Dublin

Forums:

Has anyone here been to Dublin recently?  We had a lucky twist of fate and are going for a few days next week, we were invited to a wedding!

Are there any Zoner recommendations, places to eat, music, art, history?   All the wedding guests are getting tickets to visit the Guinness brewery, we have that covered.  I hear the pubs in the central district frequently have live traditional music.

(We're not going to Ringaskiddy)

Was there in November.

I liked it, ok....but really it was just another city.

We did the Trinity College/ Book of Kells. It was OK....

did not do the tours/breweries/distillaries.

Was only there 1 full day though.

walked around a bunch.

I liked the Double decker bus tours. Drops off & picks up at Guinness Brewery & Jameson's Distillery.

Brazen Head claims to be the oldest Pub in the world, clocking in at 500 years...

Land in Dublin, and immediately drive to the west coast.

ireland is to much like USA for a European country, so I avoid the big cities

go west!

Guinness Brewery is ok but if you really want a 'real' Guinness get out of Dublin and hit the first country / local pub you find and the tap wont be nearly a mile from the kegs and the taste will be even better - Temple Bar is fine for a walkabout for some live music and locals/tourists but its touristic...head east along the River Liffy towards the Samuel Beckett Bridge, on the south side is The Ferryman bar and a few blocks from there is the Marker Hotel, great Rooftop bar at the Marker...There's a shit ton of stuff to do in Dublin - https://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/16/travel/things-to-do-in-36-hours-in-du...

Whatever you do, dont order a Black and Tan in any proper Irish bar, especially if the bartender is on the older side unless you want to get a ration of shit...

Enjoy

Thanks for the suggestions.  MikePA, that link is going with us, good info there.

We are leaving Thursday.

Keep off the moors. Stick to the roads.

We had a good trip although the plane flew way north to avoid a storm system in the North Atlantic.  I think we flew over Greenland.  First lesson of the day, Tacsaithe means Taxi.  Gaelic is taught in school and most folks speak both Gaelic and English.

have fun! (you're back, maybe?)

Dublin was cool and very walkable.  The people were super nice...very refreshing.

Q: What makes Ireland the riches of nations?

A: It's capitol is always Dublin.

Teeling distillery is the first whiskey distilled in Dublin in like 100 years.  Cool little tour, the poitín is great, it's Irish moonshine.

This year I am going north.  Starting in Dublin then up north along the coast into Northern Ireland then to donegal and down west to Galway.  After this trip, I will have traveled the entire coast of the Emerald Isle.

So so far my favorite towns are Dingle, Doolin, and Galway.

We’re at Jameson Distillery at the moment (free WiFi).

Greetings Zoners

>Dingle, Doolin<<

loved both of them.

I think there’s a reason why Dingle is not too far from Limerick  ;-)
