Just finished Narco - Mexico on Netflix. One of the few shows where each season gets better than the previous one. Can't wait for next season.
The show says the Mexican's basically invented/discovered sinsemilla. They had a 1,000 acre grow in the desert in the 80's that provided three quarters of the weed for the US. They had to put it in the desert to keep it from being pollinated.

Just watched the first
Just watched the first episode last night so trying to avoid spoilers, but since it came up in the first episode, trying to get my head around the idea that the Sinaloa cartel invented sinsemilla.
I am assuming the first episode is set in 1981, because that was the year Kiki moved to Mexico. However, it appears that sinsemilla was already a thing well before then. For example, Black Uhuru had a 1980 album entitled "sinsemilla." I think the term had also found its way into some of Peter Rowan's lyrics by that time as well.
Are the producers playing loose with the origin of sinsemilla?

I would say that it was the
I would say that it was the first commercial sinsemilla grow. Looking back as a young adult in the 80’s I mistakenly thought sinsemilla was sativa since that was the predominate strain I came across when it first started to appear in my small New England town. It also sort of stood for domestic weed. Had a friend whose older brother went to University of Hawaii at the time. That was my first introduction to anything seedless.
