So what's the latest with cryptocurrency?

Forums:

An outsider asks...

No one has posted anything about it lately. What's going on?

Big biz is taking over.

Anyone who hasn't made their riches and cashed them out already has probably missed the boat.    More greed > more crashes > possible gov't regulation > big players win out eventually.

Just my prediction, but that's all I got.

I'm sure it's about to be banned somewhere.

It's directly killing people. You're not a murderer, are you Judit?

Right now crypto currencies are used for buying fentanyl and other drugs so it is a rare technology that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way.

Crypto is going though it's "touch" phase. Soon it will be a bloated corpse with a handful of dedicated followers tweeting about the good old days.

just wait for the bought low sold very highers.

lol

Huh?

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/28/business/economy/bitcoin-electricity-...

Bitcoin, the largest virtual currency, is a particularly voracious consumer of resources because new Bitcoins are distributed in a kind of lottery where each ticket is purchased with electricity.

Bitcoin miners compete for the coins by submitting answers to difficult math problems. Instead of solving the problems, miners use computers to submit a flood of guesses. This can be lucrative: Each Bitcoin is currently valued at about $10,550.

pretty unfair post to throw at Judit.

Ender, don't you pride yourself on being rational and analytical?

welcome back bro n slack

I posted a ridiculous quote from Bill Gates made yesterday about bitcoin killing people. I thought everyone realized I was being silly. I don't think Judit is a murderer. Bitcoin isn't killing people anymore than cash. I can't believe I have to type this.

>I can't believe I have to type this.

i do

I was going to say I should use HTML-style sarcasm tags, but something tells me it still wouldn't solve the problem.

anyone know where i can buy 8 nvidia 1080 ti gpu s cheap

this is like pokemon?

Chacho,

Besides trading, what's some of the cool things you've done with cryptocurrencies in 2018?

Bill Gates made a weird statement suggesting that cryptocurrencies are directly killing people as they aid criminals, drug dealers and terrorists in laundering money.

What do you spend your crypto on, Sio?

Looking to build a mining rig but still not certain. Zcash looks very promising for this. So im learning a lot about that.

Also his token called part has an incentive for staking currently 5%. I'm using a raspberry pi to cold stake my coins. So that was a cool little project, other than that not much.

Interesting. I wonder if cops every think mining rigs are grow ops because the power being used changes dramatically. The helicopter FLIR would show heat too.

I thought everyone used GPUs to mine ethereum. Are you looking at another because the complexity increased and it's not as profitable? Are there collocation services available with cheaper power than where you live?

>>What do you spend your crypto on, Sio?

I haven't spent any of it.

>>I wonder if cops every think mining rigs are grow ops because the power being used changes dramatically.

I've wondered the same myself.

Yes eth is getting a lot harder to mine and soon they will switch to POS as well.

Zcash uses Equihash algorithm making it ideal to mine with NVIDIA gpus.

But it's still a gamble. Lucky the resale of the GPUs is  high so after a year or two (the the block rewards half in 2020) you can get back around 40% of the total rig investment.

Where i live at .085 Kwh that rig (8 1080 i s drawing 2000Watts ) will use around 4$ a day with returns of 2 - 3 coins a month depending on the pool being used. https://whattomine.com/coins

The bet is that the coin will be worth a lot more in the years to come. People are speculating that it will become an offshore kind of bank. https://www.ccn.com/zcash-price-could-hit-60000-by-2025-predicts-graysca...

8000 gpus working for 36 days with current zcash price

my quick calc

How much does that cost?

you can spend it on craigslist.

>How much does that cost? a lot

For sure.   Many people who profited and did the best in the last 2-3 years are in for a rude awakening if they didn't set aside enough to cover the taxes + penalties when they come due.

Depending on what exchange you used and how long ago... the gov't has direct reporting of data from some exchanges.   They will no doubt push for access to any and all that they can get going forward.    That's if your bank hasn't already given you up.   Financial reporting laws are going to bite some folks in the ass, no doubt.   I assume real soon.   It just a matter of where they choose to set the bar for actively going after people and opening audits/investigations.

RIP BTC

Here's one opinion.

Blockchain is another that's being floated, possibly in conjunction with MMJ companies.

Where's Masonskids?

Here's a new one: Crypto Cask:  Whisky-based cryptocurrency

Each coin translates to physical ownership of a share in every cask of maturing whisky in the portfolio, which the company says includes old and rare malts aged between 21 and 50 years.

Imagine the psychological toll that hating Bitcoin must take. It comes with moments of ever-so-short respite and then grueling losses as it goes from strength to strength. Bitcoin – or its spiritual successor – will literally never go away. Ideas are immortal.

I should do this so I could earn enough to buy my family a home.

Safe as Fort Knox

Justice Department officials say that though the proliferation of cryptocurrency and virtual currency exchanges represent innovation, the trend has also been accompanied by money laundering, ransomware and other crimes. The Justice Department last year announced the formation of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team in recognition of the trend.

Anyone here knowledgeable about creating NFT art collections and selling them?  I've been reading articles little by little.

I have a folder ready of digital abstract art created by my cat Daphne (marketing hook).  I'm completely serious, but need to figure out a clever brand name, something better than "Kitty art by Daphne". Zoner ideas are most welcome!

Daphne's Pussi Pix

I looked at that NFT stuff and for the life of me, I am too old to figure it out, but damn are they throwing big money at it

Bad news for FTX

Seen on another board vis a vis FTX crash.

"It's almost like financial markets were regulated after wild stock speculation led to the Great Depression and a subsequent world war. To prevent crashes and such."

Being rich and famous does not make you smart

Tom and Gisele were paid in equity to do that Super Bowl ad; S.Curry and S.Ohtani had equity for promotion deals, too.

Can one still purchase crypto at gas stations?

Well the FTX Arena in Miami is no longer the FTX Arena.

It has gone the way of Enron Field.
