Dickey is back

Forums:

“Everywhere I go fans keep saying they want me to get out and play again,” Betts told Tantangelo. “I think the time is right.” Here’s what we know about what lies ahead: Dickey will lead a to-be-determined lineup of The Dickey Betts Band featuring his son Duane Betts. “Dickey is talking to some of the guys he has played with,” Spero said. “We should know in a couple of weeks who will comprise the band.” Setlist wise, expect Allman Brothers Band staples. However, Betts won’t stick strictly to the songs he wrote such as “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed,” “Blue Sky” and “Jessica.” Dickey added, “I think the fans deserve to hear a few of Gregg’s song as well, so I’m pulling out some classics.”

Great news as I'm sure he'll pop up the street here in St. Petersburg.

Geez- his kid looks like a clone...

Meh

Maybe if he played with Derek Trucks but Dickey doesn't share music well anymore.

>> Dickey doesn't share music well anymore.

So? And what does that even mean?

"Wasn't there a time when Coltrane thought he must have played everything?"

"You would say that, you're not Coltrane! He was a very greedy man. Bird was, too. When I was 17,18, my allowance was like $40 a week. My wife would cook something, a little cornbread, and I'd say to Bird, Come on downstairs and eat. And he would eat all of the cornbread! He would sit down and leave a little piece like that and then leave! Did that a couple of times and I said, Fuck Bird! After a couple of times I didn't leave him anything to gobble up.

"Like when Bird died. They asked me to say something about Bird. I said, Man, if I said something about Bird, you wouldn't believe it. Don't ask me that! He was a big hog. A pig. No such thing as no with him. And Trane. And Sonny. Only three people I knew like that. And Dizzy, when he was young. I suppose geniuses are like that.

"Trane would find a note he liked and run all kinds of chords on it. But he was a big hog. I seen him with a whole ounce of dope once, the dope was spilling over and he wouldn't give it to nobody. So much that it was running all over everything! Guys would ask him for some, he'd say no."

- Miles Davis (NME, 1985)

Each guy takes a turn big band style.

Sounds like the reason jazz isn't popular anymore.

Tax man cometh?

Dickie Betts ~ Dan Toler.jpeg

Dickey Betts, when he is on, is one of the most inspiring guitarists who ever lived. He may be hit or miss, depending on inebriation levels, but he is always worth the chance.

Agreed DJ. A good night of Dickey is leagues above most of our great nights.

Is that that shitbag James Dolan on stage with Betts?

What a rich, entitled, fat necked shitbag that guy is.

If it's not I feel bad for whoever is his doppleganger.

No that's Dan Toler (RIP - 2013)

Dan was in the Allman Brothers & played with Dickey, all off which happened right after the recording of Brothers & Sisters onward.

I'm pretty sue Dolan only plays while wearing a douche-y hat.  It's kinda his costume.

I'm very glad for Dickey that that isn't Dolan.

And condolences to Dan Toler, for his death and his resemblance to a world class shitbag in that photo.

I would LOVE to see Dickey, and hope he brings his band & tour somewhere near the NW.

A nice Zoner 'gifted' me a pair of tixx for DB a bit prior to the brief retirement,  at the Ocean City Music Pier here in Jerseyland.  The venue is really Pier-ish with the front legs in the actual Surf.  An engineering Miracle that it has not yet washed away.  It wasn't very big,  just right.

But yeah,  DB blazed away on the Gold-Top Les Paul and rocked the joint.  I thought,  "He's on a roll,  I should go again soon..."  and then there just were not any more DB shows.

Another time he sat in with moe. in Vegas at a post-Phish latenight appearance,  along with a Dude from the band 'Tesla'  who(m) happens to be a Son-In-Law. One of my top Three obscure JamBand guest appearances which bore the Grandchildren.

Well, he's not back yet until he plays some shows.
