It’s the Green River Reservoir, in Vermont. It’s a State Park with 35 campsites, spread out along the water’s edge. No motor boats allowed, so you have to canoe or kayak in with all your stuff.
The lack of motorized vehicles makes it especially peaceful. It’s a loon nesting area, and they are the coolest birds in the world.
No huge epiphanies, just relaxing, unwinding and unplugging, with a ton of just hanging out in the water, reading and breathing.
Nice, Hall. The original is much closer to yours, but it lost a lot in the reduction.
The loon call is hauntingly beautiful. There’s no way to describe what it sounds like. It’s also really cool how they fly over the water dragging their feet.
Last year camping I ate some acid for lunch on a hot and sunny day. I was hanging out in the water on this “water hammock” floatie thing (look them up - the best water float ever) that I have, just tripping out making bubbles in the water. A loon popped up about 10 feet from me, and we both just hung out for a while. They are beautiful birds, and it was crazy to see one that close, for that long, at exactly the same water level. Far out!
And then it was gone. It dove under and came up about 100 yards away.

Any grand insights, or was it more of a scratch your ass and grab another beer out of the cooler moment?

Loons! I recently heard some singing during our trip to Glacier National Park.
We get loons in CA, but only during their drab, noiseless winter phase.
Hauntingly beautiful-first time hearing them since canoe tripping in the boundary waters 18 years ago
