It's a terribly sad time for California, I wasn't focused on that when I started this thread in the middle of the night, I hope things get better, its just been a horrific time lately. In regards to Cape Mendocino not being the farthest west, and I concede I was mistaken about that...but does that mean that the actual map looks more like this? How can that be correct?
in that YouTube video linked in the OP's 2nd post, the endpoint of the ultra runner's trek is the Mattole Campground...
... fun fact, I live 6 miles from the Mattole Campground, in Petrolia, CA
until about 2 years ago, Petrolia had an establishment (the Yellow Rose, since closed up) that served beer, wine, hard liquor, food, and attitudes that wouldn't quit... we used to claim that "The Rose" was the furthest western bar in the lower 48, but no one ever took the time to actually confirm that assertion
For the past many years I've had a theory, I'm sure others have the same theory, but that as mankind continues to migrate west, it's logically the best & brightest, the most adventurous that disproportionately comprise the demographic of the American West, it isn't coincidence or happenstance that the revolution of consciousness is rooted in the farthest westerly points of the good earth...it's divine providence. I think that's what Jerry likely thought of when he sang those lyrics. Go west young man, go west!

It features a prominent three-part vocal harmony by Lennon, McCartney and George Harrison, overdubbed twice to make nine voices in all. Ah, because the world is round It turns me on Because the world is round
Ah, because the wind is high It blows my mind Because the wind is high
Ah, love is old, love is new Love is all, love is you
Because the sky is blue It makes me cry Because the sky is blue
Ah, ah, ah, ah
yep, that's the (now defunct) Yellow Rose on the outskirts of Petrolia, CA
it might not have been the furthest west bar in the lower 48, but it certainly was the westernmost bar in the state of California
I have lived in Petrolia for 38 years, and over that time I spent literally tens of thousands of dollars in that establishment, no joke... and no regrets
While there might be something to what you say, consider how our nation's westerward expanstion / "manifest destiny" affected those who were here first?
Likewise, the west was closely intertwined with our nation's early struggle with coming to terms with Slavery.
>it isn't coincidence or happenstance that the revolution of consciousness is rooted in the farthest westerly points of the good earth...it's divine providence<
Sorry, B-ry, your premise has so many holes in it that it’s just asinine.
Virtually every white American has ancestors that were adventurous and headed West. Your premise is that those who went to CA were even more free of thought.
One in six Americans has ancestors that went through Ellis Island. How exactly were they less adventurous than those who headed out for the gold rush?
About 6,000 years ago there lived a people referred to today as the Proto-Indo Europeans, also sometimes referred to as Aryans because their original location was around the Aral Sea. They were agriculturists and big time horse-riders. Since agricultural systems are prone to cyclical bouts of famine, at around 6,000 years ago these Aryans began to migrate both East and West roughly along the same latitude they lived at before, because these latitudes allowed them to continue implementing their agricultural technologies. Because of their advanced bronze age technology, they were able to conquer many people in a short time. This migration would be the basis of massive population growth through all of South and Central Asia, with India being the main location, and towards the West the Aryans would become the Celtic peoples who dominated Europe from about that time (little later) well into the early days of the Roman Empire. The Aryans had pretty rigid social hierarchization which became the Caste system in India.
So, westward migration was largely just a result of massive famine in Central Asia 6,000 years ago related to the desertification of the planet in a period of massive warming. It's really got nothing to do with being capable or smart, more with being shit out of luck and looking for more opportunities and NOT heading in the direction you came from.
I don't know if any of this information is useful to anyone, but it's pretty interesting to me.
