Anybody go skiing / snowboarding yet this season?

Just went up for the first time this season in Telluride. Had a great time doing 5 cruisers on man made snow - it was nice to just get back up on the mountain. However, the snow situation is extremely grim. There's currently only one lift and a handful of intermediate / beginner runs open. At one point I had to take a leak, but when I peaked over to the side of the run there was absolutely no snow in the trees! The ski area is reporting something like a 15" base (measured near the top), but I have a difficult time believing that I suspect they're being "generous". Could be the slowest start to the season I've seen since I've been living in the area (23 years).
Drove to Denver last weekend and noticed Vail has a notch or two more snow than we do, but they're still hurting too. How are the current conditions where you're at?

I haven't gotten out on snow
I haven't gotten out on snow yet this season but it looks like the East is doing quite well. Many areas in VT have gotten around 40 inches this week. It cracked me up that the SKI mag snow reporter did a video today from New Jersey where she was packing boxes of snow to send to resorts in CO with a note to pass it on to UT when they were done with it. It's looking like it's going to be a Jay Cloud type of year and that doesn't make me frown. Except for getting there. lol

Didn't realize the East had
Didn't realize the East had gotten that much snow! I suspect a lot of easterners will also stick close to home if the trend continues in Colorado and perhaps Utah (haven't really followed along, so not sure how they're doing?). Not sure I've heard of "Jay Cloud", do you have a pass at Jay Peak?
The forecast doesn't show any snow for the next week ... so we could go into the New Year without any real terrain open other than the strips of man made. January is also typically one of the driest months too ... so who knows, it could take a long time before real runs can be opened.

You can probably figure that one out from my screen name. :-)
I do not have a pass at any area mainly because I am not close enough to make it worth it, as well as not being able to travel like I used to when I was in the biz. The Jay Cloud is something that happens around Jay, VT that is a bit of a micro environment. The convergence of steering winds, cold temps and moisture tracts can leave Jay with as much or more snow as most of the Western resorts. It is also still a bit on the wild side and a resort throwback. Think Ski Cooper with better lifts and amenities, but not a lot more amenities. It does have a hotel that has been upgraded recently. Jay is also a bit rugged with lots and lots of hardwood glades that rock.

It's amazing when the east has the best snow because that rarely happens.

Upgraded? Jay has been much upgraded, Tony. When is the last time you were there? They now have multiple hotels (two brand new hotels - not upgraded hotels) on the mountain, hundreds of condos, an indoor waterpark, etc.

It's been at least 5 years, 6. Maybe more. Although they needed the amenities to be in the game, I'm sort of saddened that it has lost some of it's old school charm. And yes, it is rare that the East has better snow ... except for Jay. It that place wasn't so damn far away.

I feel the same way about Stowe - BUT - when you are on the mountain skiing or riding at either Jay or Stowe - THAT is still the same.

In case you weren't joking about it, and at risk of giving him any more "material", it was a question to "hey bro" (still wondering, do you bro?)
So, there's not a collaborative option available that would make it worth while to get a pass somewhere primarily that also allows you to go elsewhere?
I've never ridden Ski Cooper, but from what's been described it sounds like Jay Peak is kind of like the "Wolf Creek of VT" re: both disproportionately more snow for the region and being "rough around the edges". Being almost 49, the reality of having a limited shelf life at living at close to 10k' has started to set in ... if forced to move, I'd probably try and find a place like this to live nearby or within reasonable driving distance. However, would try my best to find a spot that's out of the reach of Big Ski Industry, but not sure if that's possible ... with places like Wilmot getting bought out by Vail.
And just for ned: Marcia doesn't deserve any credit, Molly was hot to begin with!

It's a matter of time. My working schedule is very last minute often, so I can't be away when I have to shoot a show. There are some collaborative passes around but I like variety. Because of that, I would like to get another USAA Gold Pass. Can't afford it these days but maybe again in the future.

My boys usually start around
My boys usually start around Halloween up here in Maine. I think opening day was a week later this year.
My 16y.o. has been up every weekend, usually both days. It's a 2hr drive each way, he's hardcore.
