Cruise Contol - Help Needed

Forums:

Driving the kiddo back to college next week (CO>KY). First time taking her townie car (2000 VW Beetle) on a road trip. Unfortunately, the car has no cruise control.

Looking to deep well of Deadhead knowledge for tried/true tricks to keep that pedal down without using my foot (in order to preserve my fragile back).

Please help...thx.

Let her drive? I guess that could be too far for her to be the primary driver, but maybe not?

(Sorry about your back)

use the other foot.

Yes and YES!

I do plan on having her drive a plenty.

I remember using the left-foot trick back in the day, and will employ this method somewhere near Colby, Kansas.

Just a suggestion.

You'll need a toothpick for the full effect.

Always loved Jerry's solo at the end of this.

Best solution is just get cruise control installed.

< $100 in parts and DIY or have it installed professionally.

you're welcome, kiddo

Why are you taking the Beetle? If it's so she will have the car there, and you will be flying back, just make her drive all the way. In fact, why are you going at all? If you're dropping her off, take your car (with cc, I assume) and forget the VW.

I'm sure there's a good reason why this won't work. smiley

She's our only child. If we had 3+ kids I'd send her solo and hope for the best.

Yes, this will be her townie at college. Doubt it will ever drive west of Louisville ever again. The main reason I'm going with her is due to the unknown reliability of the vehicle.

ROAD TRIP

Can't argue with that last.

Update: made it to KY without incident. At hotel bar with my friend Bourbon awaiting morning flight back to CO.

VW ran like a champ and drive seemed shorter than expected. Over and out.
