I broke my leg, which led to losing my job, which led to being broke, and of course medical expenses, which ensure being broken financially! Thank goodness for a little savings to carry the day, er, years. At least being self employed has had some merits; great hours, even if the boss is an asshat! But the real benefits have been chasing dreams, and actually realizing a few along the way!
Raises hand. Made a big career change about 8 months ago into tech/software sales and the product is very complicated with a steep learning curve. With that said, I am very optimistic and love selling, so I'm all good. Short term hurt for long term success is well worth it.
Keep your head up plf.... you'll get through it, brotha!
Your kids, friends & family probably won't be happy with that move Tatters, but if that's what you decide to do make it a scenic bridge so you at least can enjoy the fall.
Personally I was poor for many years and deep in credit card debt. Fortunately, with some luck and some hard work I was able to get my shit together and overcome that and am now doing pretty well.
Money sucks, but not having it sucks worse.
Keep your heads up and try to stay positive folks.
After decades of living pay check to pay check things turned a corner a few years ago as my wife and i scrimped and scraped to reduce a bunch of our credit debt, that coupled with a generous raise a few years back and we've managed to help our daughter get through college ( HALF WAY THRU SENIOR YEAR ! )...i had a realization the other day at the market - i was looking at the more expensive apples in the racks and had the thought that i am no longer only buying Macintosh anymore...i can afford the more expensive apples.
That being said, we partied and had real good time from the mid 80's thru the late 90's and were caught paying for it well past the financial crisis of 2008,when we were nearly caught up and then the wife had her hours cut in half, thus her contribution to the household and i took at 10% pay cut and no bonus for 2 years and it took 4 years to make up the 10% i lost. In 2012 i was just making what i was making in 2005 after the 10% loss...75% of those 10 years stagnant...now i can afford the Honeycrisp apples...but it could all go to shit in a heartbeat if something fucks up and the savings run out...
I had 3 in college at the same time, and boys do take longer to finish. All had some academic scholarships.....but. Anyway I now have a daughter with a 4 yr degree in nursing and is an RN. My son has a bachelors degree in something or another and also has his degree in x-ray and Cat Scan which is the field he works in, and paid the way for the bachelors. Both have more money than Mom and Dad. My other twin daughter gets her doctorate degree in pharmacy in April.
I am finally having extra money to do shit again, fun shit, not in town shit, and even expensive apple shit. Best of luck to all that are down on theirs.
Wife and I on fixed incomes. We have enough to pay the bills every month and a small reserve. We never really see any of the money we take in because it all goes right out, with nothing left at the end of the month. So, steady state of not quite broke.
Not me. Doing pretty good. Even when I didn't make shit I wasn't 'broke'. I've always saved whatever I can, and don't spend what I don't have. Pretty simple really. Credit is not your friend.
The law suits alone in my lasts 5 months body of work, will assure that my son will never need to work a day in his life.
I see that folks are putting together "Justification Law suits". I call them..
Those are fucking alibis. I was fucking dying starving in a fucking church parking lot a half mile from a home in my fucking name, where my dog is missing still from
People who survived the level & type of torture laid on me never have to work again....
(I knew that, but for a few folks to say that, means my sister & brother in law are more then evil to have done this to me)
>>>You sure do post a lot for putting in 70 work hours a week.
i usually work 70 hour weeks from about may-september, off of work late november - the following march, and the rest of the time usually put in about 50 per week.
i am much more tired at the end of the day when i am working a 40 hour a week job on the clock that i have to commute to than i am when working 70 hour weeks without a set schedule whgere i live on my farm. something about having to do everything at certian times, not being able to take a break when you are tired, etc, wears you down. i feel like shit after a 40-50 hour week working on the clock, commuting from concord to oakland, whereas i usually feel pretty good putting in 70 hours a week on the farm, where i can just step out my front door and start working, and can start work, stop work, and take breaks at my leisure.
>>Bl, do you ever have to jostle for computer space with other homeless locals? Serious question
I never assimilated into homeless life. As soon as I saw my compadre were drug addicts with earbuds and hoodies.
That was 10 seconds about, I said f that
I hid at my Church, and worked at the library 7 days a week on my movies.
Its the prettiest library on the planet & is very very special place Devine + its nice and large with 50 PCs and very long-tables & 3 floors in a forest
As you know I am nice, but as soon as things don't go smoothly I get anxious and upset.
So on day one, I did not know that if you did not touch the PC after 10 minutes it fucking turns off.....
I started bitching out loud & sadly ( I can laugh now) this very bright big brunet lady comes over (always in a very nice cool Dress)
She says I am the director and she hands the rules, and on the rules are these resulted local homelessness. Being loud and she needed to let me know asap who is the boss.
Coolest place
The bath rooms are gorgeous, Perfect place to get hight & then get back to work. I am sure you folks in California are rolling blunts on the baby diaper changing boards but this is major news that Bluelight is here making his movies, crying, cheering, dancing, making friends, and a few nice girls that adore me.
One day I see a redneck guy watching a Church video or some thing odd.
The next day as he was leaving, he said quietly to the director of that area, "I think Bluelihgt is smoking pot" and she said ( & looked left and right) she grabbed her little fingers together and said "just a tiny bit" and the Red neck said ok cool
They loved the Tom Petty like you have no idea. I could never follow that up in thier eyes & ears
But as soon as I got some cash, what had happened was overwhelming a bit. So I made some more to keep my mind and entertainment up. Ian Hunter ones and acoustic dead to calm my nerves.
But then I ran out of money again and the whole story and adventure was falling into place as story for a film & to complete this in my art was Bruce Hornsby. His music was a vehicle for my son, his mother an the authorities (my sitters) my story and how it felt. To the point that legal complexities involved for them to digest. That was 12/8 or so & they have stfu..
I have been on the net since Telex and the first day I got a 56k modem the lunatic that I am I found Bruce's manager. So 9/1/2018 as the shit was hitting the fan I tried contact a 2nd round of bands to bump there stuff up to HD & explain how the audio is done. Then at the end, I say I am going to do it anyway.
So that both Ann Wilson & Bruce Hornsby do not have to get back to me
Not getting back to Bluelight not only means a green light lol
So there I am with time an inspiration in November to for those two, what I had promised.
I need some clarification, Slack. You and your wife work a combined 30-40 hours a week?
Damn, I used to feel your pain of not having affordable housing. I thought that your wife worked full time, and you were a full time parent, who pulled in extra cash by cleaning pools. Do you think that, maybe, you’d be able to afford housing if you put in a combined 50+ hours? When your son is in school full time will you both work full time?
