Hydrox Cookies

Forums:

Popular among 1980's moms who didn't want to spend an extra 19 cents for a package of Oreos.

haven't seen those in ages- always preferred them over Oreos

We had to cut corners a lot growing up, but I have to thank my Mom and Dad for going the extra mile and never buying us fake Oreos.

Experienced that in the 60s

I think oreos were the fakes- Hydrox were around first

Yes, but are they really "cookies?"

From Wiki:

Hydrox is the brand name for a creme-filled chocolate sandwich cookie manufactured by Leaf Brands. It debuted in 1908, and was manufactured by Sunshine Biscuits for over ninety years.[1] The similar Oreo cookie, introduced later in 1912, was inspired by the Hydrox. However, the Oreo eventually exceeded it in popularity which resulted in the Hydrox coming to be perceived as an imitator, even though it was the original.[2] Hydrox was largely discontinued in 1999 after Sunshine was acquired by Keebler, which would later be acquired by Kellogg's. In September 2015, the product was re-introduced by Leaf Brands. Compared to Oreos, Hydrox cookies have a less-sweet filling and a crunchier cookie that gets less soggy in milk.[3]

Hydrox are best consumed after a good cry, with the shades drawn.

WoW ! my MoM use to get those sometimes , i had completely forgotten about those Cookies.

I'm pretty sure  Hydrox is short for Hydrogenated oil.  Yum!

Most Of The Big Name Cookies Are Like Cardboard Processed ! And Not Like The Old Days..........Terrible !

Never had those Hydrox cookies, but did eat some LSD infused Oreos at the 1992 national Rainbow Gathering.

May I suggest Newman 0's ?

no hydrogenated oils yes

and all profits goes to charity. heart

more wiki (regarding the name)

Name

Hydrox derived its name from the atoms that make up the water molecule (hydrogen and oxygen). In 1908, the creators of the cookie were looking for a name that would convey "purity and goodness."[2]

though tasty, Hydrox is short for the full chemical name of the cookie's main ingredient:  Hydroxy5,7-N-methylcriscola-49er-bis-crapulasad

Lol.

To me, it sounds like a new synthetic opiate, more addictive than all that came before.

I thought this was going to be a Tide pod recipe.

calling "FOM"

Crap, but better than Oreos.

Like RC.

All the kids with big families had them when I was growing up in '60's row house Phila.  Oreo's were better.
