I would have put Wake of the Flood in the top spot and also disagree with most of the other rankings. There is probably no right answer here, but endless debate potential :-)
Only Studio album i listen to with any frequency is American Beauty - second might be Working Mans...waaay too many shows to listen to for me to listen to studio albums....
>>>Another useless list. The world is full of them.<<<
Just chiming in here to express that I agree with Thom about this. Not sure if that ever happened before.
American Beauty and Workingman's Dead certainly belong at or near the top of GD studio album rankings, but an automatic 1-2 is shortsighted. It is like the perennial 1-2 of Rolling Stone's "best" guitarists being Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman for so many years. Not sure if it has changed in modern times, and I love Jimi and Duane, but that list was predictable and tiresome. There are other albums/guitarists in the same league, perhaps judged for different attributes.
American Beauty and Workingman's Dead are the most accessible collections of endearing and enduring songs, and both are great. If I had to pick a studio album to listen to, I would probably be more inclined to listen to Blues For Allah or Wake Of The Flood, depending on my mood, than Beauty or Workingman's.
Hypo-pathetically... If side 1 of Blues For Allah (Help/Slip/Franklin's, King Solomon's /Stronger Than Dirt, Music Never Stopped) was combined with Stella Blue, Eyes Of The World and Weather Report Suite from Wake Of The Flood, it would be the "best" GD studio album by far.
also... The author of this useless list failed to mention some great Weir/Barlow songs of the later era. Lost Sailor/Saint Of Circumstance and Throwing Stones are standouts on their respective albums, in my opinion.

AoxoMoxoA And Anthem are a couple personal favorites. Maybe not a lot of Hit Singles from those, but strong efforts.
