We held a burial yesterday with family and a group of my parent's long-time friends. The location was at the top of a knoll in wild surroundings in an otherwise manicured cemetery in San Rafael.
Dad was 95 with advanced Alzheimer's, mom is 93 and while her body is in pain, and she has some dementia, she is still engaged with family and some friends. She was already suffering dad's loss from Alzheimer's and is feeling the loss in a physical visceral way. They were married for 72 years. They were adventurous souls, always worked for peace and justice, and on their personal growth individually and in partnership.
Greg didn't have good role models for being a good partner and spouse. My dad had worked to become both of those. Over the years when we went to visit my parents Greg would say that he was going to "study at the feet of the master". I brought some of Greg's cremated remains to the cemetery and placed them at the foot end of dad's casket during the placing of earth.

My Dad passed away 8 years ago this week, miss him all the time.
I hope you and your Mom take comfort in happy memories of him.
