The Most Beautiful Thang Showed Up in The Mail...

Forums:

Wasn't expecting,  and then there's a Big Box,  always a nice surprise.

Forgot my pocket knife that day,  so I had to wait until I got home,  maybe 11 PM.

Gosh,  I sure was amazed when I opened it up laugh

Film at eleven ??

big Sunday surprise

maybe it's a new ax

I'm including my latest Axe renovation in the foto for Chacho.

About the axe:  around 2000 - 2001 I rented a place in Lobster Valley,  OR for a while.  It was really "Off The Grid"  with a one-mile driveway from the Road,  generator-powered electricity w/ battery shed (dude never finished the Solar install) and fridge / stove / H2O heater ran on Propane.

Water was spring-fed;  I didn't drink it but the "Log Cabin" place had a bathtub near the Piano,  and also a Shower stall.

37 Acres and twenty miles from town.

So strolling around the woods roads,  I discovered a roof-less Log house,  long abandoned by some former urban Pioneer.  Kicking around in the duff and debris,  I found a few old Stanley chisels,  and this double-bit Axe head.

Of course it was a bit rusty.  Over time I cleaned it up using various abrasives.  Then it sat around for a while.

>>>>>Then it sat around for a while

Don't we all.

Sorry for the delay.

I had to stop by the BBQ guy and make sure he was stocked-up w/ Smoking Wood.

A couple half-Chickens,  and on the right,  Hüsky may have nibbled that one while I was distracted in traffic.

Home-made Sauerkraut,  something new from BBQ dude.  Fermented 30 days at room temp,  then refrigerated.  It's delicious.

But here's the Axe.  I'll try and get better fotos some day.
bbq3.jpg
Hard to make out,  but it has the "TRUE TEMPER" stamp and "X.X.X.X EDGE".  So 50's,  60's,  70's ???  Axe collectors might know.

So I happen to know this guy who likes to fix up old axes and other hand tools,  he carves up nice new handles out of Hickory,  Oak,  Osage Orange and so forth.  Does really nice work.

Here's one with my brand-new second-hand Dado blade I picked up,  for perspective.

The guy engraves his handiwork with mysterious Oriental symbols at the butt of the handle:

I took it over to the 'Asian Studies Group' at the University,  and they believe one symbol means " '17 " which indicates the year 2017.

I currently have three flavors of sauerkraut that I have made.  Really delicious.  And super healthy. Have 3 more flavors still in the closet. They are ready, but have so much in fridge already.  Did not have as much luck with the pickles.  Wrong type of cucumbers.  The fermented garlic was good but all gone now. Need to make some more. I pickled  a bunch of the serrano peppers that I grew last summer. Really tasty but also gone now. Gotta grow a bunch more this yr.

OK,  here's a tight shot of the Dado blade.  It's a "Craftsman" brand with what appear to be Carbide teeth.  Three bucks at the Flea Market,  "New Egypt Auction".   That's where BBQ guy has his Smoker smoking.  Actually a great location,  right off County Route 537.  He's been Sunday-only most of Winter,  but this Spring he plans to rock it Wednesday,  Saturday & Sunday.

So now I've got 4 different types of Dado blade.  Who's got an extra table saw just rusting away ??  I can't be changing blades all day long.

OK Chaci,  I hope you're pleased with yourself.  This talk of Axes got me side-tracked,  and I still have to arrange the location for the foto-shoot of the Beautiful object.

thanks man

did you ever think about making one?

Here we go...

It's a gorgeous hand-made Quilt !!!

Little detail close-up...

So this Lovely Quilt came from Eugene,  OR.
q3.jpg

That is the other side.  It's Waaaaay Beautiful !!
q4.jpg

Again,  some close-up detail scenery.  All sorts of groovy fabric and psychedelic stitching everywhere.

So I never dreamed that I would ever have such a Gorgeous Quilt.  The Lady who stitched it has been winning Blue Ribbons at various Quilting Bees and County Fairs for quite some time.

Obviously,  She is pretty good at her Craft.  Her Husband built a nice large Electrified,  Heated backyard structure a while back for Her sewing shoppe,  and that seems to have worked out pretty well.

Holy Toledo !!

That Dado blade is worth anywhere from $8.99 to $34.99 on the eBane.

So I scored big time,  at three bucks.

The Chicken,  I just traded for Smoking Wood,  so who cares if Hüsky chomped a bit.

Nice!

Somewhere around here,  I've got a nice Jotül axe-head from  olde Sweden.  Nice chunk of metal.

Where did that dang thing go ??

That quilt's quite a gift, D Stu. Nice that it would come to you.

 Thanks Judit !

Those folks are your neighbours.  They live not far from the Fairgrounds.

Have known them for decades.  Awesome people.

Here's the mail it never fails it makes me want to wag my tail.  When it comes I want to wail MAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLL...
