>>>>I seem to be able to get behind wishing people a "happy solstice" over any other season's greeting.
Absolutely. Because its very real and applies to everyone, regardless of whatever mythology they are into.
It must have been a very profound moment when people huddled in caves first realized that there was a fixed day each and every year when the days began to get longer.
Hope everyone has a joyous Winter Solstice (or summer solstice for folks south of the equator)!
Ironically, Earth will be closest to the sun on January 3rd 2019. The difference between this and aphelion, the farthest distance in July is only about 3 million miles. It does not impact our temperatures.
I think Days started getting longer in Jerseyland about a week ago, but that might be because ex-gov. Christie stole a few dozen containers of Beach Sand as a 'farewell gesture'.
Anyway we've got the Solstice / Full Moon combo, but it's all Overcast. Rained last couple days.
Here in Jerseyland, it gets dark at night. There's "Nautical Twilight" and just plain "Dark", but definitely we differentiate between Night and Day with appropriate clothing and Cocktails.
"Day" - Bloody Mary or Mimosa
"Night" - Dry Martini, Manhattan, Long Island Iced Tea

Phil is searching for the sound, I am always looking for the light.
(And it's not the days that are shorter or longer, they're all the same length, it's the hours of light.)
