play this is getting almost 20 hours into it.  Imagine if Ralph Northam was a Republican.

And apparently to CNN he is....

C’mon Thom, can’t you link to a nice Info Wars article for us?

Northham sould resign.

Do you believe that Breitbart is a credible source?

Are you sure that you are a research librarian?

A questionable source exhibits one or more of the following: extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing to credible information, a complete lack of transparency and/or is fake news. Fake News is the deliberate attempt to publish hoaxes and/or disinformation for the purpose of profit or influence (Learn More). Sources listed in the Questionable Category may be very untrustworthy and should be fact checked on a per article basis. Please note sources on this list are not considered fake news unless specifically written in the reasoning section for that source. See all Questionable sources.

Overall, we rate Breitbart Questionable based on extreme right wing bias and publication of numerous false claims

>Imagine if Ralph Northam was a Republican<

I'll play... There would be outrage and immediate calls for his resignation.

Now, imagine if Trump were a Democrat...

then choose CNN or any number of other sources you feel "comfortable" with fer cryin out loud. they've depicted northam as a repugnant

Nice hypocritical hit and run Thom. I think he should resign.... Along with Trump. There's no room for racists in a representative government

Yes, Hillman, i am comfortable with sources that have been shown to report the factual information.

I am not disputing this particular report.

I think it's pathetic that a research librarian routinely cites sources known to publish false information.

He will be voted out (rightly so). I believe thats how it works?

When Thom goes to Dc for senate hearings, he likes to sit in the Loge.

Reference Librarian card revoked.

The fucked up thing is that he was a 23 year old med school student, not a 17 year old high school student. Granted, it was 1983 and times were different, but even back then KKK garb and blackface wasn’t cool.

imagine if a republican had done this.

OK

sure.

I recall Thom posting lots of stuff about Republican racists....well, maybe not so much.

I guess the library only has news about Democrats.

The pic was taken in the same year as the first black presidential candidate, Jesse Jackson.

hasn't fox news identified republican scumbags as democrat scumbags on multiple occasions?

i'm sure those were just honest mistakes.

Funny how little play this is getting almost 20 hours into it.  Imagine if Ralph Northam was a Republican.<<<

Perhaps you find it amusing; however, what I find repugnant is how you and other trump supporters apparently feel that by pointing out the "hypocrisy of the left", you're able to justify what might amount to Treason with a capital T.

>>>>The pic was taken in the same year as the first black presidential candidate, Jesse Jackson.

Not correct.  The first was Shirley Chisholm 1972.  I remember that from a bunch of presidential candidate trading cards I had as a kid.  I might still have my Shirley Chisholm card tucked away somewhere.

You're right Rob she was, I stand corrected.

Republicans: the party of Lincoln.

I heard he has recanted and now denies being one of the people in the picture.

Just as bizzzare as anyone dressing up like that is the fact that the yearbook would even allow such a thing.   Didn't anyone on the staff pause for moment and say "Dude, uh, maybe you shouldn't use that picture."

Meh. Another one if those guys.

He's providing a lot of cover for Trump by sucking up all the mainstream media time.

Straight-up bullshit. But that's Thom.

Imagine if Ralph Northam was a Republican.<<

I imagine it'd be a more recent picture.

How soon before the Governor switches parties? I do hope he steps down, his replacement would be an improvement and give Thoms more to complain about.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/02/us/justin-fairfax-virginia.html?smid=...

You can't make this stuff up....

Mr. Northam, speaking in Richmond, cast himself as a martyr of his times, saying he won’t resign because that would be the easy way out. Instead, he said, he will stay in office to punish himself and to force “a discussion about these difficult issues.”

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/feb/2/ralph-northam-now-says-r...

Pure fucking gold.

Pure fucking gold<<<

I can see how there might be silver linings to some aspects - such as forcing the state of Virginia and the rest of our nation to address the massive undercurrent of racism that still exists, and perhaps LG Justin Fairfax getting some exposure; however, I fail to see how any of this could be considered "gold"?

 IMG_1489.JPG

I'll excuse the dubiety of your use of Breitbart as your source, Thom. Criticizing you for that would be like criticizing me for being short (I'm 5'3"). Poor sourcing is just your thing. However, your claim--on Saturday morning--of how "little play" the story was getting is not accurate. Exactly every news source I consumed yesterday morning, over coffee, a period of about 30 minutes, actually LED with that story, and its odd developments...including my local news. I don't care about your opinions, but that kind of thing drives me nuts and, frankly, helps to explain Trump's election.

"We'll I'll be damned, Ronnie, lookit this...there's a racist, yankee democrat up in Virginia and ain't nobody but Breitbart reportin' it."

>Criticizing you for that would be like criticizing me for being short (I'm 5'3"). Poor sourcing is just your thing.<

>...helps to explain Trump's election<

Poor sourcing is at the heart of the problem.  Easy to believe that the media is full of "fake news" when right wing propaganda is your go to source.

A research librarian should know better.

wow, I just learned a new word, perfectly appropriate for this day and age.

thanks, Chance .

Chance pointing out how Thom punches himself in the dick never gets old.

Northam says its not him in hood or blackface.
I believe him.
My undeniable sources tell me its belichick and brady.

There have been protests the last two days throughout Richmond, and some pretty prominent folks have come out to say he should step down. Add to that some accusations of racism during the 2016 campaign. My guess is he resigns today or tomorrow and Justin Fairfax takes over.

Well this isn't going to help......

Former EVMS yearbook staffer says picture on Northam's page likely not a mistake

William Elwood, who now lives in McGaheysville, was a page designer for the EVMS yearbook in 1984, the same year the picture on Northam's page was published. Elwood says the yearbook staff only published pictures that were given to them.

"Each student was allowed to submit a certain number of pictures that they wanted to appear on the page with their graduation photograph," said Elwood. "They chose their own pictures, they were submitted in a sealed envelope with their name on them, and the only time that envelope was opened was when the layout was done on their page."

Please explain to me how this man is still in office?  Oh right, he's a Democrat.

>>Please explain to me how this man is still in office?

Okay, right after you explain how Trump is still in office.

No shit it's not a mistake.  Most every Democrat has asked for his resignation.  Reality is tough for Tom.  Trustarepublican that's been hiding out in a college library.

Sad.

He's still in office because he hasn't resigned yet.

Duh

Now the third in line for governor admits that he too wore blackface at a party in the 1980s:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/virginia-ag-mark-herring-admits-wearing...

Wonder how far the down the line will they have to go to find someone who didn't wear black face or is accused of raping somebody?

Maybe Virginia can just ask Stacy Abrams to move to Virginia and become their governor...

Can we find a Virginia politician who didn't wear blackface at some time in their past?

Virginia AG Mark Herring admits to wearing blackface in 1980

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, a Democrat, admitted Wednesday to wearing blackface at a college party in 1980, further ensnaring the state’s leadership in chaos.

The news broke after Herring called an emergency meeting with the state’s legislative black caucus Wednesday morning.

“In 1980, when I was a 19-year-old undergraduate in college, some friends suggested we attend a party dressed like rappers we listened to at the time, like Kurtis Blow, and perform a song,” the 57-year-old said in a statement after the meeting.

>>Wonder how far the down the line will they have to go to find someone who didn't wear black face or is accused of raping somebody?

Probably until they come to the first woman in the line.

Number 6, University of Oregon law school professor Nancy Shurtz wore blackface to a Halloween party at her home in 2016. She was suspended from teaching but later reinstated in 2018.

"Shurtz apologized in a letter for her costume -- a white lab coat and stethoscope, with blackface and an afro wig -- which was meant to depict Dr. Damon Tweedy and his best-selling memoir, “Black Man in a White Coat.” "

Well, there are certainly exceptions to just about everything - but I am willing to bet 95%+ of all incidents involved men.

Probably so.

thom.  Do you have a face / race in this horse,  I mean a horse in this race   If  So, what is the name of your horse..   is it Seabiscuit or is it you're either with me or again me   (Lots of Nazi images / behavior last night during the State of the Union.   I'm sure it was perceived as all cooperating - just don't investigate and don't not build the wall) -- law and order don't go hand in hand

I watched a rerun. Of Hogans Heroes. They escaped the camp of course and were on a mission to blow up a bridge.  Hogan, The brit , the Frenchman and the American Carter all wore dark shoe polish on their white faces for camouflage.

Tha black guy(comms expert) didn't.  When they were joking along planting the bombs in on and around the trusses the black guys teeth were bright and stand outish. A joke was made of his  bright white teeth.

For what it's worth.

It's hard for the past to conform with the present.

David Duke's face looks like a plastic surgery trainwreck- sort of like Bret Michaels.

Donnie is calling for all 3 Virginia legislators to resign so the GOP can flip the state. Meanwhile, the White House and GOP are praising the Covington HS kids, even though they dressed in blackface ‘for school spirit’  recently, not 30  years ago. No, white hoods and blackface aren’t acceptable. Not now. not then. Good luck Virginia finding less politicians with less a less racist past (and present).

Virginia elected the nation's first African-American governor, Douglas Wilder, in 1988.

Plenty of progressive, non-racist, tolerant people there.

Oh, and Fuck Duke!
