Marin County Civic Center

Forums:

Few levels up from the Capitol Building in Trenton, NJ, I’d say.

OK.

Nice spot is all. Frank Loyd Wright crushed that shit. The little fountain over by the food court was a nice touch.

I love the Civic Center, I have been staying in that area a lot, always walk the Park that is right across from the Embassy Suite, great place for bird watching, across the street is the Library with great views, lots of old pictures of the building of the Center with history of Frank Loyd Wright. I never been to a concert there but want to. The second week of Jan there will be a guitar expo that looks pretty cool. They do have the Marin County Fair there also that looks fun, this year it was the Summer of Love theme. Plus it is only a exit away from TXR and Sol Food, my new hang outs. You can always travel North Pablo Ave to get to TXR the back way stopping at a few parks to see the ocean. I will be down there for a few days the end of Jan. my home away from home.

^Didn’ realize they did concerts there. Another added bonus. Quite the spread. Very cool,

San Pedro?

My friend was at the Grateful Dead's 10/31/83 -final performance of St. Stephen at the MCCC and said it was an amazing show.

Tickets sold out in seconds as the band had just smoked on the Fall '83 east coast tour and this homecoming was highly anticipated.

I was at 10/30 and 10/31/83. Magical times. 10/30 was good, 10/31 was really really good.

I was also at the shows there in Spring 1984. I had fun.

I can imagine that FLW+ Dead+ Floating= Great times

I stand corrected Surfdead. It really is a nice drive, makes you feel like you are getting away from it all, lots of mountain bikes all over the place great views of the hills and the ocean, just beautiful .

Here is the schedule for the Marin Civic Center. I might try to make the Willie K show if all goes right. I will be at Johnny D's birthday party again this year.

Saw a bunch of showork there 88 through 90,noteworthy was Santana, and Planet Drums, Jerry was sitting right behind us..at the time if you went to the box office, you got the first five rows

It’s featured in the movie Gattaca...

Saw all the GD shows there.

Loved that place.

Anyone remember when they put the craft paper up on the walls for the Deadheads to write messages to the band?

I wonder what happened to those?

I remember craft paper on the walls in '83 or '84, I thought at BCT, and also for messages to Parrish at the New Year's shows at the SF Civic. I don't remember it happening in Marin. I could have forgotten...

The Touch of Gray video shoot was done there in '87 as well.

The Touch of Grey video was done at Laguna Seca.

In The Dark was recorded there.

They also shot the So Far video there in '85.

What about the Rhythm Devils (Bill & Mickey, Flora Purim & Airto, Michael Hinton and [maybe] others) -- 1981 or 1982? Two nights. As far as I remember it's the only shows I attended there.

Nice place.

Laguna Seca was the place

walked the roof many times late at night

never the best idea, but amazing nonetheless.

Wow. All cool information here. Had no idea In The Dark was recorded there or that they even had a recording facility.

The were marionette skeleton sequences were shot indoors at the MCCC for the Touch of Grey video.

>>>Had no idea In The Dark was recorded there or that they even had a recording facility<<<

I don't think there is a recording facility there. For the album the band set up facing each other on the stage of the theater, trying to create more of a live feel.

There's a video of some of that somewhere.

In the dark basic tracks were recorded as a live band set up at Marin. They were set up as they were in concert but no audience. The In The Dark title referred to Mickey asking them to kill the lights and to play 'in the dark'. As they had done with other live recording a truck was parked outside that captured all the audio. The Touch of Grey video was shot a Leguna Seca. I wasn't there but remember the hub but from the tour heads that were.

Worked there in the 90s for about 9 mos, met a friend who still works there and lives in the neighborhood behind it. Great building, for sure.
