American cars crap per Consumer Reports

Every Single American Car Brand Is on the Bottom Half of Consumer Reports' 2018 Reliability Rankings

"In their latest survey, CR got info on over 500,000 vehicles from model years 2000 to 2018, gathering information about problems that owners have had in twelve key areas, including engine internals, accessory drive, cooling system, transmission internals, drivetrain, fuel system, electrical system, brakes, climate control, exhaust, in-car electronics, and others.

With typically 200 to 400 samples from each model, Consumer Reports’ latest data shows every American automaker in the bottom half of the predicted new-car reliability rankings.

At the top are Lexus and Toyota once again... Subaru, Kia, and Infiniti have also stayed in the top six spots, though Mazda made a huge leap from 12 to number three.

...German brands are in the middle, with Audi, BMW, and Mini coming it at numbers seven through nine, Porsche at 11, VW at 16, and Mercedes at 17. Korean brands Hyundai and Genesis—as well as Japanese brands Acura, Nissan, and Honda—are also in the middle there, ranked at 10, 12, 13, 14, and 15, respectively....Left at the bottom are the Americans, with the exception of Swedish brand Volvo, which is literally at the very bottom, ranked 29,"

America builds shitty cars that breakdown and keep Mr. Goodwrench employed.

American auto makers probably make more money on financing automobiles then selling them.

Some rat rods are really bitchin'.

Only American cars I ever had were Jeeps.  Fun vehicles, but unreliable money pits for sure.  Wait, I also had a Ford Escort for a little bit too.  That was THE biggest piece of shit car I ever owned.

Had a couple of British vehicles (Jaguar, Rover, & Triumph) in my younger years.  Talk about unreliable.

I stick with Subarus these days.

Is a Subaru more reliable than a Toyota?

This website can be highly addictive and time consuming...but it's a wealth of knowledge, basically the comments are from walking encyclopedias of any particular make & model, very educational

I can see why Lexus is top of the list. One of my cars is a Lexus hybrid with over 150K miles that I have owned since new and I have had zero problems. Going to give it to my daughter when she turns 16 because it is so reliable and safe. I have owned jeeps, Mercury lynx, a ford escort and a Pontiac in the past and they were all mediocre. My European cars have been more reliable. Interesting that Volvo is bottom of the list, I bought my wife one two years ago and it has been fine.

In other news, water is wet.

Suburbans are pretty solid.

I have a very basic clean 1984 Cutlass Supreme with only 45K miles. Purrs like kitty.  A most enjoyable drive. It sat for years. It was my friend's Mom's car.

Not on the list.

My Tesla m3 is the number 5 most sold car in America. It is also one of the safest ....Don't pollute and cost me 14 dollars to drive to Palo Alto and back to Humboldt ........

Just because you're not using a gas engine doesn't mean you aren't polluting. Where does the juice to charge your battery come from? Solar or wind? Hydro? Nuke? Or coal/gas fired power plant?

we have a subaru and a lexus

.... and I have a 2006 Volvo XC70  wagon w/ over 113 K miles that also purrs like a kitty... I suspect Volvo is at the bottom of the list in this ranking because an American car company (GM) bought Volvo after 2006, if I remember correctly. I did my research.

I've been looking into sprinter vans and learned that Ford has their's made in Turkey while Mercedes sprinters will be made in the USA in the near future (for not much difference in price, so pretty much a no-brainer).

It's funny/sad to me that when it comes to labor, the USA is cheap for countries like Japan and Germany, but too expensive for American companies.

tell me something I don't know.

Subys used to be in my top 5- until the head gasket issues- no mo

Lexus -- yes

>It's funny/sad to me that when it comes to labor, the USA is cheap for countries like Japan and Germany, but too expensive for American companies.<

thom is winning.

lol

Turtle, I will be at the Baked Potato hanging with a zoner we all know and love tomorrow night...

Oh?

do tell.

or say hi.

its cool we have become europe's cheap labor.

wait, how do they have a better standard of living, working conditions, vacations and access to health care?

oh that's right, their corporations pay taxes and aren't completely sold out to wall st. and a rotating door of industry insiders and ceos?

seein' Mike Keneally... the Furious one will also be in attendance.

meh... my Silverado has been running strong since I bought it in 2004..

My solar charges my Tesla for free once a week for 3 hrs and I'm good to go 315 miles. The Tesla public chargers charge in 40 minn Also the new Tesla super charges will charge in 10 minn and be offset and run on batteries and solar .

My 1990 GMC 3/4 ton truck was pretty reliable for 20+ years,  just standard maintenance stuff and a couple clutches.  Frame rust made it go out to pasture.  Replaced it with a hi-mileage 2007 Chevrolet 2500 HD (also 3/4 ton) and it's been very reliable.  Automatic trans. but it's the good Allison version.

Sister has a Silverado 1500 (1/2 ton) and it has had some problems with electronics in the dash over the years. Basically she had to replace the entire console once or twice.

Her early 2000's Corolla has been very reliable,  but some parts are expen$ive (Headlight assemblies).

Picked up a cheap Hi-mile Outback a couple years ago and it hasn't cost me anything besides a Tire & oil changes.  Although I want new wires & plugs,  and Subarus are fussy about those.  Subaru OEM or NGK lest they misfire and throw a code.
