Your opinion is your opinion, I on the other hand think he's one of the great songwriters of his generation and i've only seen 1 bad show in about 30 times i've seen him
Seattle show? My partner is a big Elvis C. fan and was planning on getting tickets, but it would have involved an overnight trip and she couldn't take the time off work. Glad we didn't go.
Elvis Costello got drunk one night and said some awful things about James Brown and Ray Charles and then got beat up by a girl.
I'm a fan of his. I believe that his first three albums, My Aim Is True, This Year's Model and Armed Forces might be the best initial output of any artist ever. It is almost a shame that he wasn't a Brill Building songwriter because he can write killer songs in any genre he wants. Stranger In The House is probably my favorite country song ever written. Over the years I've seen him perform fantastically, solidly and marginally. When he is on, he's as good as anyone. The reviews of this current tour have been stellar, so I guess JR got hit with one of those marginal shows. That's a shame. When he performed at Gathering of the Vibes, there were a lot of people (latter-day-hippies) who were won over despite them expecting him to suck.
For the record, I still have Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmonds, Rockpile, and Graham Parker in regular rotation. Hell, I still play Ian Dury and Rachel Sweet. :-)
>> I believe that his first three albums, My Aim Is True, This Year's Model and Armed Forces might be the best initial output of any artist ever.
Oh man, gimme a fuckin break.
Let's see, the Police first three albums, Outlandos d'Amour, Regatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta. Skynyrd's first three, Pronounced, Second Helping, Nuthin Fancy. Led Zeppelin had Led Zeppelin, II and III. Then there was The Allman Brothers Band, Idlewild South and LAFE. Oh, how about Can't Buy a Thrill, Countdown to Ecstasy and Pretzel Logic?
These are just a few that come to mind that absolutely blow away Costello's first three outings and I could go on. Don't get me wrong, I love Elvis and agree that his first three were great efforts but they simply don't hold up to the ones that i mentioned.

Wow that’s fucking ridiculous.
How about The Beatles first three albums??? Please Please Me, With The Beatles and Introducing.....The Beatles. Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers are better than that? The Clash’s first three albums, whichever way you want to go with their discography, is better than the Police. Half of the material on Led Zep’s first three albums was all stolen by Peter Grant.

It’s awesome that people still want to argue about musical opinions. One of my all time favorite musical opinion arguers Bleecker Bob passed away yesterday. RIP, Bob. He liked Elvis Costello.
I attended the Asbury park show this tour, and enjoyed it. The sound was a bit muddied at times, but they delivered a 18 song set, with three sets of encores (2.75 hr show). The crowd was pleased. I have only seen Elvis four times, but the shows from the 86 and 89 are among the best that i've seen.
Lyneord Skinnerd is a garbage dump. The Beatles first three albums make John Mayer look like Hendrix. Who is Rob Lowe? Never heard his music. Clash is the greatest British band ever.
Oh... you mean THAT Elvis. Yeah, he's cool for what he does. Talented guy, great songwriter, kinda cranky sometimes but all in all he contributed some great songs to the cannon of rock and roll.
I never cared for Costello but have recently warmed up quite a bit to his work from the 70's, too scared to venture past that for the time being though.

Graivy has had a hard time ingratiating himself lately. One would think he wouldn't want to alienate himself from the entire group, but that seems like the path he's on.
Ha ha. I displayed missing again. I'll keep my missing covered. Musical tastes are like assholes, everybody is one. I tried Elvis one time. He is a fine musician but not an inspiring performer.
>>>>There was a moment a young man in the front row was obviously in a physical crisis, in fact Elvis had to call the medics so the whole song was going in weird directions
History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues
I'm just the oily slick
On the windup world of the nervous tick
In a very fashionable hovel
I hang around dying to be tortured
You'll never be alone in the bone orchard
This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel
So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice
You know she has no sense
For all your jealousy
In a sense she still smiles very sweetly
Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous
And now you find you fit this identikit completely
You say you have no secrets
And then leave discreetly
I might make it California's fault
Be locked in Geneva's deepest vault
Just like the canals of Mars and the Great Barrier Reef
I come to you beyond belief
My hands were clammy and cunning
She's been suitably stunning
But I know there's not a hope in Hades
All the laddies cat call and wolf whistle
So called gentlemen and ladies
Dog fight like rose and thistle
I got a feeling
I'm going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief
I got a feeling
I'm going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief
I got a feeling
I'm going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing

some great rock and roll there, all in regular rotation here as well, 1979, Rockpile opened for Blondie at Wohlman Ring Central Park, they were so freaking good I had to leave midway thru Blondie, no way they were going to top Rockpile
Anyone remember when Costello made the music video about touching himself in a movie theater watching a mediocre Julia Roberts movie while covering Charles Aznavour's 'she'?

Graivy has had a hard time
Graivy has had a hard time ingratiating himself lately.

I thought the bassist for the attractions was kinda badass, apparently he and Elvis didn't get along very well.
was it because Costello was awful?

One of my favorites from
One of my favorites from Imperial Bedroom, Beyond Belief.
Beyond Belief - Studio version
Beyond Belief - Live version
History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues
I'm just the oily slick
On the windup world of the nervous tick
In a very fashionable hovel
I hang around dying to be tortured
You'll never be alone in the bone orchard
This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel
So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice
You know she has no sense
For all your jealousy
In a sense she still smiles very sweetly
Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous
And now you find you fit this identikit completely
You say you have no secrets
And then leave discreetly
I might make it California's fault
Be locked in Geneva's deepest vault
Just like the canals of Mars and the Great Barrier Reef
I come to you beyond belief
My hands were clammy and cunning
She's been suitably stunning
But I know there's not a hope in Hades
All the laddies cat call and wolf whistle
So called gentlemen and ladies
Dog fight like rose and thistle
I got a feeling
I'm going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief
I got a feeling
I'm going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief
I got a feeling
I'm going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief

For the record, I still have Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmonds, Rockpile, and Graham Parker in regular rotation. Hell, I still play Ian Dury and Rachel Sweet. :-)
ski further
some great rock and roll there, all in regular rotation here as well, 1979, Rockpile opened for Blondie at Wohlman Ring Central Park, they were so freaking good I had to leave midway thru Blondie, no way they were going to top Rockpile
