Alaska Airlines plane turns back after passenger strips naked

A passenger stripped naked and locked himself in a bathroom on an Alaska Airlines flight Wednesday, forcing the plane to return to Anchorage shortly after takeoff.

Airport Police and Fire Sgt. Darcey Perry confirmed the incident to KTVA TV of Anchorage, saying officers were dispatched to meet Alaska Flight 146 when it returned to the airport there at about 3 a.m. local time.

“There was a subject on the aircraft that had barricaded or locked himself in the bathroom, the lavatory,” Perry said to KTVA. “Flight attendants did find that the subject was naked.”

"The police came on and took him out the back door," Kate Danyluk, an Anchorage teacher aboard Flight 146, said to The Associated Press.

She told the news agency she initially suspected something was amiss when flight attendants kept going back and forth in the aisles and had put on rubber gloves.

Danyluk said she never saw the man after he reportedly took his clothes off, telling AP that several other men stood nearby to block the view. She said he heard from others on the planes that "he had taken off his clothes and he just wasn't in his right mind."

The incident forced a diversion and put Flight 146 passengers hours behind schedule for their leg to Seattle.

"I'd rather go back to Anchorage than have something happen," Danyluk added to AP. "Safety first."

Alaska Airlines spokesman Tim Thompson told AP via email Flight 146 “returned to Anchorage due to a passenger not following flight attendant's instructions.”

“While no emergency was declared, the decision was made to return to Anchorage," he added.

The flight originally departed at 1:21 a.m. local time, but circled back to Anchorage less than an hour later, according to a flight recap from flight-tracking service FlightAware. It landed at 2:44 a.m. local time and arrived to the gate at 3:14 a.m. local time, FlightAware’s data showed.

Flight 146 passengers were asked to deplane, but eventually departed for Seattle on an aircraft that left Anchorage at 6:37 a.m. local time. They arrived to Seattle around 11 a.m. local time, hours later than scheduled.

FBI and airport police met the plane upon landing, though it was unclear whether the man would face charges, according to AP.

now, you're just trolling.

now, you're just trolling<<<

I actually find this fascinating.    All of this wasted energy and time; partly due to someone favoring their birthday suit over social convention.

Have you ever had a job like the ones you complain about?

Where did I complain about someone's job in this thread?

wasted energy and time

This story doesn't even come close to the narrative you've been unsuccessfully trying to frame.

Why does it have to be directly related to a so-called "narrative" you allude to?

From a "lunar perspective", doesn't it strike you as odd that this giant flying machine is being turned around partly because someone has opted to strip down to their essence?

It's kind of akin to Jefferson being "discredited" in France for not wearing a wig while on duty.

wasted energy and time<<

How is that not an observation?

I'm going to guess that his nakedness was less relevant than him locking himself in the lav, and his overall mental state (I'm going to guess edibles and/or other rugs).

I'm wrong. You're right. I won't waste anymore time or energy on your threads of observations.

Exact words = "partly"

Can't one poke fun at themselves?  A day without a good laugh is a day wasted.

Sounds like several folks we know. Any Zoners want to confess here?

He was probably just looking for geraniums to pee on.

Some might call that "social convention" civilized behavior.

at least you are self aware of these threads.

best thing about these threads is we get to see Ned like clockwork.

Here's a good one for you.

A college student claims she was forced to flush her emotional support hamster down an airport toilet after getting bad info from a ticket agent — but Spirit Airlines claims no employee ever said to give the rodent its final boarding call.

Haven't been here much, somebody seems to have a problem with airlines, right?

Is this the same person every time?

Do we know what's causing this obsession?

I may have said this before, but I really like playing with flightradar24.com where you can see all (OK, lots of, not all) flights in the world, in real time on a google map. Each plane is clickable and shows (part or all of) info like where it's coming from, altitude, speed, how much of its planned flight has elapsed, you can almost always see the path each plane has traveled so far, a photo of that type of plane.... etc.

If you look at the whole US at once, it's just about totally covered with planes, like a yellow rug. Fun website. I live under a flight path, but I bet most people live under a flight path, if they are in the US.

Of course some people are going to want to be upset about airlines. I have ocd myself, so I totally understand how it is.

if FOM's problems were only that simple

Zippy, is that you?

If life were simple, wouldn't it be boring?
