My Phish Review

Forums:

Since 1992, I’ve seen Phish twice: Coventry and the Irene Relief concert in Essex. Coventry sucked ass, and Essex May have been okay, but I was preoccupied with being flooded. I hit up Albany on Wednesday.

As a non-fan, I can say that I had a great time. They were extremely high energy and they got the arena rocking. When everyone is up, dancing and smiling, it’s hard to not have fun.

I was expecting a bunch of noodling jams, but those never came. They were more hard driving than than I was counting on, and I wasn’t complaining. I’ll admit, I didn’t “get” some of the jams, but it seemed like almost everyone else did, and they played them really well. When I wasn’t so in to the music, I just watched the lights, which were a show into themselves. In the context of the music being a background for the lights, it was perfect.

All in all, it was totally chill and I had a great time dancing with old friends. The music doesn’t move me like the GD, but they rock and put on a great show. There’s a constant energy that’s infectious.

Bottom line: it was friggin’ fun

lol, close enough

so, you did drugs?

I did my first ballon in over a decade. It was fun. So were the second and third ones.

What are the Bob tunes? The bathroom breaks?

Not everyone seemed to love Wading in the Velvet Sea.

"How many balloons can 60 lbs. of nitrous fill?"

Not sure about that,  but a 20-lb. CO2 tank is just the little two-foot tall one used by Homebrewers and anybody serving fountain Soda.

So that was probably just for personal / automotive use.

Not sure if the rig has changed since Dick's, but I thought it was a cool approach. The entire rig was being raised and lowered to change the "size" of the stage. When low, it felt like a club setting, with the lights right above their heads. Then  they would rise up for a big-room feel. I was high, so maybe this never happened

Velvet Sea is an interesting tune. They put it in the same slot as a Stella Blue would go, but it sure ain’t Stella! It was nice to have a break from the standard stuff, though.

^Velvet sea, like just about every phish tune,  could appear anywhere in the set list.

That was my Phish's Light Rig review, Scoover.
I have many more thoughts about Dick's Night 1. Good thoughts.

By the way I went to see Simple Minds with the wifey last night at the Paramount. Good times with the wife, mostly bad music.

Well, where they put it was in the Stella spot. It was kind of uncanny.

Is the Mango song a long jam vehicle?

i'm not caucasian enough for the phish.

That’s why they hand out drugs on the way in. Nobody is white enough.

Turtle, they play tons of black and brown music.

Virginia tonite...they havent played there in years...look for something different in the "slots" .....

(Dont phish have gills anyway, not slots?)

What's at the top of the list of most shows since last played?

No

Hey BK I share a similar perspective to the band.  I've seen them probably 5 or 6 times now and consider myself a very casual fan.  Often times though I feel like I'm on the outside of  a giant inside joke that I'm not a part of but it's OK.  I like not being so invested in something emotionally or whatever- just a band for me to get high and freak to occasionally.

Has anyone ever witnessed someone leaving a line they were waiting in because a song started? Was it Tweezer?

The jam peaks and peaks and peaaks.

Roggae, Sparkle....my attention split w dodgers brewers, if anyone wants to take list from here, be my guest....crowd is def into it, going nuts a few times already....fun in Hampton...always)

 >Has anyone ever witnessed someone leaving a line they were waiting in because a song started?<

I don't recall, but...

Cleveland's nautica stage had restrooms in trailers close to the stage. I was able to to see and hear the band while urinating. Good thing too, no "break" tunes played at that show

Undermind....

So weird...during sparkle, all of a sudden, my stream went to like a five min petrichor jam....but, i think that was a streamer mix up...i see no mention of it anywhere on phish setlists etc....weird....think i was temporarliy listening to a differant show, or time traveling, one or the other

Go to the bathroom, jambone.

Meat, Rift, and........Walk Away

why not, Jay? what's wrong with being invested in something emotionally or whatever?

Great second set...pretty good show overall...

Set list to follow...but...set 2 featured carini, sand, mountains in the mist , twist, golden age, meatstick, split open and melt, encore w lizards....(not nec in that order )

>>>why not, Jay? what's wrong with being invested in something emotionally or whatever?

Nothing wrong with it at all.  I tend to get way obsessed with things I'm interested in and I was just making an observation that it's nice enjoying something I'm not irrationally passionate about.  I enjoy being rational sometimes.

Last night's show looks good on paper...

Thought both Hampton shows were strong performances.   Tonight should be a good one as well.

The quality I've heard makes me wish I were heading out for the Vegas run.

The 46 days , fluffhead was nuts...just crazy good
