This is really close to us but Darien is a cluster fu*k for traffic, getting in and out for a show cam be a real buzz kill. Hope all present have a great show...I feel a Dark Star coming.
Cal Expo was a bit like that in the early 80's, in that you could see hippies exercising their personal right to bath via the waterslide ride behind the stage during the show. Looked like fun, nearest thing to that around here would be backstage boating at the Cuthbert Amphitheater in Eugene.
A couple of my oldest tour pals are at this show. My retired bud is still shell-shocked he paid 175+ X 2 to bring wifey, but he did it. Our first 10 shows probably added up to 175. We're old.
Saw the Haynes/Herring version of whatever the name of them was in '04 here- nothin' special about the place.
I was up there last night and enjoyed myself immensely. I was blown away by the shakedown street. It was huge and I thought where do these people come from. I bought I nice terrapin couzie. Some of the shirts were real cool. I wanted the batik steally and bills logo combined, but the guy was all out. I have to say this, a little John Mayer goes a long way. The band starts playing and everyone starts singing along. You couldn't hear the band, I thought what are these the beatles? I enjoyed the second set, especially dark star. Not sure if I will catch these guys again or not, but it was a good time. While we were waiting an 1 and 1/2 to get out of the lot, it occured to me why I stopped going to shows there, parking was a cluster """.
Denny, thx for the comments. Confirms my "no spot taken" for Shoreline despite folks coming into town...
90 minutes out of lot plus a big Shakedown = not for me. Not saying "get off my lawn" but I grew out of Shakedown A long time ago. Was going through an old box of shirts recently and found a (fractal stealie) tour shirt from the 90's that said "last in, first out". This Dead and Co scene just doesn't sound ideal for me. Bob singing Jerry tunes... blah, blah.
Love it for everyone else though. I have close friends who are touring, go to Mex, and just love it. From the stuff I've heard on XM, too bad Mayer can't get more tunes to sing. I said that about JK as well...
Back in the day, there was a small venue which grew into what is there now. I saw the allmans comeback your there in 1989. They built a bigger stage and put up this fabric roof and it doesn't help with the sound quality under the shell. I haven't been there in 20 years and doubt I'll be back in while

From what I looked up
From what I looked up (wondering about the location) They actually filled in the Lake a long time ago.
Some developer bought up the acreage around the lake, former swimming spot, and the road to eternal Hell for a peaceful Swimming Lake began.
Now it is some ticky-tacky $$ grab amusement park for the Mall Masses.
Should be a nice DeadCo setlist tonight

Denny and China-Rider and any
Denny and China-Rider and any other Western NY folks:
How do you remember this venue from the late '80's?
I think the only show I went to there was Neil Young in 1989.
My brother remembers it as a small amphitheater; I just remember a stage and a small field.
What are your recollections from before they made it a "real" venue?

>>How do you remember this venue from the late '80's?
I remember going there to ride the roller coasters and not much for the concerts. It was mostly big hair bands back then, and country which they still have a lot of. I probably went for ABB or Neil Young or similar but fuzzy memory.
CMAC in Canandaigua where Phil will be on 7/21 is a way better venue.
