Joe Russo's Almost Dead Capital Theater Sunday 1/14

Forums:

Going to see Joe Russo's Almost Dead Capital Theater, this Sunday 1/14.

A guest pass ticket, that I'm Grateful for.

It's my first time back in Port Chester since I worked there from 1995-97. Hated the drive in the coldest, most frigid winters ever.

Sey Hey, I'm out of my comfort zone. But have some sweet herb & graciousness to share.

Gotta ask dude, why do you always have to qualify your "credentials" when talking about shows on your calendar? What am I missing here?

Go home and get your shinebox.

Right ok dude Lol you come across like you need the validation

I validate you!
I validate you!

lol.

How was it? Did you go? The weather was the worst. You're a real trooper.

It was insanely delicious music..  He had so much fun he did a secret free show the next day acoustic.   I would recommend getting in on the Buddy Merriam / Andy Falco show next month.

Here's Andy with the Stringdusters doing a Cure tune:

Just Like Heaven

Sounds fantastic, I will go the the Andy / Buddy show.  2/1, I think it is.

Glad you went as a witness. Bummed I missed it.

Thanks for the link.

I got to the Capital very early and I got to check out Joe Russo sit in with these guys at Garcia's in a very intimate setting - that I thoroughly enjoyed.

JRAD 01142018 Capitol Port Chester Garcias.jpg

Great drummer and very cool demeanor.

It was a Sunday show that absolutely ripped.   Looks like they take internet feedback very well and stayed away from as many "teases & triple segues, back into teases incomplete songs"

None of that shit. Just full throttle (with precession rock & roll) and sleek jams.

I a bit shaky, but the audio is just killer -

How many jams / teases do you think you caught on your annoying little two-inch blue light screen?

Are you being sarcastic?

Thanks to everyone at The Capitol Theatre for their loving hospitality the last 3 nights & for all of you who came to the shows or caught a stream. We had a fantastic time!

Stay tuned for Taper Tuesday tomorrow & if you're thinking about going to Palace Theatre in March, get your tix. See you guys here for the next few weeks & then War Memorial Auditorium, The Pageant, The Riviera Theatre and Orpheum Madison in Feb...

Now to sleep ...for about a week ..

Ateix. Funny I think you would have liked this show. Most of the songs had a clear start and finish. Not as much meandering.

Sorry, did know if you were busting my chops.

I'm on the JRAD Facebook group -- and a couple of people referenced Mexico in comments... does anyone know if JRAD is playing Mexico in 2018? I couldn't find anything online.

I'm more into Black music, tbh. Thanks anyway.

They played Mr. Charlie, for what it's worth.

Just sayin'

You have no idea what I'm talking about, do you

Bring it.

Note to Ateix: no one cares.

Lol Jonas, tighten up your little chocolate starfish. You don't know shit either.

Go plug in a Twiddle cd you boring fuck Lol

Bluelight, I would bring it but you would have no idea what to with it. Maybe turn up the Alex Skolnick?

Send me one and ill plug it in. Ateix the man bun poseur telling me I'm boring. That's rich.

Write an exiting book called "Black Music" Ateix.

You are a very bitter person. I almost feel bad for you.

I would definitely feel bad for anyone who would have to be in the same room as the music you listen to Bluelight, Lol

>> poseur

You love that word Jonas. Reach down below that gut and think of me and my man bun some more, you boring fuck. Lol

One of the "lol brothers"

Do we need more of this?

About as much as we need another review of a shitty white blues singer/songwriter, but those are gonna keep on coming in, so until then LOL

3.1 ^

With a typical nervous like "lol"

Handing out premature melt ratings is always a good indication of someone on the edge.

I hope this isn't another repeat of the unfortunate "John Scofield" episode. That one was painful to watch.

Whatever happened to that appearance date? Did you lock that one in with the buyer yet?

>>> I'm on the JRAD Facebook group -- and a couple of people referenced Mexico in comments... does anyone know if JRAD is playing Mexico in 2018? I couldn't find anything online.

That's just a Mexico tease

Ateix -I hope you are not a waiter or actually dealing with humans publicly on a one to one basis.

You are just not nice people.

PS- Scofield is playing 2 show in June here. Both 5 minutes from my house.  That was ugly...

>>>  "Everyone gets laid tonight, courtesy of JRAD"

Nice PCU reference

Love it? Nah. It's just too easy with you. You're a cranky little man bun poseur. It's cool, you're not. All good.

>>>>>poseur

I skateboard.

Jonas, if I had to guess how many divorces you had under that XXL-size belt of yours... I'm gonna say two. Close? More?

Went to the Sat shoe (thanx for the tix Mr Fitzman!).  3rd time I've seen them (have listened to a few streams as well).  Got same impression of the music as before:  GREAT when they're jamming, pretty good upbeat energy on the songs (sorta as if early '90's Phish/Moe were playing GD songs), but vocals are downright Cringeworthy Awful, especially Tom Hamilton.

Then there's the crowd - really reminded me of a Bobby/ DeadCo/ Ratdog vibe - rockin' out Karaoke-ing along to the obvious Weekend Warrior fare (Good Lovin', Sugaree, Rider, GDRFB, etc), but as soon as it got the least bit jammy/ jazzy/ "interesting" the entire place erupted in loud drunk babbling/ everyone headed to the bar for a booze reup.  And the line @ the bar was Epic, quite a contrast to the last shoes I saw @ the Cap (McLaughlin/Herring, King Crimson, which were Nerd/ Sausage Fests).  The line for the ladies room was also Epic, not something you see @ the Cap very often.  And the Ladies sure do LOOOVEEEE Tom Hamilton, he's a Rock Star!  I find his stage personae almost as annoying as Trey & Keller Williams.  His guitar playing relies a lot more on Technical Gimcrackery (I made up a word!) than outright Shredding technique, if anything Metzger is far better @ that aspect (which is probably why he got the call from Phil multiple times). Tom also does that annoying snake dance like Axyl Rose - eccchh!!!!!!  Hats & Scarves!!!!!!!  After the show all these ladies were lined up @ the backstage door when the bass player came out they were all like "Where's Tom?" (and he's kind of a rock star, being from Ween).

OK OK I know, I'm a Grumpy Old Man who doesn't know how to have Fun, & begrudges others when they do.  I'm as Bored w/the GD songbook (especially when the vocals are as Awful as they are w/JRAD) but that's still not as bad as Fluffernutter bands like SCI & Bisco, yup, hula hoops & glowsticks are Fun, Maaannnnn!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I shouldn't have gone on Saturday, but that was the tix offered.  I'll probably see them @ the Cap again, not the sardine can GA venues they play in Boston & NYC, but on a non-weekend night next time, & once per run.  If only because about 1/4 to 1/3 of the show contained some pretty epic jamming (Playin' in the Band, parts of Terrapin, parts of Cats Under the Stars).  But I really just can't get into YET ANOTHER badly sung version(s) of Good Lovin', GDRFB, IKYR (all in the same shoe) . . . & if I really need a reup of GD songbook I'd much rather see DSO - they can jam too but @ least the vocals are Tolerable to Good . . .

I saw a pic of Jonas wearing a tucked in Furthur t-shirt and white high tops.

There were grown adults wearing feety pajamas there. Several actually.

No bikers...
