Woodstock 50th Anniversary

Forums:

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the Baby Boomers will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their degenerate Mud Festival in 2019.

Who's going?

And the 20th Anniversary of the Woodstock 99 riot.

dudes I am so stoked

Really hoping this Woodstock features an EDM tent.

That would be the shit.

I'm not the same person...

If was at the 69 one today.

I'd rush the stage for Sha Na Na & split....

Altamont will be 50 this year also

super impactful Red and black cape of anarchy   Mick is unique

Sympathy for the devil An image i will never forget and by the way we had a fantastic time

I guess that means I've been seeing the stones for 50 years too. Levi's Stadium oh well here we come

Taylor Swift headliner? Baby boomers love them some Taylor Swift

Vape Tents, Video Game Tents, Beardwax Tents, UFC Tents...it will be epic.

Who would be playing?

Not Jimi, Janis or Jerry. Not Keith Moon, Richie Havens, Joe Cocker or Marty Balin.

Let dead dogs lie.

>>>Who would be playing

Only two original Woodstock performers (Mickey Hart and John Entwistle) played the infamous 1999 Woodstock gig/riot so I don't suspect they will be shooting for old folks in setting the line up this time around either.  I can see them trying to tap Dead & Co., but otherwise it will probably be a bunch of younger bands like in 1999.

As long as someone massively doses all the atendees, musicians and security, it should be pretty cool.

I went to the 99 Woodstock. 2 friends and myself did the VIP, and looking back that was the way to go. The experience I had and what I saw on TV after the event seemed like 2 completely different festivals. I would fill my backpack with bottles of water backstage and then go get in position. We could only go backstage at one of the stages, so when we were at that side we would refill on the complimentary waters. I gave away so many waters that weekend, people were very grateful.

I recall walking to the bus back the hotel (we stayed offsite), on Sunday after it was over, we noticed all the beginnings of the issues. It seems most of the destructive BS happened after the bands on Sunday. The gouging of the customers happened the whole weekend.

The hotel we stayed at was a blast. Most of the bands stayed there as well. I rode the elevator with George Clinton and Diaper guy (can't recall his name, but always wore a diaper on stage). They were wasted. I probably was as well.  I do like looking through my photos (pre digital) every now and again.

Not sure I would go again though. I remember it was $150.00 for the 3-4 day pass.

I saw a sneak peek of the official merch.  Two different colors of jorts.

Riot and a few rapes or sexual assaults , I seem to recall.

I opted for the Summer Phish festival that weekend,  no riots,  looting,  burning,  just Good Clean Fun.  Hot as heck weather-wise.

>>I rode the elevator with George Clinton and Diaper guy

Garry Shider wore the diaper.   Man, I miss that cat.   One of the nicest people I have ever met and, that voice and guitar playing.

I'll never forget the time, after I was playing with them for a few months, that Garry came up to me after a show and said to me, "Rich, you in the band."

I went to Camp Oswego, yeah it was HOT!

It will be August 16-18 at Watkins Glen.

Strangely enough, there will be 2 Festivals, one at Watkins Glen and the other at Bethel. Last month, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts announced it would hold its festival on the same weekend at the concert's original Sullivan County site.

https://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/news/2019/01/09/michael-lang-w...

Bethel Woods described its festival as a “pan-generational music, culture and community event” featuring live music performances and TED-style talks “from leading futurists and retro-tech experts.”

That is a bit strange.  Are you going Judit?

No, China-Rider, not going. I wasn't at the first one, and big groups of people aren't my thing. Are you going?

I might go since it is not too far for me.  I’ll decide when they announce the bands.  Hope it does not flood there before the show or it will be as successful as Curveball.

ha one of the Woodstock festivals will be at Watkins Glen, which didnt handle things so well last time they had a festival.

Hope they’re bringing they’re own water!

If the opportunity presented itself, I would welcome the opportunity to volunteer for the Watkins Glen celebration.

>>>The Bethel Woods event also has not announced its lineup or prices, but artists rumored to be approached include big names like Daft Punk, Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Ariana Grande, Coldplay, Phish, The Weeknd, Elton John, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Pink, The Who, Santana, Zac Brown Band, Mumford & Sons, and The Chainsmokers

Age of Antiquarius...

richie scores!

Be good, custies...

I wonder if some artists will play both events.

Does this impact crowds at lockn the next weekend?

Santana will be playing at the Bethel Woods event.

But he's rumored at the other event...so maybe he's playing both.

Can't say that I'm intrigued by ted talks to lure me in.

The Woodstock 50th at Watkins Glen is being cancelled.  Why?

Is the one at Bethel Woods still being planned?

The promoters don’t want to continue the false narrative that Americans believe in peace...

The cost of a festival today juxtaposed poorly with a historical concert that became known for turning into a free event.

> > The Woodstock 50th at Watkins Glen is being cancelled.  Why?

“... despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name..."

Because the Woodstock Brand name needs an event worthy of it.

Seriously.

St. Mark, are you still an angry younger than a  Baby Boomer fellow?

Just wondering.

Cough cough Fyre Festival cough.

Woodstock 50 Announces Partnership with New Financier

After winning a partial court victory in their case against former financial backers Dentsu, organizers for the planned Woodstock 50 festival have announced they have found a new financial parter in New York’s Oppenheimer & Co., Rolling Stone reports.

Michael Lang, who helped found and organize the original Woodstock in 1969, had been working with his team to lock down new funding for the 50th anniversary celebration, set for this August in Watkins Glen, NY, and though Oppenheimer has not disclosed the amount invested, the partnership theoretically keeps the festival prospects alive, though it is certainly not a sure thing yet, as multiple permits from the state of New York are needed for Woodstock 50 to go on as planned—or to even sell tickets to the event.

“We look forward to putting on an incredible festival,” Lang said following the Oppenheimer announcement. “Words cannot express how appreciative Woodstock 50, the artists, the fans and the community are to Oppenheimer for joining with us to make W50 a reality.”

The news comes after Lang and company claimed victory after a New York Supreme Court Judge ruled that Dentsu did not have the right to cancel Woodstock 50, though the judge also said that the festival’s organizers did not have the right to the nearly $18 million that they claimed was illegally taken from their bank account by Dentsu.

As of now, Woodstock 50 is still scheduled for Aug. Aug. 16–18 in Watkins Glen, NY, with an eclectic lineup of artists like Dead & Company, Santana, Jay-Z, Robert Plant, The Killers, Chance the Rapper, Brandi Carlile, Miley Cyrus, Gary Clark Jr., Sturgill Simpson, The Raconteurs and many more.

They are looking at Vernon Downs, with capacity for 65k people.

What no squirrels left in this world? Just looking to get a nut?

Vernon Downs ???

...isn't that out somewhere near Utica?

Yeah, east of Syracuse

Call me if Limp Bizkit is added. Otherwise a hard pass.

Lol Vernon downs

why not weedsport speedway or the great northern mall parking lot?

really gonna make this one worthy of the brand, I see.

bump for any info at all....lol

The Woodstock 50th anniversary show wouldn't be the only event happening in the area that weekend; the Madison-Bouckville Antiques Show and the Woodsmen's Field Days happen the same weekend. The Oneida County Sheriff's Department is involved with the field days and deals with traffic overflow from the antiques show. A major challenge will likely be where all the concert-goers would sleep.

"There's no overnight accomodations at this event. There's no camping. So at 11:00, these people have to leave. Where are they going to go? Don't get me wrong. I'm sure they have answers for us," said Sheriff Maciol, adding that he'd not yet had a chance to look over information given to him by the promoter at Tuesday's meetings. Overnights might prove a challenge, as there would be up to 65,000 concert attendees expected, and approximately 3100 hotel rooms in Oneida County.

Dead and Co obviously cashed their deposit check as it's still on their schedule.  Contractually they'll leave it there until the final plug is pulled. You actually think that they can pull this off at Vernon Downs in 45 days??  The promoters are stalling for financial reasons.  The 'investors' will be strung out until the last minute.  'Oops sorry, we tried but couldnt make it happen'.  I can picture the hedge fund manager trying to explain to the rich guys 'sorry man, your 2 million is gone but I'll comp you front row tickets to the next Steve Miller band show'.

The logistics of finding places to sleep for the potential attendees is probably the thing that stands between the event happening or not. When I was at the Bruce Springsteen show there, I was surprised on how smoothly things went down although some of the parking is a bit of a hike to the track infield as well as production being a hike from the stage. The stage, sound and lights they assembled was top notch. I'm sure part of that is due to the owner of the track, who has rather deep pockets from his ownership of a number of commercial buildings in Manhattan. He can afford to do just about anything that needs to be done and might just want bragging rights rather than simply making a profit. That being said, if the event happens it will be because of him, not Micheal Lang.

Highgate Vermont handled big crowds for the GD in 94 and 95 without official on site camping.  The local farmers just opened their fields and made $$$.  Same with Deer Creek.

Yeah Highgate and Deer Creek are stellar examples of how a concert should be run..... Really??

It's not happening.  The big names got some cash,,,call it a day and move on.  This is leagues beyond a Springsteen concert.

“Woodstock 50 believes certain political forces may be working against the resurrection of the festival,”

Vernon Downs permit was denied yesterday.

Looks like Dead & Co. have a date to fill.

There is still time to find another venue.   When there is a will, there is a way.  What could go wrong?

Nobody wants to see J z

I'm going to the small town of Bicknell, Utah (population 321) for BIFFStock this weekend. The Bicknell International Film Festival. http://www.thebiff.org/

Movies are "Taking Woodstock" and next night is "Festival Express". The two folks in the blanket on the cover of the album will be there. Still together as a couple.

Gorgeous red rock near Capitol Reef doesn't hurt either. Hangin' with lots of pals and maybe recording some new songs. Good times ahead.

I love Merriweather, they shouldn't sully themselves by hosting this farce.

American Experience on PBS has a new Woodstock doc coming up in two weeks i blv....

BIFFStock 2019 - http://www.thebiff.org/   Good time this weekend. Nick and Bobbi Ercoline were so nice. She's a real sweet spirit and he's really really nice too,

Great ambassadors for Woodstock and the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. If I'm ever in the area, I'll check out the museum. They're having a concert series including Arlo and Santana for the 50th anniversary.

Nick and Bobbi are staying in the area to do some exploring for a few days. They were quite taken with the people who came and the landscape.

Said they had calls from no less than 19 attorneys wanting to "represent their interests" on that pic. They turned each one down. They didn't realize they were on the cover for a bit. They got the album and opened it and starting playing it with some friends and after a while someone mentioned the photo and they realized.

They showed a 20 film that's usually only seen at the museum. Locals had a ball with the idea and had a costume party. Good times. Good music And redrock too!

IMG_0684 (1024x768).jpg

somehow this Woodstock is turning into a bigger dumpster fire than the last Woodstock which was literally a dumpster fire

These folks have commemorative concerts on the 16th, 17th, and 18th. Not listed on their event page is a show by Arlo but no tickets left. It may have been a small event and members probably scooped up the tix.  This is the place with the museum.  https://www.bethelwoodscenter.org/

They should add the letters E and R to the end of the Fish Cheer and shout it in the direction of the White House.

Officially off....

Woodstock 50, embattled anniversary festival, officially canceled

Surprise, surprise, surprise!

It's dead, Jim.

LMAO, just like the original, one big clusterpuck mess. Shouldn't be surprised.

Lang and company only had 50 years to get it right.

Fucking babyboomer shit fer brain morons, still clueless on how to put on a fucking bigtime festival.

They got sooooooooo lucky the 1st time

You could always got to the actual site of Woodstock for a celebration. https://www.bethelwoodscenter.org/
