I was going to bump this for the blast from the past "Chester" reference. I only read that magazine for cartoons, but then I googled it and this came up on the wiki page about the cartoon.
In 1984, Tinsley was accused of molesting his 13-year-old daughter, Allison, over a period of five years. He was convicted and served 23 months of a six-year prison sentence[3] before his conviction was overturned[4] on the grounds that his conviction violated the First Amendment because it was based, in part, on his comic strip. During his incarceration, he continued dispatching new strips to Hustler from his cell to be edited by Edward Kuhnel.
WTF is that true? If so he may have a bright future in politics.
Been interesting watching the strategies of the two sides on this one... sexual scandals vs out of staters slandering our hometown boy (cheer led by out of staters like Steve Bannon)
Both are perfect for motivating the respective bases, raising $, and getting folks out to vote.
If Moore wins then the media wins, since they'll be able to continue the narrative (vs the other guy, what's his name again?)
Typical media driven sensationalism, or is that bi-sensationalism, depending on your channel...
I think they should have exposed Moore for being unconstitutional, since that's an important theme within the conservative camp. He doesn't believe in the separation of church and state (etc), and has been kicked off the Alabama Supreme Court (oxymoron?) twice (as i'm sure you all know well) for not following the law. That tactic had a better chance of splitting up the conservative base (bat shit crazies, I need to be richers, and actually some sane people like veterans and land use folks, farmers / timber / miners / etc)... but instead, the sexual axe has been falling, with interesting precision, as there are so many more pervs in Congress that haven't been discussed.... then again, in the private world of big biz, it's easy to destroy accusers with there being absolutely no consequences... hell, in big biz, you can destroy anyone or anything... just ask the Donald....
I would be happily surprised if Jones wins. The fact that this so stubborn electorate - and stubborn is the operative word and the outsider meddler angle plays very well to that dynamic - will have forced a reasonably close election is still a Trump referendum.
Thom, you're reaching and deflecting. And, I'm going to guess that you've never been molested or sexually assaulted. Those women are carrying the memories of Moore's touches deeply and forever. No getting around it. Let me suggest that you think about how you'd feel if it had been someone you know. You can't lessen it by bringing up anyone else's tragedy.
Great that Moore lost, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. This special election is only for two years. Can Jones beat a Rep. who isn't Roy Moore in two years?
Probably not but the special election tonight was about far more than just rep vs dem and, like much of the trump presidency, stopped being about run of the mill partisan politics long ago.
This election was an anomaly, it was not a referendum on Trump. All it showed was that hundreds of thousands of Republicans in Alabama (650,000) prefer an accused child molester over a democrat.
Maybe Jones can use his platform to show poor and middle class southerners that Democrats are not the bogeyman and might represent their best interest.

And Democrats don't have much to crow about in this area. Yuo might want to look up the history of Gerry Studds.
"Studds defended his sexual involvement as a "consensual relationship with a young adult.""
That "young adult" was a 17 year old Congressional page. Studds was censured in 1983 but continued to serve until 1997.
And yes, I know about Dan Crane. But at least his constituents refused to re-elect him.

Even after all sorts of
Even after all sorts of reported voter suppression...
29% of The black vote smashed those attempts.
Same percentage that came out for Obama.
Fuckin' awesome!!
On another note.
Our 3 Republican Reps.
- Thom Tillis
- Mark Meadows
- Richard Burr

If you don't think it's that important or have the time.
We do this for YOU also.
