Heard of Holly Bowling?

Forums:

Heard her for the first time the other night on the Grateful Dead Hour playing a real nice "Crazy Fingers". I liked it.

Guess she played Warren's Christmas Jam, and she's got a few You Tube videos for viewing. https://www.youtube.com/user/mymymymymysoul/videos

She's got an album of GD covers on piano called "Better Left Unsung".  http://www.hollybowling.com/

Some 30 second samples of that album here. https://www.amazon.com/Better-Left-Unsung-Holly-Bowling/dp/B01M26LM77/re...

Never have seen her mentioned 'round these parts so thought I'd bring her up. Sorry if I missed a thread where someone talked about her. Enjoy.

Just looked at past tour dates and I guess she's played TXR.

Here's what the album contains: Help On The Way > Slipknot!, Franklin’s Tower, Cassidy, Bird Song, Wharf Rat, Unbroken Chain, Crazy Fingers,

Cryptical Envelopment > The Other One, Row Jimmy, Terrapin Station (Suite), Eyes Of The World (6/18/74 Louisville, KY), China Doll, Dark Star

See her often

Second to last show was at Mezzanine in SF solo

she played a whole set going between Phish and Dead - amazing!

she is playing one of the MSG Phish after parties this weekend in NYC

Last show I saw with her was Everyone Orchestra at TXR

friend sent me archive link- check it out!

There was a Holly Bowling thread on here that you can check out by searching :)

Saw HB play this Summer at Asbury Park  "Jams On The Sand"  free concert series.  She played a solo set of GD & Phish music,  then played keys for 'Tom Hamilton's American Babies'.  Sort of like this one:

Anyway,  there was inclement weather that day,  so they had the show indoors in the Convention Hall  rather than out on the Beach.  It was out in the giant hallway / indoor Boardwalk,  not in one of the two theater venues.

She is very talented and Great Fun to see live.  I look forward to seeing her play again.

She's become almost a semi-regular at TxR, and I've been really impressed with the times I've seen her.

She's good.

I don't know who Holly Bowling is, but somehow she is copied on some emails sent back to me a few months back. Who is she?

They play her on JEMP Radio. My passengers always have something nice to say about the music when she comes on.

I believe she is a woman who was forced to take lots of piano lessons as a kid and then took LSD in high school.

Pretty spot on Hoover.

Someone should teach her agent how to use email so she doesn’t get ccd to anymore weird Zoners.

yes, I’ve heard of her playing piano also

Guess we can put Slickrock and Bluelights current interest in what Phil’s doing somewhere around 0-1.

>so she doesn’t get ccd to anymore weird Zoners.

haha

Saw her at TXR with phil for the E72 shows and she was damn good. Lady im sorta hanging with wants to go to the 30th pre Phish show Holly is doing. Leavin for Phish at 5am tomarrow from the Msd River Valley -8 right now not looking forward to the trip. Cant wait to see Marcus King Band after Phish tomarrow!!!

Thanks Ro, for the gentle reminder. I didn't think to search. Just did a quick post last night before hitting the sack. I see some threads now from Uncle Sam and the amazing Patches from last December and January. Late to the party again. But I did get here!

Best to you Ro, and others, for a great year ahead.

Found her in that Terrapin Mashup video.

She seems to be better as a soloist as opposed to a ensemble player but also hasn't been around that long. Got famous by covering the Tahoe Tweezer and posted it on youtube. She played this summer at Tumbledown with Phil, twittleler, and midnight north if I'm not mistaken (but I usually am).

she has a great niche that tons of people in this space eat right up.

good for her.

>>>Someone should teach her agent how to use email so she doesn’t get ccd to anymore weird Zoners.

I could see why that would seem weird. Oh well.

She had two CD's for sale at the merch table when I saw her.  One GD covers, the other Phish.  I guess she's got a seperate vinyly out with 'The Wedge" and "Twist".

"Mystery Jams" are fun too.

muzak for burnouts

Roshambo, who’s got my extra for CRB this weekend?

IMO she is perfectly fine in ensemble playing. If there was a weak link in that band (included Phil and some of the usual suspects) it wasn't her.

Much love, SlickRockheart

I’m missing  her NYC show, but see her whenever I can.

all my guy friends have a major crush on her :)

Seriously, Timpane?! Or are you being sarcastic, lol

I don’t enjoy the band much

but can ask around for you

what night do you need ticket for?

Been listening to that^ / up to Bridsong right now.

Good call Hoover. She's a real talent.

My wife and I listened this morning to the 4/9/20 set from Holly's living room. We both enjoyed, and thought it was spectacular. Holly is very talented with X-factor too. What a full sound, and interesting interpretations of those songs. I agree with Hoover's comment about piano lessons and LSD. Good shit!

Good time for the uninitiated to catch up with Ghost Light on the archive.

I think her big break was when she played that "epic" 24 minute Tweezer note for note.
