Uber and Lyft are making traffic jams worse, not better

Forums:

Bay Area issues are UBER/LYFT idiots driving in from Stockton and Modesto to drive in Oakland, San Francisco & San Jose. They clog up the highways I-580 over the altamont pass and castro valley pass. They clog up the streets reading their phones in the middle of the street instead of on the side of the road. They don't know the city so there looking at there phones all the time following directions on Maps. Making illegal u-turns to pick up passengers...

I've been a full time driver in Austin for the past year and the same thing happens here. Out of town drivers are just as much of a hazard as drunk drivers on the weekends. I stay chill.

I thought these two were primarily for the drinkin'/not drivin' crowd... so there IS billions of alcy's!

I take Uber and Lyft sober all the time. People use them the same as taxis.

Who are these people who thought that ride-sharing companies where the drivers are constantly roaming the streets for fares would caused DECREASED TRAFFIC?

lol

my frined in sf said the same thing last year.

and just heard it again this weekend.

It's gotten so crazy in NYC that they just passed legislation to put a cap on the # of vehicles. Of course, a big part of this was complaints from the yellow cab industry represented by the TLC. They're saying the yellow cabs are being driven out of business.

Basically Stockton & Modesto people get bad car loans and are forced to drive for ride sharing companies or the repo man comes and as John Fogerty once sang "Oh Lord, stuck in Lodi again,"

It's called work. Who isn't working?

Ain't nobody livin' in SF or Oakland on Uber money.  If course they come from out of town. Duh.

Try riding a bike in SF and not hating Uber/Lyft! It's impossible. The drivers are clueless. There is no room for any more cars, public transportation is crazy packed.... they are about to build 7 gigantic skyscraper condo buildings (4 of them 30+ stories) within 2 blocks of my apartment (Market and Van Ness area). How are those thousands of people going to fit in a city already too full?

>Who are these people who thought that ride-sharing companies where the drivers are constantly roaming the streets for fares would caused DECREASED TRAFFIC?

Uhhh, the fucking companies themselves?

Cities can bring back segregation and discrimination. Don't let those people in our bougie cities.

>>>>Uhhh, the fucking companies themselves?

Uhhhh, they might have pitched that, but they aren’t idiots. They knew.

Slacker obviously doesn't work. Duh..

How far is your commute?

i envy my pool guy buddy's schedule....

he's had like 6 surf trips this year.

what am i doing wrong?

>Uhhhh, they might have pitched that, but they aren’t idiots. They knew.

Obviously they knew, or just drank so much Kool-aid they actually believe it. Every big (or small) tech company does this. They claim something until a journalist or someone exposes their lies. Facebook is a prime example of this.

The whole Silicon Valley/SF tech culture is just full of shit.  A bunch of entitled bitches.  They can fuck themselves with their driverless cars.

Commute? 7 minutes with traffic.

20 to 25 minutes depending on whether school's in, but it's a pretty damn nice commute, so I can't complain.

Driverless cars make sense for the elderly or those with disabilities, or even getting kids around.

But the tech companies are so desperate to be the first one to dominate the field that they will stop at nothing to get there. Uber (a company that lost $4+ BILLION last year alone) wants to go driverless ASAP and fire all of their drivers in the process. How anyone can use this company is beyond me. That is apart from the issues with their toxic work culture and other problems they have faced.

Lyft is better but barely.

I live 2 blocks from Uber headquarters (hence my screen name) and see those fuckers who work there all the time. Bitches love to wear their Uber gear.

I like Lyft a little better because I can tip in the app and I hear that they treat their drivers marginally better.  The reason I bring up driverless is that it is an example of another tech company promising the world if only we adopt their technology and it'll end up being bullshit. Plus I have no interest in the entire driving sector losing their jobs.
