? Re: Dead shirts

Forums:

I'm doing some remodeling and cleaning around my place and found about 20 - 30 Dead shirts. Not even sure why I kept them, but most likely I packed them all when we moved here 21 years ago. None of them fit me any more and many were well worn in the late 70s/80s when they did fit. Some are in near pristine condition, probably because I didn't wear them very often.
My question is what to do with them? My kids/grand kids don't want them. I took a look on line and some of these are either being sold or have been sold for ridiculous prices. Who buys these?
I also just found a ticket stub from a 9/13/81 Greek show and found one of these for sale at a $100! Really? I never kept my ticket stubs, but this one somehow got tucked away with some other crap I had in a shoe box.
If this kind of memorabilia is so important to be priced like this, I feel like there should be some museum or collection I can donate this stuff to. Any ideas?

Both the Mikio & Ed Donohue tye-dyes are of value and sell on eBay

The rest are memories to you and may be rags to others.

Are those the guys from Not Fade Away Tye Dye in New Paltz?

Here's the weird thing about the ticket stub. I worked all 3 Greek shows for Fillmore Fingers. Didn't have to pay admission. Now I wonder why I have a ticket stub from the Sunday show.
Nice pic Lance.

Send pictures of them to @fromthelot on Instagram.

he’s amassing a huge archive of dead shirts dating all the way back to the beginning.

I'm a Custy and I have a ton the kind of fun to look at every for or five years

lmk

Mylar I lost my sunday stub'think its mine

I'll try and take some pics (I'm no Sueshi or Saddler) and post them.

One of the ladies made a beautiful quilt out of the old Ty-Dyes. It came out real nice.

If I'm not mistaken Rock Scully's most recent "old lady " made a beautiful quilt and I was going to ask her to make one for me but never did

hi Jackie!

Quite a few quilts have been made from old GD/rock t-shirts. Also throw pillows.

Does the GD Archive - Library at UC Santa Cruz collect them? That would be a good place for them to be a resource for the future.

You might want to check ebay for potential value. They have over 10 000 (!!) GD t-shirts for sale/auction.

Some of the official 70's shirts are worth thousands.

If you have some good ones I might take one or two off of your hands.

Going through these, most of the older shirts are pretty worn out. Even the one I wore at my wedding is shot.
The front of this '82 Warfield shirt is good,...

...but the printing on the back is faded completely.

This '83 New Years shirt is in pretty good shape, as is just about everything from late 80s on.

Found a few my Dead Giants Ts and some JGBs. Still have my Bobby & Midnites, but it is almost see through.
My '82 US Fest shirt is also in good shape. I also found a few that appear to be Dead related. but I don't think they are official shirts. Maybe lot stuff or gifts from relatives.

One of the musicians I know mentioned the quilt thing and said he knows someone who could make one for me. Thinking about it.

I also sent an email to the SC archive, Judit, to see if they might be interested.

Of yeah, here's your stub, deadtothecore!

Thanks for the input everyone.

Then I have a gold mine sitting in my bureau.

You would probably do very well putting the shirts up on Ebay, either individually to maximize your profit, or as a group. I think you may find that they're worth a couple of hundred bucks to the right person.

Is this for real? :

$2300 for a pretty non - GD looking kind of shirt.

>>Is this for real? :

Yes, complete with a hole in the arm pit.  John Mayer could afford.

That's what I don't understand. What makes these kind of things worth a new motor for my well pump?
If I were to get that kind of money for a shirt, I think I would feed some people.

sell the shirts(on ebay) , buy whatever feeds the folks you want to help.

lots of food in those shirts :)
