Why are conservatives so gullible?

Forums:

I don't think the right or the left have any monopoly on scumbags, but it sure seems like the right falls for obvious confidence men way more than the left.

The central accusation in the KCIR story was that Johnson (R), 57, had molested a then-17 year old friend of his daughter toward the end of an alcohol fueled party. These parties, drenched in alcohol, with half-dressed young women in abundance were apparently regular fare at the Church of which Johnson was the founder and pastor. He called himself the Pope of the church...

Johnson’s now 21 year old victim – the full story makes it unimaginable there aren’t many more – called Johnson to account personally at the time in a series of Facebook private messages. She went to the police, who seem to have either botched or just buried the case.

Just before taking his own life this evening, Johnson wrote a rambling and palpably desperate Facebook post.

You provided no data set to support your claim. One story is just a single data point, and does little to support your assertion.

Why is ender so not funny?

Ned,

That's how God makes engineers. Kinda like how house painters are drunks.

LOL...attaboy :)

I said seems so wasn't stating it as fact, and also didn't know citations were a requirement to post here, but that said I can google and I'm bored at work so here you go

But, the gullibility of many on the right seems to have deeper roots even than this. That may be because at the most basic level, conservatives and liberals seem to hold different beliefs about what constitutes “truth.” Finding facts and pursuing evidence and trusting science is part of liberal ideology itself. For many conservatives, faith and intuition and trust in revealed truth appear as equally valid sources of truth.

Electricians always have the best smoke too, Ender.

God? I guess we should bring up those evangelical pastors and the scores of right wing hypocrites that are duped for millions of dollars? Especially the ones that have gone to jail.

"but it sure seems like the right falls for obvious confidence men way more than the left. "

And it sure seems like the vast majority of people being accused of sexual harassment are members in good standing of the progressive left.

>seems like the vast majority of people being accused of sexual harassment are members in good standing of the progressive left.<

um, see the catholic church, or THE CHURCHES in general...

Does this ring a bell? ^^^^^^

Dad: Yeah, yeah.. sure. I hope your friend Roy gets here soon, because we're gonna miss the beginning.

Mom: What have you got against Roy?

Dad: I don't know.. Any 45-year-old bachelor who has nothing to do but babysit, I just think it's kind of weird, that's all.

Mom: Well, anyway, the kids adore him!  Hi, Roy! Come on in.

Uncle Roy: Hi, folks!

Mom: Oh, I really appreciate you coming over at the last minute!

Uncle Roy: Oh.. it's my pleasure! I love babysitting!

Mom: The kids are ready for bed, but I told them they could stay up another five minutes to say hello to their Uncle Roy.. [ calling up the stairs ] Kids! Guess who's here!

Dad:  I'm gonna go warm up the wagon..

 "Uncle Roy! Uncle Roy!"

Mom: Tracy, Terry! Five minutes, and then you go to bed! Don't bother Uncle Roy! Goodbye, kids. Goodbye, Roy.

Uncle Roy: Goodbye! Don't hurry back, we'll be jut fine.

Tracy: Uncle Roy, what did you bring us?

Uncle Roy: Oh, Uncle Roy's got a surprise for you.

Terry: What is it? We want it now!

Tracy: Yeah!

Uncle Roy: Well, it's a buried treasure.

Tracy: Is it buried in the lawn?

Uncle Roy: Nooo.. it's buried on Uncle Roy.

PRIESTS COMMIT NO MORE ABUSE THAN OTHER MALES

The Catholic sex-abuse stories emerging every day suggest that Catholics have a much bigger problem with child molestation than other denominations and the general population. Many point to peculiarities of the Catholic Church (its celibacy rules for priests, its insular hierarchy, its exclusion of women) to infer that there's something particularly pernicious about Catholic clerics that predisposes them to these horrific acts. It's no wonder that, back in 2002—when the last Catholic sex-abuse scandal was making headlines—a Wall Street Journal-NBC News poll found that 64 percent of those queried thought Catholic priests "frequently'' abused children.

Yet experts say there's simply no data to support the claim at all. No formal comparative study has ever broken down child sexual abuse by denomination, and only the Catholic Church has released detailed data about its own. But based on the surveys and studies conducted by different denominations over the past 30 years, experts who study child abuse say they see little reason to conclude that sexual abuse is mostly a Catholic issue. "We don't see the Catholic Church as a hotbed of this or a place that has a bigger problem than anyone else," said Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. "I can tell you without hesitation that we have seen cases in many religious settings, from traveling evangelists to mainstream ministers to rabbis and others."

Since the mid-1980s, insurance companies have offered sexual misconduct coverage as a rider on liability insurance, and their own studies indicate that Catholic churches are not higher risk than other congregations. Insurance companies that cover all denominations, such as Guide One Center for Risk Management, which has more than 40,000 church clients, does not charge Catholic churches higher premiums. "We don't see vast difference in the incidence rate between one denomination and another," says Sarah Buckley, assistant vice president of corporate communications. "It's pretty even across the denominations." It's been that way for decades.

Seems to me, republicans are driven by self preservation, no matter how it affects others, the environment, or the general good. Preserve profits, family, and 1950's amerika at all costs no matter the science or evolution of society. They will lie, deny, and fuck you. Heartless.

Democrates are certainly concerned with self preservation but can't deny fairness and reason and take this into serious consideration in their views and support, some more than others. We have a heart. Sorry no footnotes just my thought.

>> Democrates are certainly concerned with self preservation but can't deny fairness and reason and take this into serious consideration in their views and support, some more than others. We have a heart.

Democrats are certainly more likely to vote to spend the collective's money on charity. They are less likely to give their own money to charity or volunteer their time.

Let's destroy the social safty net and rely on charitable contributions. That'll work. Oh wait, why is my asshole bleeding and l'm starving and sick. I agree, Dems don't have all the answers but is it right to legislate inevitable suffering for the benefit of a few and hope their good fortune trickles down, a policy that has never worked.

I've said it before, we need republicans outside the ER's telling the unfortunate to get out and go fuck yourselves. The people with heart inside won't and lawfully can't do it. Your charities can continue to help you sleep at nite. Go profit!

maybe because republicans have more $ and more free time?

dude loves his charts and graphs.

Charitable giving includes money people give to these folks. Kind of full circle to my original post

I see stupid people everywhere,  especially when they affiliate themselves with political ideologies.

Dumbest bunch of mouth-breathers would be Churchers with political leanings and/or Silver-Spoon Socialist Unbelievers with political leanings.

Wannabe Communists,  ask yourself  (I'm suggesting you can get to that plateau of self-introspection)  "How great did that Commy shit work out for USSR,  for East Germany,  for Venezuela,  for Myanmar ??

Myanmar used to be "Burma"  but technically,  no one was allowed to trade with them for a long time.  Smart corporations figured out that there was Mineral wealth there and lifted some sanctions.  Go look it all up,  figure it out.

Oh,  never mind. Watch TV and they will tell you what to think.

Chromosome count here might be revealing.

Cognitive function test is another I'd run.

Gotta leave room for "they just see it differently" though... just gotta :/
