Smokin'

Never a good time when you wake up with ash falling like snow and your lungs burning.

Seattle old-timers tell me that until last year, no one had ever seen smoke blanket our city.  Now it's happened two years in a row.  We currently have far worse air quality than Los Angeles and Beijing.  Ick!

Two more days of this until we see some relief on Thursday.

Yeah.  Its just nasty in Portland.  You can taste it whenever you go outside and you barely see the West Hills from downtown. Bleah.

What was it like when you lived in Missoula, Ken?  I know they call it "Fire Season".  Is this type of smoke usual there?

>>>>>What was it like when you lived in Missoula

I lived there from 93-97 and don't recall it being this bad during that time period.  However, I was back visiting in 2000 and it was this bad.  Fires and thick smoke everywhere.   Missoula is down in a bowl so it gets bad air in the winter with the temperature inversions.

It is bad out there, but not as bad as last August. The air quality sucks (126 now = unhealthy for sensitive groups) and there's haze between me and the trees 1/4 mile away. The southern Willamette valley retains smoke and pollutants.

Our local news in Ct announced that our skys are actually a lil differant in color due to west coast fires...thats just crazy. Cant imagine what you all are going through....thoughts and positive vibes etc...

P.s......i DID think this was a Humble Pie thread....;)

Yes, I usually can see Mt. Hood from my window in downtown Portland but cannot see it now!

Remember that pets, especially cats, are very sensitive to smoke... keep your pets indoors and put out extra water for the birds and other critters.

We've had a rabbit in our yard this week.

Still Smokin'

Plus, Portland just broke another heat record.  We are now experiencing our 30th day of 90+ degree weather this year.  The old record was 29 days set way back in 2015.  Prior to that, it was 22.

Historically, the town has averaged only 12 days of 90+ degree weather per year.

It's bad out here but not near the level OP describes.

My brother and his wife just moved from NOLA to Portland on July 27th. He is loving it there and has not mentioned the quality of the air but he is prolly still giddy about living in a state w legal weed.

Ha.  Couldn't place the tune it triggered at first.  Ashamed to say it was Boston.  I think the title is Smokin'.  That's what kicks off the chorus, anyway.

Hated that guy's voice every bit as much as I liked Scholz's guitar playing.

I first thought it was about that Boston song too and now that song is stuck in my head.   "Smokin, smokin.  We are cooking tonight so keep on tokin'."
