The above is a draft of a possible indictment by the grand jury, not an actual indictment. While the grand jury felt there was enough evidence to charge Nixon, the indictment was never made because it was felt that you could not indict a sitting president. Same as today.
As of TODAY your statement is not settled or agreed upon by Constitutional scholars.
No, my statement is true. At the time the grand jury said that there was enough to charge Nixon, it was thought that sitting presidents could not be indicted. Today, there is still not a indictment of a sitting president. Some think it can't be done. Some think it can. Still, there is not a definitive answer to that question.
Scenario one: Assuming there turns out to be something of substance (obstruction of justice seems to be the most likely findings), then the Mueller would release his findings to Congress. At that point, the House (assuming it flips) would draw up articles of impeachment and send it over to the Senate, which will vote against impeachment along party lines.
Scenario two: Mueller files an indictment and Trump immediately appeals to the Supreme Court which rules 5-4 that a sitting president cannot be indicted.
Assuming the House goes Blue next week, I think we can reasonably predict they will begin impeachment proceedings against Trump; but as Ken outlined above, he will not be removed from office for obvious reasons.
The fever dream of the #resistance marches on, comrades. Why bother recalibrating the Democratic Party to something palatable for middle American voters (ya know, like Obama did just six short years ago) when we can just froth and scratch and scream about the Twitter President and his crimes against humanity?
Assuming there turns out to be something of substance (obstruction of justice seems to be the most likely findings),..
I learned a long time ago that a energetic prosecutor can usually get an indictment on a ham sandwich. That doesn't mean it will stick. If there is something of serious substance, I would like to see an actual indictment and then let our justice system hash out the issue of indicting a sitting president. What was referred to as a "road map" to an indictment is actually only a potential road map. It remains to be seen if that map leads to the end the OP is saying it will.
>>>>So that's the hill you want to plant your flag on St. Mark?
Yeah. It doesn't take a post grad in political science to see the writing on the wall with any of this. The further Left the #resistance drags the Party, the less electable nationally the Dems become. It's pretty simple.
>>>Later on you gonna try passing it as a passive aggressive troll?
It's almost like an inside joke where no one actually believes the Russian narrative, but it accomplishes the desired impact, history will not be kind to such a disingenuous effort, if you truly believe it...wow, "Sold, the Brooklyn Bridge!". The scam is unraveling as people predictably come to their senses. If that turns your worldview on its head so be it.
hell no. anyone from either side who expected any kind of meaningful closure on this is out of their minds - this is always how it was going to be - a few high profile arrests, no current major officials, no definitive statement on collusion either way...thats how our government works - placations and platitudes to cover up massive corruption and bureaucracy. playing on the brash emotions and short attention spans of the american public to obscure US imperialism and world policing around the world.
every modern US president has done things far worse than colluding with russia to win an election - in our recent history we have countless military coups all over the world, massive destabilization caused directly by US foreign policy, thousands upon thousands of dead civillians, all the while we are kept entertained by some kind of domestic policy media circus. i cant wait to see what our next distraction will be.
>>>>every modern US president has done things far worse than colluding with Russia to win an election
Don't think Jimmy Carter did. What a truely decent and respectable human being. Don't think he really would stand a chance in politics except for that right moment in time post-Watergate.
"every modern US president has done things far worse than colluding with Russia to win an election"
That might be, but by Mueller's own admission Trump didn't do this so what's your point?
If you're looking for collusion with Russians in the 2016 election you might want to take a look at the Hillary campaign and the DNC, the folks who actually paid for the Steele dossier. Not that actual evidence appears to have much of an effect on you guys.
Here is the real collusion scheme: in 2016, the incumbent Democratic administration of President Barack Obama put the awesome powers of the United States government’s law-enforcement and intelligence apparatus in the service of the Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign, the Democratic party, and the progressive Beltway establishment. This scheme had two parts: Plan A, the objective; and Plan B, a fail-safe strategy in case Plan A imploded — which all the smartest people were supremely confident would never, ever happen . . . which is why you could bet the ranch that it would.
Plan A was to get Mrs. Clinton elected president of the United States. This required exonerating her, at least ostensibly, from well-founded allegations that were both felonious and politically disqualifying.
Plan B was the insurance policy: An investigation that Donald Trump, in the highly unlikely event he were elected, would be powerless to shut down. An investigation that would simultaneously monitor and taint him. An investigation that internalized Clinton campaign– generated opposition research, limning Trump and his campaign as complicit in Russian espionage. An investigation that would hunt for a crime under the guise of counterintelligence, build an impeachment case under the guise of hunting for a crime, and seek to make Trump un-re-electable under the guise of building an impeachment case.
From the introduction to Andrew C. McCarthy’s "Ball of Collusion"
My understanding was that 5 friendly government intelligence agencies contacted our intelligence agencies to let them know of some very suspicious activity between the Trumpsters and the Russians was occurring, which turned out to be true...

As of TODAY your statement is not settled or agreed upon by Constitutional scholars.
Here's what happened:
- Grand Jury handed down the charges in Feb. 1974
- July 1974 House Judiciary Committee recommended Impeachment
- Nixon resigned Aug. 1974
- A month later Gerald Ford gave him a FULL UNCONDITIONAL PARDON for ALL crimes committed against the United States while President.
