Instructions in The GD Anthology songbook for Ship of Fools.

Did they?  I'm assuming the studio version is in Bb. The charts show piano in Bb and guitar chords for C.

Anyone know how they did it live?

Just play it in either C or Bb?

Or did Jerry & Bob tune down?

One of Keith's best studio efforts, BTW.  Purty!

Pretty sure it was in C - never saw 'em tune down for it.

That's what I think.

Of course, to us, it would have looked like a Pall Mall break.

New Doc 2018-01-11.jpgIn the Anthology book, its Bb. The guitar tunes down and then plays in C (easier chords for most players) so it's really in Bb. . It's not a beginner's piece.

most are in standard 44 tuning I believe

Sugaree was originally in "C" in Jerry's songbook

He always played live in B

^^^Um, yeah.  That's where we startedsmiley

Next issue:  The chord diagram for the F#°7 actually shows Eb°7, no?  Or is the root not the the bottom note?

Diminished 7th chords can be named by any note in the chord. It's like a 4 way inversion. The movement in this case is the F to F# thing. Or in the actual key, Eb to E nat.

It does sound better at the first fret than the fourth.

Got a request last week to play this one tomorrow. Playing it in C. No drop down tuning. As I age and my vocal range grows smaller, I've had to rearrange some songs in more comfortable keys. This one actually works better for me now in C than in Bb.
