Soapstone Wood Stove -- A Dream Come True...

Forums:

People who run 'em say they are Just Great.

So I've always thought,  why not try it out ??

One drawback is that they are Very Heavy.  Cast Iron plus the Soapstone slabs.

They are a Heavy item,  and difficult to move.

The cabin we had in Featherville Idaho had lots of petrified wood around the wood stove, was pretty neat-o

Soapstone Wood Stoves are great, you will love it.

...

Tulikivi

But they dont come cheap.

They do have a few downsides - cracking of the soapstone mainly, plus they take longer to heat up.

And they aren't as pretty. It's not a viewing type fire.

The longer to heat up thing doesnt bother me though.

Thermal mass is your friend.

I've never heard of the soapstone cracking and they are pretty big around here.  We have a vein of soapstone that Tulikivi has been mining for decades in Alberene.

Hey Stu We have 2 one in our cabin and an upright in our house. The Upright round one  you can spin and face the fire any direction you want as long as you have the clearance .We have it on a slab of glass so you can see the hardwood floor all around the stove . Not my idea saw it in a brochure for the wood stove .We had to order the heat shield for the cabin one it made the wall scary hot  .As said above you will love it . Cure the stove on the first fire so you don't crack it .With that humidity back there get the moisture out .

Couple photos if the Summer Storm lets me keep electricity...

That is a nicer version of the Rusty one which I'm adopting.

Cast iron and soapstone 'slabs'.

Thang  was built around 1984,  and parts are somewhat available still.

Mine looks more liek this Rusty item here.  It's not all Perfect and Cherry condition,  but Oh heck it's Free.

Being a Firewood dealer,  I have heard many tales of people's Woodstove setups (it's true).

The Soapstone / Cast iron models tend to hold Heat for some hours after the Logs turn to Coal,  and look pretty if you like Shiny Rocks.

There is a Cherry Showroom - condition example of that model.  Someone in Tennessee was selling that one.

Mine needs a bit of work before it looks that nice.  Lots of rust.  Also it is very Heavy.  Maybe 444 pounds ??
