I saw Neil with POTR at the WAMU Theater last time they were in Seattle, but did not go down to Portland or Eugene.
The video and audio streams of the Fresno and Bakersfield Crazy Horse shows were a nice consolation prize for staying home and taking care of business, hopefully, someone will stream Santa Barbara. I wish I could be a little more footloose and fancy free, but, for now, it's not in the cards.
Neil & POTR at Wamu were epic. Played almost 3 hours with deep cuts and even a bust out. The next night in Vancouver was shorter and less epic. Desert Trip wknd2 took the cake, though.

All the beautiful people were out last night for Neil. It was very sold-out, but rumors were swirling of last-minute ticket sales, so there was a long line at the box office just before show time. Cannot imagine many of those people got in though. We grabbed a drink at one of the two outside bars and went in just as the first notes rang out. "Rocking in the Free World" had the whole theater so pumped, after days of news about our gov't ripping families apart, after the Orange Cheeto in the White House exhausting us all with his trolling, this song just felt so right. It's funny when you think how those lyrics were inspired by Bush Sr., to realize who far we've come, yet here we are still. Anyway, super loud, super rocking, everyone dancing and pumped.
The next 4-5 songs brought a more calming vibe to the theater as they worked-out some of the kinks in some slower, quieter tunes. You knew it was a warm-up show as Neil was openly complaining to the sounds guys about which speaker his guitar was coming out of, and even had to stop and restart a tune when Micah's feedback came in too early over his harmonica. The crew worked fast to fix the issues as they could, but it was choppy. This lead Neil to banter a bit with the crowd, which was kind of nice. He was in good spirits, it seemed, despite whatever technical difficulties they were having. He even apologized after one tune "well, that's what it sounds like when you play a song for the first time" (one of the Le Noise tunes, I think). When it clicked though, the band has a lot of power.
Things were settled back in by "Human Highway" and Neil had the crowd contemplating "how could people get so unkind?" Then "Out on the Weekend" had us thinking about a road trip, to see this band this weekend with 100,000 other people in the Rose Bowl...but nah, this little theater with a few hundred people is better any day of the week. "Unknown Legend" was another beautiful hit with the crowd; the whole band harmonizing on vocals showed their dynamism. Micah got to sing his song about loving the ocean, which we could all appreciate, and then the crowd loved hearing Lukas sing on "Forget about Georgia". The last two songs of the set "Love and Only Love" and "Hey Hey, My My" were nicely drawn-out and gave them a good chance to showcase their jamming--this was probably my favorite part of the show. And it was the end, after about 90 minutes, minus the encores. I expected a bit more, but realized their is a strict 10:00 weekday curfew at this downtown theater. So there was just enough time for a couple of encores, and they both fit the vibe. "Fucking Up" had the place rocking hard again, and we left to roll another number after "Roll Another Number".
I must be getting old because it felt great to be in and out in less than two hours and just a few minutes from home on either end. We left feeling satisfied. My wife joked about it being a $70 sound check, but she had a good time, too. I'm kicking myself now for not getting tickets to tonight's show when they were available. Don't think I can deal with trying to hustle for an extra from the crowd tonight, but I'd bet tonight will rock even that much more after they worked out some kinks last night. So if you're reading this and have an extra, drop a line. haha....
Thanks again to Herbal Dave, for clueing me into this show in time to get a ticket. Very good fun.

That was a nice treat to get that stream. Thought they sounded pretty good. Shaking off the rust a little. Lukas Nelson is developing into a very talented player.
It all changed for me after the first couple of songs (on the webcast) - I didn't get the raw Neil and I lost interest, but it did look like he was having a good time.
Yeah, that was the weakest part of the set. Lukas' tune was better. The Powderfinger, Hey Hey, My My set closer that followed and the Angry World, Like A Hurricane encores were pretty solid.
I'm interested in hearing felina's opinion of the show.
Felina texted me yesterday to see if I was going to be at the show. I responded that I had missed out on tix but I wasn't too disappointed because while I haven't seen Neil with Promise Of The Real I have seen them a couple of times on their own and am not a fan, and he chided me with my own words about being in the room to properly judge a show.
I do agree with that, but after seeing the first night's setlist and then watching last night's stream I'm still not too disappointed on missing out (and missing the long travel) if only because of the song choices.
I wasn't in the room so I can't comment on what the show felt and sounded like, but at least on the stream I was again under-whelmed with the band and in the approach Neil takes with that band. The percussionist in particular just doesn't fit. Maybe live he can't be heard, but congas on Hey Hey My My just doesn't work in my ear.
I guess I'm just a shallow flat-lander when it comes to Neil, but I have always preferred him on a Horse.
Thing about Neil & POTR is they have over 100 NY tunes in their repetoire - you could see the list behind Lukas - and they could pretty much pull out any song from any album. While they don't have the BIG Horse sound, the possibility of a changing setlist every night makes it kinda exciting for die-hards (Rusties?). If you know most of Neil's catalog, the rewards can be amazing.

Sorry I didn't come here to put this up...I should have...nice going Dave.
So cool that Neil has 1) followed Lesh and found a way to fuck the scalpers and 2) found a way to let his fans get tics to a fucking 600 seat theater.
This is sold in a general public way and tics are gone in less than 30 seconds. Now, they are available to people who love Neil for a 24 hrs.
24 hours that tics to a Neil Young show in a tiny theater can be had. Crazy. OPL shows were MUCH harder to come by.
