Bobby and Phil at Radio City Music Hall

Forums:

I'm really looking forward to seeing Bob Weir & Phil Lesh at Radio City Music Hall this weekend.

I'm going Saturday night 3/3.

Anyone else going and want to say hello, let me know. This should be a fun night.

The last time I saw a concert at Radio City was the Grateful Dead 10/29/80.

I was going to get tickets to see John Prine at Radio City just to see a show there and the Bobby & Phil shows popped up that same day.

I was one of the verified fan winners for the Bob/Phil shows.

Got an email from the producer Peter and he said that 65,000 folks registered for these two shows (x2). All wanting multiple tickets for both nights.

This is going to be special; if your not over saturated in post '95 works from these gentlemen.

I haven't seen Bobby or Phil since The Dead at Jones Beach back in 2004.

This is probably my Swan Song....

I heard a rumor trey might be there

Fuck the haters, it's going to be very cool.

You have a good time now, ya' hear?

Ross James is gonna be disappointed smiley

Color me skeptical of that Trey rumor

That photo is from Fare Thee Well rehearsals http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/kot/ct-wpbloom-gratefu...

lol, they're just throwing shit together now.

"That photo is from Fare Thee Well rehearsals"

Based on the shoddy performances I'm not sure that using the plural in this instance is correct.

Have tix to both Beantown shows but have been skeptical of how these will turn out.  OMG this better not be correct!!!

Hahahahaha

Hah, apparently this rumor was started by serial fabulist Scott Allen: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1865315893510305&id=16...

^^^^

that dude is all about rumors that don’t pan out...the fact that he calls himself a reporter is hilarious ...

>>You have a good time now, ya' hear?

Thanks a lot, Lance.   Should be fun.

How much for tickets?

Glad you're going to the show and looking forward to your review, Bluelight.

Thanks Judit.

Chach, What the going rate for a Radio City show is. A little less then The Dead & Co at Citi Field in June.

$150 + fees is face for orchestra seats for Bobby & Phil at RCMH. I think it's about the same for the Rockettes.

Would you rather see the Phil Bobby Duo with the Rockettes or with Trey?

How high can Trey kick?

Have Fun!!

The Rockettes!

10/29/80

My friends & I were higher then a Georgia Pine.

We decided to go the "Top of the Rock", the observation booth at the top of the NBC building.

We took the elevator up with our Senator Moynihan and his entourage aboard.

The Senator asked us "what in God's name are you young men doing?"

"Going to see the Grateful Dead at Radio City Sir; all 5 of us said simultaneously"

Enjoy the show Joe. Will look for an in depth review. Go with an open mind and just go with the flow.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

I'm not a Bobby fluffer and I really enjoyed his solo show a few years back.

I expect adding Phil should up the ante a little.

Going Saturday

I was going to get tickets to see John Prine at Radio City just to see a show there and the Bobby & Phil shows popped up that same day

John Prine is better than anything Phil and Bob can pull off these days.

Anyone need a Saturday ticket?

I thought the Phil and Bob show at Sound Summit this year was great.  I especially loved the 2 of them kicking things off with Dark Star.  It was nice seeing them give each other a little fist bump after that.  Good vibes, good tunes...I'm jealous, and I would love to go to these shows.

Ha!

Schwa!

you found the many ancient uses for a custom batik

a belt!

a blanket!

a pterodactyl!!!

The shows are being webcast, I will check out one of them from my couch....

Anyone need a Saturday ticket?

There is someone looking for one in the Ticket folder.

Hey Now Ro...The only limit is your imagination.

The shows are being webcast, I will check out one of them from my couch.... >>>

Me too...;)

Looking forward to both nights smiley

Then reading Bluuelight’s review. At least on Saturday cheeky

& perhaps saying hello even. wink

Saturday ticket sold

I am on a plane in San Francisco NYC bound! What a trip.

Last time I was out east for shows was GD summer tour ‘95

my mind is already blown.

I have a feeling these will be very special shows and feel blessed to

be going.

Full report coming!

Dave looking for your Friday night review too.

If all goes as planned; I'll be trying to get into Radio City Saturday at 7pm.

Say hello Dave & Goldy or anyone reading this and going -

I'll be by the mercantile for a while and then sitting in the front left orchestra - 6 aisle G (an aisle seat), short brown hair, wearing a blue Jerry Garcia hat.

I sees drums, looks like we might get a full band

IMG_20180302_073205.jpg

You will get a full band alright.......The Terrapin Family Band!  BWAHAHAHAHA...................................

Hah!...  if ross james walks on stage I will most likely:

1) throw up

2) blackout

3) throw something at him

4) ask why I'm kicked out of venue

5) never see shappy's Phil live again

6) all of the above

OMG. Bobby & Phil playing with keyboards & drums?

Next thing U know there will rockettes & fireworks, calliopes and clowns even

cheeky

Is the yellow security tape in place in case Weir starts rambling too close to the edge?

Never know what Bob will bring

He was rowing away with his guitar the other night, never saw that before. Got a huge response from the crowd. I loved it.

Yellow security tape is a warning that you are in a potential spitzone?

It won’t be the family band ...Midnight  North is touring Colorado ...as for Ross James Who knows...

Should be a great NYC weekend of shows.  I predict top-notch Special guests,  maybe a nice acoustic mini-set.

Over on CashorTrade,  several people will trade a tonight RCMH for a tomorrow David Byrne.

My extra DB  ticket's already spoken for or I'd consider that,  even with the lousy weather.

Here an hour south of NYC we're getting Rain/Snow mix and blustery Winds,  probably until after Midnight.

Have Fun all you lucky folks attending,  and stay Warm.

Kudos to Stu for not mentioning appliances or Asian food.

"I sees drums"

I see cymbals.  But they had already said that there would be more than just the Duo thing happening so this isn't a surprise.

$184.50 with fees. The nerve

tix drop about an hour ago. cash or trade has been poppin too. trey and wally ingram tonite. wonder if any1 else will show up

For those with a Ross James intolerance, no worries, at least for tonight. He's playing with his own band Cosmic Twang in SF tonight.

>>>>>He was rowing away with his guitar the other night, never saw that before

He used to do that frequently to RJ back in the day..

>> trey and wally ingram tonite

Seen rumors that Trey only on Saturday, but unclear

Some guy on CorT has one for 100 bucks,  good deal if you're in or near the City.  Maybe 11 AM post?  Says he's at Omni hotel in town.

Another dude is 'stranded in Chicago' with some tixx.  The flight was cancelled.

Weird- I thought Phil said in an interview that there would not be a band??

JAMBASE: And this will be just you and Bob onstage during these shows?

PL: Mostly. We may get guests for part of one of the sets each night.

Huh?

Weir said he expects some guests to join them as well, and each night will feature both an acoustic and electric set..

Acoustic set = Duo

Electric set = with guests

Let Trey sing!

I decided to pay for the Nugs stream tonight, just too curious about how it'll be played out!

(possible audio stream for tonight)

Phicky

That artist needs to work on hands.

$30.......might just listen tonight to see how it goes & if ok I'll order tomorrow night

I was going to do that and then I noticed you can get tonight and tomorrow for $50....

SICK Pic Druba ! thanks I AM Tuning In where i Can.yes

For $50 I bet you could pick up a ticket outside of the show.

Plenty of extras outside if you can come on down folks

snowing pretty solid

im in and the stage in just two Persian rugs with Bobby and Phil’s rigs. A small drum set just

got set up

here we go....

Been looking at StubHub prices this afternoon just fer kicks.

15 minutes before showtime they've five dozen left,  some decent Orchestra seats around 120 @  and there were upper Mezzanine for 80-90@.

So yeah,  you could probably get in for small $$.  Weather's been real nasty all day.

Trey and Joe Russo rumors occurring on FB, snow sounds heavy, and here's the official poster;  (later start due to snow???)

everywhere infused with that unique NYC aesthetic.

im thrilled I sucked it up and made the leap out from SF. NYC has completely charmed

Phil’s bass sounds great.  Weir sounds pretty good vocally, but his guitar playing just doesn’t stand up on its own.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Being able to see that huge smile of Phil's and Rock Star Bobby laughing at himself for screwing up the lyrics once again is healing my heart. I am at the worst job I have ever had in 30 years in the business and is killing my soul. Thank goodness its only a seasonal gig that will end soon. It is so hard to be around so much negative energy. So Grateful for the boys still giving so much of themselves for us.

I love you Bobby and Phil!

Hi ya Fiddle! Hope all is well! I too am very nostalgic at this moment.

There seems to be some magic in that beautiful venue tonight. Is Phil bringing out Bobby or are they just so intermeshed after all these years it is natural? Whatever cosmic juju is flowing please keep it coming boys! Lovin it!!!!!

Hi y'all. The guys and their music - both so sweet. I'm delighted.

I agree, Stu. floatilla's nice, a bit behind the video, but I don't care.

It’s a beautiful thing going down people

Loved the Operator Pigpen nod. Weir missed the just like NYC line in ramble on rose. lol. They seem to be enjoying their selfs. A little rehearsed but not too much which is good.

See ya at the Cap 3/15

Wow. A 3 1/2 hour show that ended after 11:30.

Manyana baby!

Good night, Zoners. It was nice to share this show with yall.

(((((Box)))))

No big whoop. Just another night of fine music from Phil & Bob, and just another night with a different approach from Phil.

Par for the course these days.

The big whoop for me, Lance, is that Phil makes magic. And it's so fucking sweet. Again.

Thanks ya'll for a fine evening.

Get our groove on tomorrow perhaps?

May your dreams be peaceful and sweet

Love,

Merri

So nice to see you around, Merri.

And the rest of yous, too!

Just saw some of the post-show crowd (I work a block away).  Lots of smiles.

He sure does Judit.

Phil is a Wizard of the Highest Order

come on ya’ll......what did you think....this is Phil and Bobby. Pure. Pristine. The silence around

them speaks untold volumes of magic and beauty if you listen with your heart. This is what remains of

why most of us are here at all. Very very very sacred special show run.

Its only gonna get better as they warm up each night.

A powerful aspect I didn’t anticipate was how much of a complete sing along these shows are. It seemed as much about all of our voices together than them

that was GD church tonight without any of the filler we’ve all grown to accept and even like since Jerry was around.

The way Phil’s playing enveloped and trembled that Hall tonight I will not soon forget. His

Mountains > Birdsong was profoundly delicate and psychedelic. As was his Peggy-O

Bobby crushed Let it Grow and Hard Rain completely

so Grateful. Amen!

I loved it, absolutely loved it!

That was fantastic!!

Watched on the Utube. First set a bit rough - Bob not up to speed on the acoustic. Once he strapped on the Strat, and for almost all of Set II, it was pure magic.

Best part for me was how loud and clear Phil was. Since GD days he's mostly played a little back in the mix; tonight he had to step up, and he had less competition, obviously. You could almost hear it as a 3 hour Phil jam.

Just checked out some of the Youtube also... wow. Phil's lead bass lines over Weir who seems really focused in the last week, Florida DeadCo was right on.

what's not to like?

enjoy it while you can, Bob's playing struck me, his vocal has been spot on forever but really enjoyed his playing tonight with Phil... good times.

Looks like a nice setlist, wanna check this one out!

I was very skeptical about these shows.  I am watching the video and I am surprised by how good it is.

I think when I'm at the Boston show Wednesday I'm not going to be listening to much else than Phil.  But what a great opportunity to do so.

Bobby's a little rough but the great magician Phillip Chapman Lesh has brought out his greatest wand and sharing his best magic with us.  Rejoice.

Long Live The Fuckin' Grateful Dead.

I was amazed at how much I enjoyed that, you never can tell. go to the show!!

Phil Lesh continues to be the man. Exquisite playing.

Bobby passable. Seems like he should just stick to acoustic for the whole show. Dubious songs choices but par for the course.

>> Best part for me was how loud and clear Phil was. Since GD days he's mostly played a little back in the mix; tonight he had to step up, and he had less competition, obviously. You could almost hear it as a 3 hour Phil jam.

Yup. Very much so

I missed last night's show, but I will listen to it today.  Sounds like a great time was had by all.

The best part of this thread?  The return of Merriweather Girl.  Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.  Welcome back.  It's so good to see you here.

I love the story before and then the playing of Lost Sailor-St. of Circumstance ....Phil's lead base out of Sailor into Saint is PHANPHREAKINGTASTIC!

Holy shit, Wally looks old and gaunt.

(((((Quin)))))

Thank You!!!

Mtn of the Moon and Let it Grow were great. Phil really filled the void left by no lead guitar. Curious to see if they have any sit-ins. I almost like it clean as-is.

The mix had a Hot Tuna vibe to it. HOT.

listening to let it grow...i am shocked this isnt terrible. i would prefer a full band and im not being blown away by anything, but i might actually see this if it was in my area and i had some friends going - not sure if im stoked on it enough to dose and/or go solo, but this isnt anything like the sound summit darkstar vid or the solo bob show i saw a few years back.

add sless and chimenti and the band soars. phil and bob take all vocals.

i agree w/ surfdead, first set decent, but bobby on the strat was killer for the 2nd set. phil playing as good as he did made me nostalgic for some good ol' PLF. damn has he been underperforming w/ the family bland. looking forward to tonight.

Special thx 2 Fitzman 4 providing comfy ducats. smiley  Now 4 some I-Pics wink

this hard rain really brings to mind the one from 03-12-10 phils bday bill g civic

it was just a wonderful night - good people, great place, wonderful songs...the first four songs were like being in church listening to the choir...

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin'
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin'
I saw a white ladder all covered with water
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall

"I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children
...And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall"

This.

great show

"Weir sounds pretty good vocally, but his guitar playing just doesn’t stand up on its own."

I thought the same for the first few songs, then he really took off - often sounded like two guitars, and I mean that in a positive way

I had my doubts, but they pulled it off really well, lots of 1980 overtones while keeping it in the now

tix won't be cheap tonight

Great to see this wonderful response to last night.  Everyone there seemed to love what they got; and these days it's hard to get everyone to love anything.

Thanks for the pics and thanks QUINN!!!

Bobby was in great form and will probably only get better though the six shows.

The sound and feel of the room was awesome.

And PHIL!!!!  You can always just listen to him, but it was easier last night to hear he's a maestro and remember how much he is a part of the music we love.

ps, I really hope the weather did not leave too many stranded in the wrong city.

Much better than I expected.

Thanks to the streamers and the zoners who posted the links.

>>>often sounded like two guitars, and I mean that in a positive way

is this technique or trickery?

That youtube link that Uptown shared is great, though it'll likely get taken down soon.... (music starts around the 31:45 minute mark)

I'd like to capture that, Noodler, but the normal dl sites aren't working. They come up: Forbidden.

Any ideas, anyone?

Grab it right from the you tuuuube.

Floops - Quins Soundcloud has a download option - Scroll down and click the 3 dots at each song

I enjoyed watching this show, they jammed and it's good to see that old gd synergy on stage.

Did you guys notice Bob singing in French?

webcast replay of 3/2 show starts about 31:40

worth watching... again!

Some great reminders why I always come back to  this music. Mountains of the Moon had a few fantastic moments.  Can't remember the last time I enjoyed Bobby and Phil so much.

That Mountains was a Phil Masterpiece

The depth and power of his bass trembled my seat in the way upper mezz

Phil's made MOTM a powerhouse across the post-Garcia landscape.  And lineups.

It's not something you look forward to, but it's always something you remember.

YMMV.

Peg>Me and My>Mountains coolyes Killer Sound !
