Ratdog > Wolf Brothers

Forums:

Really says something about the state of modern GD music when we’re getting daily Wolf Brothers threads.

I suspect that it is high time for Hoover & Friends to begin touring popular Brewpubs and Theatres,  and show the World what the Nouveau-JamBand scene is really all about.

Advertise the dates and make a Film;  do up some Kool posters.  I know you've got the potential.

The bar hasn't just fallen, it's collapsed.

i saw phil play with people other than the phamily band last weekend...

Bobby just turned 71.  He's doing what he wants.  go see him or don't.  One thing for certain is the fact that he will not be around forever.  I saw Dead & Co earlier this year in South Florida and really enjoyed it.  to each his own

Thom - why exactly do you come here?  Are you reasonably expecting to see Bobby perform today like it's 1974 all over again? your political and GD related comments are so insightful

If Weir is the one touring, then he's the one carrying the torch.  Why shouldn't there be threads about him?

Other than the HSBF performance of "Days Between", which I witnessed and thought was really good, I haven't had a chance to listen to the Wolf Bros. yet.

I didn’t say there shouldn’t be threads about him, just that his current band is pretty crappy and also the best thing going right now.  YMMV

Herbal Dave,

This fellow / fellowess put the recording in the 'showreel' so you can listen if you like.

It's all good.  Before you know it, the swallows will have returned to San Juan Capistrano and we'll be back to Deadco threads.

I like GD dance parties. One thing I learned early in my GD career was that live acoustic GD music is not a dance party (even more so without Garcia).

just that his current band is pretty crappy<<<

One man gathers what another man spills

i hope RMFJ forms his own band and recreates TFB shows.. that will kick ass!

>>>>>>i hope RMFJ forms his own band and recreates TFB shows.. that will kick ass!

It’s where we’re headed and the shows will sell out as evidenced by comments in this thread.

>>>>>>>>One man gathers what another man spills

Gather it up, Face.

>>>Really says something about the state of modern GD music when we’re getting daily Wolf Brothers threads.

Looks like you just made another one, congrats.

I've been enjoying the tour, I feel fortunate Bob is still out there doing something like this on a regular basis. Personally I enjoy Wolf Bros a lot more than Ross James etc.

Don't worry about me, I will.

And even if it means less elbow room for me, I'd say be careful about inadvertent spillage ... forever is a long time, once it's over for good.

While acoustic was a big segment of the ABQ show, it was definitely not exclusively such ... and Bobby even got some cool effects going on electric worked up into a nice groove at times.  The variety set it apart from D&C; along with the greater space Bobby had to work with to "generate a show" left to his own devices within said space.

If you can walk ...

>>>>>Personally I enjoy Wolf Bros a lot more than Ross James etc.

Thank you for proving my point.

>>>>> I feel fortunate Bob is still out there doing something

So does he.

Inspired by this thread, I decided to listen to Wolf Bros. on youtube, see if I heard anything interesting. Hmm, New Speedway? Sounds interesting. I hit play, some interesting rhythm work by Bob-O, some neat little fills by Lane.....and then: Bob starts singing. I lasted about 15 seconds through his Captain Kirk caterwauling and that's all I could do. Honestly, though, I've never heard a Bobby band I like in the post-Garcia world, with the slight exception of Further.

>>>Thank you for proving my point.

Ive enjoyed Wolf Bros more than the later Rat Dog shows Ive heard, so no..I don't think I proved your point.

Maybe calls for another wolf bros thread?

>>>>>Ive enjoyed Wolf Bros more than the later Rat Dog shows Ive heard, so no..I don't think I proved your point.

lol

Odd you get a kick out of picking on music tastes, but if thats how you spend your Tuesdays, have at it.

I saw Rat Dog in 2014 and Bob was in def worse voice and form than he was in LA 2 weeks ago. Feel free to disagree, but thats my take.

For the record, I'm not picking on anyone. It's just that to my ears, Bobby pretty much suck in pretty much every band he's ever been in. YMMV.

The thread is about the current state of GD music not a Ratdog vs Wolf Bros thread.  My point being Wolf Bros is the best thing going and it stinks.

If you feel picked on that’s on you.

I think Bob Weir is doing the best he can right now,  and look forward to hearing some live streams of the ever-evolving Wolf Bros. tour.

It's great that he still enjoys going out "On Tour" and making live Music.

For me,  Mr. Weir earns my respect just for that.  I might not pay big buck$ to see Wolf Bros. at the Beacon NYC,  but it's pretty cool that he keeps busy and explores new projects.

Last night on GDradio they played the Salt Lake City Show.  I caught Easy Answers, Dark Star, Tenacjed, Dark Star>Cassidy>Dark Star, and I really enjoyed it. interesting segues. I did notice WAS on base, he doesn't overplay his hand

>>Really says something about the state of modern GD music when we’re getting daily Wolf Brothers threads

On a philcentric website no less.

>>>If you feel picked on that’s on you.

So laughing at someones music opinion isn't picking on someones tastes? I call it obnoxious.

YMMV

>>>The thread is about the current state of GD music not a Ratdog vs Wolf Bros thread.

Isn't the subject literally Ratdog>Wolf Bros?

I def think you need to start another wolf bros thread to make things more clear

>>>i hope RMFJ forms his own band<<<

He has one and they're good. They don't play much GD though.

As for "the state of Grateful Dead music", I'd say it's about the same as it's ever been since Jerry died 23 years ago (and in some ways better than it was before he died). Some of it's good, some not so good, a little of it is great, a little is terrible and most is somewhere in between.

The very fact that people talk about "the state" of a band's music 23 years after it's leader died and the band broke up says all that needs to be said about that state; it's going pretty damned good, especially if you compare it to the state of the music of any other band that ever existed over two decades after it broke up.

And as for the perception that Phil only plays with the Family Band now, personally I've seen him perform around 20 times this year (none of those being the little Songs To Phil The Air park deals) and only two of those were with the FB (those were both good shows) and 14 or 15 of those were with varying configurations of quality musicians, so even at his very advanced age he's still traveling around that "state" pretty well.

the kids are making jrad threads these days...

>>>>On a philcentric website no less

4winds gets it.  Sorry if it’s too complex for you greenbeen.

If someone was starting Ratdog threads when PLF was going strong they would have been laughed off the board.  Yet here we are reading about one of the worst post GD bands daily.

>>>>4winds gets it.  Sorry if it’s too complex for you greenbeen.

So...why are you starting wolf bros threads?

To discuss the current state of Grateful Dead music.  Like I already said multiple times.  Again I apologize if you needed it spelled out more clearly.

my buddy went to see them twice...

my other buddy also travels for dead co and phish.

i have buddies.

>>>To discuss the current state of Grateful Dead music.  Like I already said multiple times.  Again I apologize if you needed it spelled out more clearly.

Seems like you are doing the very thing you are complaining about. Apologies if that is lost on you?

Hoover doesn't want to discuss. He wants to put you down if you disagree. Meanwhile, Hoover and Friends isn't leaving Fresno anytime soon, but Stu had the right idea.

Bobby is doing good things. He's been pretty consistent about it. Too bad you don't get it, Hoover. And too bad Phil won't ever tour again, but that's the sitch and what else are we gonna talk about? RIP/Bday/cooking/pet threads for days?

I like bad Bobby music more than edm.

Hollywood band's performance was piss poor imo

and thank God Willie didn't pass out on stage

sturgill redemption

>>Hollywood band's performance was piss poor imo

Horrible. Imagine paying $800 for a box to see that hour of crap. Makes the Kauai show seem like a bargain.

>>>>>He wants to put you down if you disagree

>>>>>Horrible. Imagine paying $800 for a box to see that hour of crap

I admire Bob Weir for going out and doing a Tour.

He don't need the $$ but is Touring for Pure Fun.

So God Bless Mr. Bob Weir,  and let there be Songs to fill the Air.

Phil's set was better than a family band set.

I paid $200 to see 5 artists.

Sturgill's set was worth that alone. Have fun at a $70 wolf brahs shoe you passavie agressive weirdo.

>>>>>>Hoover doesn't want to discuss. He wants to put you down if you disagree.

lol

Sure Gravy, that’s why I tried in two separate posts to clarify what I’m talking about.  Good thing you and Greenbean are here to tell people what I actually mean.  Why are you here Gravy?  Slow day at Garbagezone?

Bobby is doing good things. He's been pretty consistent about it. Too bad you don't get it, Hoover.<<<

>>>Good thing you and Greenbean are here to tell people what I actually mean.

I thought I was here to point out you're complaining about people discussing wolf bros..and discussing wolf bros more?

I'm looking forward to Bob's shows in Chicago, should be fun. Seems only natural to discuss Bob if he's on tour.

I’m not complaining about people discussing Wolf Brothers.  I’m saying when they’re the top topic of conversation the music on the GD scene has really taken a nosedive.  Talk about them all you want.  Go to the shows.  I streamed a show and think they’re pretty terrible so I’ll pass on attending but I’ll feel free to comment.

>>Why are you here Gravy?

Why not? I actually saw a Wolf Bros show, so I can comment. It was good fun in a small theater with cool people. Nobody left on a gurney. Nobody threw handfuls of coins in frustration. Just a good time.

When you get so triggered, I lol.

Triggered?

Whatever dude.  Just don’t appreciate you telling people what I’m here for.  Glad you enjoyed the Wolf Bros show.  How would you compare it with the post gd music happening from 99-06?  Also have you bopped it to my pic again recently?

I don’t spend a lot of time comparing post-GD GD music. It’s all gravy at this point. Sure there are ebbs and flows, but I just roll with it and try to have a good time. Never usually have to try too hard.

I guess the post-GD means much more to you guys that never saw the GD....

But I just troll with it and try to be deader than thou

Yeah, it’s pretty obvious how much you don’t care.

play some fotd and kick the hackey sack around.

lol

get in a fight with the guy next to you then call other people passive aggressive weirdos, oh yeah!

saddle up. You’re projecting.

>>It’s all gravy at this point. Sure there are ebbs and flows, but I just roll with it and try to have a good time.

pats gravy on the head.

>>Never usually have to try too hard.

like you do on the zone?

I'm not touching him, Mom.

is g-train osorojo?

i'm serious.

Love some Bob!

This has been a pleasant tour for the most part.

Would do NYE if I could afford.

But I also love Ratdog so that might explain a bit!
