what was your favorite 2 man band that you saw live?

?  - i have my opinion

stormy monday

Acoustic Hot Tuna.  Mid 1980’s.  I saw two shows about a month apart at the Rockfish Palace in Athens Georgia and two nights in a row   at the Cotton Club in Atlanta GA; mind blowing!

Acoustic Hot Tuna is a good call, but the best I saw them was with three.

Russo/Benevento Duo was real good.

Amendola vs. Blades is good.

I actually enjoyed a Bob Weir/Rob Wasserman duo show at the Warfield a long time ago.

And I've seen Jerry Garcia with John Kahn.

But hands down, without a doubt, the best duo I've ever seen was Zakir Hussain & Joshua Redman at the Miner in SF.

Oh my.

I cannot recall seeing many duos over the years.

One that comes to mind is Satan and Adam...

Met my wife at a Satan and Adam show

First duo that came to mind was Cheech and Chong- '76 Century Theater, Buffalo.

Ritchie Havens and the guy who played guitar with him whose name I'm embarrassed I can't remember, Philly Folk Festival 1993.

Tony Rice and Jerry Douglas were also great.

Cheech and Chong

grateful dawg? wood bros

Tenacious D

Not a huge Jerry Joseph fan, but he and Wally Igram come to mind ... I remember being totally apprehensive about seeing "just someone on acoustic & a drummer", but was blown away by the extended nuances of how they jammed together as a duo.

David Lindley and Hanni Nassar

Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper at the Bottom Line

FUK YA!

keep em coming (cumming?)

Hot Tuna? Maybe.

Bob and Rob? Prolly not.

Phillip Glass and Nathalie Merchant? Maybe!

Phillip Lesh and Warren Haynes? No.

Mike Patton and Rahzel? Could be.

Larry Coryell & Michael Urbaniak

It got out there at times.

Jackie Green & Anders ~

Love those guys bigly!

Simon & Garfunkel

The only other duos I can think of that I've seen were

Weir & Wasserman

Garcia & Kahn

Jorma & Jack

The Smothers Brothers.

Phil and Bob at Mt. Tam were pretty good.

Always enjoyed Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman every time.

If you don't know Jorma, you don't know Jack

Here's the pro shot video from one of the shows I worked with Hot Tuna, fun hanging with everyone, has it been 30 years already?

Hot Tuna, Corvallis Oregon, May 25, 1987  (Parts 1 - 4, first 3 parts ~46 minutes long each, last ~20mins),

Hard to name a "favorite", but the Milk Carton Kids were an amazing duo. They've added band members now.

Shelby Lynne & Ben Peeler ~

Norman & Nancy Blake

Bowling Green John Cephas & Harmonica Phil Wiggins

Charlie Louvin & Charles Whitstein

Dave Alvin and Cindy Cashdollar was a good show

Jack White's crying hard.

gillian welch and david rawlings

Definitely wasn’t that band with half of string cheese incident where the drummer dicks around on guitar or whatever. I didn’t take any drugs, it sucked.

Jack and Jorma

The White Stripes

Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge // Live on Flathead Lake

I saw these guys upstairs at the Queen in Wilmington. Small crowd. Jaw hit the floor many times.

garcia/grisman

>>>>>gillian welch and david rawlings

OH YEAH!  They are great.

I'll throw in Brewer and Shipley, too.

Ernest and Julio Gallo smashed it back in the day....

Moon Duo

Gunn-Truscinski

Anyone ever see the Everly Brothers?

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds

>>what was your favorite 2 man band that you saw live?

>Anyone ever see the Everly Brothers?

Did you see these 2 guys live?

No, that's why I asked the question.

hmm...not sure, but Acoustic Hot Tuna-  Jack & Jorma at Martyr's in Chicago 2001 comes to mind.

>>gillian welch and david rawlings

oh, yeah!  bucket list.

>>Moon Duo

nice, been onboard since the beginning and I want to see them.

^^ big ouch or "ugh" to a recently posted duo

sorry

I'm having a hard time remembering which duos I've seen live (surely, I've seen some acoustic strumming two-somes).

Last Thursday night, I really enjoyed the opening act for the David Byrne gig: two twins from France who call themselves IBEYI.

Their music may not quite fit the style of other artists listed above, but they had great energy and their sound filled the Fox quite nicely.

Here's a live sample from a radio show earlier this year:

^^ you no like which one?

I never saw them live, but my favorite live duo album is Simon and Garfunkel Live at New York City, 1967:

Anyone ever see the Everly Brothers?<<<

Saw the "Everly Brothers Experience" about a year ago.  They were actually pretty good ... although had a full band.

I think I've only seen two and they were both great:

Paul and Fred Acoustic Duo at some supper club in Schenectady NY

Brothers Of A Feather (Chris and Rich Robinson) at the Fox in Boulder, CO

Joan Shelley and Nathan Salsburg

Steve Gunn and Jim Elkington

Wet Tuna

I would have liked to have seen Bill Frisell during his tour with Thomas Morgan. They’re killer.

And speaking of, he’s doing a weeklong residency at the (New) Stone this week, each night a duo with a different drummer.

Eric B and Rakim

Ike and Tina

Outkast

Richard and Linda Thompson

See ugh thread to reveal unappreciated duo

saw them at a late night vegoose shoe

The Bill Frisell / Thomas Morgan tour was great...

Oscar Peterson with Joe Pass was likely the best duo I ever saw, but lots of jazz duos (and some folk) I've seen that were amazing.  Still love the Hot Tuna show I posted above...

Seeing the Indigo Girls as a duo warming up for the Dead was pretty cool too.

Can't remember seeing many duos, so either they were not memorable or I just plain forgot (is there really any difference?).

The only one that comes to mind is:

Charlie Hunter when he's played with just a drummer.

^^^^Frisell/Morgan was Great!!!

Saw oscar and joe at gamh with my parents

aws awsome

Michael Hedges and Michael Manring.  At the Luther Burbank Center, a cherished concert memory.

Peter Rowan and Jerry Douglas.  Though the trio with Mark O'Connor at the GAMH tops it, mostly due to Peter's amazing performance.

>>Ritchie Havens and the guy who played guitar with him whose name I'm embarrassed I can't remember, Philly Folk Festival 1993.

1993 would probably be Paul Williams, known as Deano.

A few duos from the last 10 years.

  • Peter Rowan & Yungchen Lhamo
  • Todd Scheaffer & Dave Mansfield
  • Tim O'Brien & Billy Strings
  • Les Claypool's Duo De Twang
  • Chris Robinson & Neal Casal
  • Founding Fathers (Falco & Pandolfi)
  • Del & Dawg

In no particular order but the Rowan/Lhamo set stands out sonically and the Robinson/Casal was iduring a downpour at Delfest

Bob Dylan and Tom Petty

1986 Berkeley Greek Theatre

..alone and together tour

Bob Weir and Brent Mydland

(opened for the Jerry Band)

...also at the Berkeley Greek 1988

>>>I actually enjoyed a Bob Weir/Rob Wasserman

I saw them open for Jerry Garcia Band at Merriweather in 1989 & I thought it was good. Of course after a sweet JGB show it became pretty forgetful, but after hearing the tapes a few months later, it was definitely a good set.

Acoustic Hot Tuna.

Jorma & David Bromberg. This was a great show. It was billed as alone & together. They each did great solo sets & then a nice long set with the 2 of them. David was switching between guitar, mandolin & violin. This was at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA.

Lightning Bolt

Lee Michaels/Frosty

The Body (Saw them as a 5 piece as well)

Thurston Moore/Lee Ranaldo

Nels Cline/Fred Frith

People of the North - Krauty organ/percussion duo. I was blanking on their name and finally it came to me.

The guitar duo of Ben Chasny and Sir Richard Bishop is extremely potent as part of the group Rangda (but they have Chris Corsano on drums. One of the best and heaviest groups I’ve seen).
