^ I remember Jerry took a super long break between sets, what a beautiful tour that was, we camped at the various beaches throughout Southern California, traveling on the Doodle Bus...we had an amazing crew, good times! Irvine was a special evening!
As Garcia's impact on western civilization continues and continues and continues throughout the here, the now and the beyond we should all take a moment and realize how unrecognizable America would be if he had not have been...his contribution to humanity is immeasurable, he was a gift of divine providence.
One of the most striking memories Melvin Seals has of Garcia was his generosity—when one of the girls in the band, Gloria Jones, wanted to buy a house, Jerry co-signed for her. “Have you ever heard the term that someone would literally give you the shirt off their back?” he says. “Jerry was that person, he really was. Anything that you needed, he wanted you to have it. People don’t know much about that kind of stuff, but it’s real. He did a lot of things individually for folks as they needed things and was glad to do it.”
Every Christmas Seals and the other musicians would go to Garcia’s house for a small gathering. Seals recalls one particular Christmas gathering, “One year I went up there and just kinda sat in Jerry’s chair. He had a big designer cushioned chair. I just sat there all night. I didn’t get up and play the piano or anything. I just sat there until I left.” Garcia said to Seals, “Man you sure do look comfortable,” and Seals replied, “Man, this is a great chair.” According to Seals, that’s all he ever said, “and two days later that chair was delivered to my house. I didn’t ask for it or see that coming. I just said that I enjoyed sitting in it in his house and he had it delivered to me.”
It's Hartford, you can see the Whalers logo, that would make it in all likelihood either '91 or '93 based on the lighting setup, the one thing you could sense being on east coast Jerry tour, was you could look around at the maybe 350 people at every show of Jerry Garcia Band tour and think, "this is the hardcore, every Jerry performance crew, the handful of individuals at every show".
I don't believe it was 9.5.89, is it possible? Perhaps...a Whalers fan may be able to tell from the retired jerseys, I know a couple Whalers fans, they're in Ireland, it's mid-morning there, maybe I'll ask, this is the video recording

KK, I remember signing the "birthday card" in the lot before the show.
Jerry's health was clearly declining by that point, but Bobby really carried the band on that tour.
