Quitting Smoking Pot

Forums:

Seems these days that I only smoke pot once in a blue moon.   Many of the biggest pot heads I know have quit smoking all together.   Went to a couple shows lately, including Hot Tuna and Gov't Mule, and hardly saw anyone smoking herb.

Are you folks noticing that people in your circles just don't smoke weed anymore?

That all shook out in the 80s, mostly.

hi Bluest, how's that protopipe working out?

creeping dementia ...people forget to light up

Weird Steve, when I'm out in the world I often think that I want a hit as soon as I get home - by the time I get home I forget - hoping it isn't early dementia.

No. I have not noticed less usage. I notice more usage.

I do see a lot more vape pens at shows - and since there are no flames and people can be very discreet with them - that may be why you see fewer people “smoking” pot.

i was just making a stupid joke, judit...let’s hope no worries on that for any of us.

Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer strikes again!

Honestly, you're joking right?

Same here.  With so many ways to consume cannabis, smoking herb just seems so quaint and old fashion.   Who wants to be hunched over trying to light a bowl in the wind in the alley outside the show when you can just put a dropper full of heady tincture in your beer.   That being said, I was at an underground hippie fest up in rural Washington a couple of weekends ago and people were burning ganja like I haven't seen in a long, long time.  One band was even handing out blunts to the crowd before their set.  Cough, cough . . .

weird steve, I was serious about what happens, but (semi)joking about the dementia with you.

And yes, I still use a pipe.

I pretty much quit in 1978-

Smoked like a stove in my early 20's though.

Some pretty good times back then.

Nobody likes a quitter.

After taking over a year off, a couple of years ago, I decided that for me, the benefits outweighed the negative effects and started smoking cannabis regularly again.  I don't vape much though.  I prefer the ritual of smoking more.

I do think the legalization of weed (at least in your state and mine, Ken, as well as a few others) has had an impact.  While undoubtedly more of the general population are using cannabis now that it's legal, I'm sure that for some it has lost a certain "outsider" cachet now that it's not stigmatized like a Pandora's Box.

Having just finished autobiographies by Jorma Kaukonen and Larry Coryell, who both chronicle their struggles with substance abuse, it strikes me as a natural trait for humans to learn from our experiences and evaluate what is and isn't working for us as we grow.

"Without a clear head, I can't do my thing.  I have come to understand that life is complicated, and not always a bed of roses, but compared to being zoned out, drunk and senseless, going through pain when you're sober compares favorably.  And I have a sneaking suspicion that problems are good for us in the sense that if we've got the right attitude, we can grow from the setbacks and obstacles we encounter."

I quit drinking, but I still toke once in a while.

hey Ned, did you check out the Weminuche thread?

I've always gone through phases in my life with decades of not smoking, but lately I've been smoking more than I used to. That said most of my smoking is done in combination with my stretching routine so not sure what that says. I also find the pens are just a little to convenient.

I was recently in Amsterdam for work and it was funny that the coffee shops were all old school. Weed or hash that was it. Not like I did a full on search but after coming from CA where they keep flower in the way back of the store for all the old folks it was kind of strange.

Thinking of quitting for a few weeks just to bring the tolerance down. I have been smoking quite a bit of wax mixed with the flowers lately.

I'm a junkie.....I can't

i think of quitting when i'm coughing from a big hit, then some time passes and the process repeats itself...

for the past couple of years, i've been using dry ice to make kief so as to smoke less leaf...

always loved that edible high though...big fan of RSO and canna oil capsules

I quit smoking almost 2 years ago. Gave up all substances. Really like the clear head, improved memory, calm demeanor.

Seems it is pretty common to branch off from smoking flower to vape pens, edibles etc...  most people I know seem to vape and eat it in addition to smoking it (versus instead of smoking it). But I have also noticed less smoking than I would have expected at some recent shows. For example, I saw the Wailers at the Aladdin Theater in Portland two weeks ago and only saw one guy toke. Years ago the whole place would be lighting up. I think it is a combination of an aging audience, prevelance of edibles and vape pens, and easy in and out during the show so you could just smoke outside the front door versus being tempted to sneak a toke inside. For my teenage daughter, when they say “smoking”they usually mean vape pens or Juuls versus real smoking.

Live shows is why I bought my first pen. I was increasingly aware that I was the only one smoking.

I smoke less and less these days. It isn’t a conscious decision. I guess I’m enjoying not being baked.

I smoke a lot less.  I smoke one hit of bud a few days a week after work.  I should do it more often.  I enjoy those evenings a lot more than the nights I don't.  I grab a pen when heading out for music or to a bar for the night.  That seems to be what everybody does out here.  I brought my pen to a Rockies game and went to the concourse for a 3rd inning stretch.  Completely stealth.  Concerts are dominated by edibles and pens.  Why risk getting thrown out for a bowl or a joint?

I find my that my experiences with edibles seem to be all much the same, no matter the source material. All that matters is the dose. Conversely, when I smoke flowers the high from each strain is quite different.

I have a hash oil pen which allows me to smoke everywhere stealth-like.  Diggin' it.

The vape pen first, then the stupid French Poodle hipster haircut, neatly styled full beard, crap tattoos, and skinny-leg pants.  Where will it end?

But, they love to buy vinyl.

But, they love to buy vinyl.<<<<

Meh, they love to paw through the racks anguishly deciding whether they should buy some title they think will make their friends think they are cool or save it for the latest fashion foppery they fancy.  My heavy duty vinyl buyers are much more devoted to the sound, and tend to look like your normal, everyday folks of all ethnicities and genders.  Some of them would even get labeled schlubs by certain of our fellow Zoners.  But oh, do they throw down for the records without all the posturing.

i can't do the pen things.

does nothing for me...

Good morning, Ateix.  Keep it in your pants.

Funny, Java Dave: I think the same thing every time I read you describing any aspect of your customer base.

Smoking Buds is to Vaping as Playing Records is to Playing MP3 Downloads.

The self-image fixated hipster will soon open Vintage Dispensaries which only sell buds with namebrands dating from pre-1970, glueless rolling papers and Dapper Dan's Hair & Beard Pomade.

I avoided the vape thing for a while, but it's hard not to get sucked in (pun intended) by the convenience and stealthiness of it - especially when traveling, plus it does seem easier on the lungs/throat, lasts longer than buds, and the cartridges I buy really get me ripped - one hit does me for hours.
