Decided to do a spontaneous trip to the southern Oregon coast, as the forecast for 30 foot + waves was just too much to resist. So we found a rental on Cape Arago, and spent several days enjoying the large surf smashing up against the rocky coastline. We decided to add an extra day instead of driving home in one of the big storms, and it was a doozy! We lost power at 4:30 AM when all the CPAP machines stopped working! Turns out, a tree took down a power pole about a hundred yards from the home, blocking the road, so we had the entire cape to ourselves until the road was cleared about 12 hours later (then the rangers came and chased everyone out of Shore Acres State Park).
I took a million pics / videos, but will only share a few highlights (I know how some of you really hate it when I post pics). Hope everyone chases their dreams when opportunity knocks (or in this case blows).
View from Cape Arago, near Charleston Oregon (SW of Coos Bay)

I like the picture of the photographers. The Yellow dude has the right idea. All the dark-clothed people look like Tasty Seals when they get washed into the sea == Shark Snacks.

Nice pics Druba.
Nice pics Druba.
Thanks for making the trek to the coast -- I only got as far west as Sacramento Delta so I didn't get a chance to see the big waves. (Those folks turning their backs to the ocean aren't too smart.) They were certainly happy to get the resulting drizzle in the foothills.
(I am looking forward to the day when Noodler and I are going post the most boring thread ever with a fully illustrated Primitive Stone Tool thread.)

I'm actually looking forward to the "Primitive Stone Tool" thread. Noodler's comment got me thinking -- did they call the famous OR Coast tourist attraction "Seal Rock" because it was a rock that Seals liked, or because the rocks look like Seals ??
This name "Seal Rock" was no doubt, a Zen prank by the founding fathers of the place.
Fave Sushi joint there - "Yüzen".

The same applies to "Turtle Rock" in James J. Braddock Park here in Nort' Joisey. Now, however, the turtles seem to prefer the plastic pads that form the surface of the (non-working) fountain (one of seven -- the others work) on the SW side.

One of our special guests
One of our special guests (and reason for a rental instead of a long day trip), Quinn, made it down from Alberta Canada. He was a school teacher who saved his kids (but lost his home), during the horrific Fort McMurray fire. He actually found some of the sapphire's i'd sold him when sifting thru the ashes of his home. Now he's on his way down to help survivors of the Paradise Calif. fire. He know's the recovery process, how to deal with the asshole insurance companies, etc. Was armed with digging tools, classifiers, metal detectors (he's a fellow miner, actually found his first Oregon gold on Gold Beach!). Was a privilege to share a good Pacific storm with him! He decided to take the coast route the rest of the way (instead of I - 5), last I heard he was hugging redwoods
