I'm sure it's fueling it in an indirect manner, but I suspect Colorado has always been on their radar at some point along the way after expanding out of California.
With Colorado growing (perhaps in part due to legalization), their marketing team may have figured the sooner the better in so far as establishing a foothold re: "brand loyalty" ... in light of the fact that their competitors have been at it for a while now in Colorado.
I grew up near the In-N-Out on Foothill BLVD in Pasadena California back in the 60s/70's (Worked at Brothertons Farmhouse Dinners around the corner in the 70's). But I haven't been to Pasadena in over 30 years. Fortunately, In-N-Out came to Oregon a year or so ago (Methford), and low and behold, I happened to go through Grants Pass on the day of the Grant Opening of the 2nd Oregon joint. And I'll say this, even though it had been decades, I'd put a double double up against any fast food burger for price and quality... at $3.75, still a great bang for the buck! Having said that, fast food sucks, and I love tavern / bar food anyway, but still, to be at the Grand Opening, Woo Hoo!!! (was only a 20 minute wait)
Now I share that grand opening experience with my fellow zoners, exquisitely captured for your enjoyment
Is this the Foothill Blvd location below? I was just in Pasadena for work and really wanted to go back to this one, but opted to "hold out" until I drove back and stopped at Thousand Palms ln-N-Out.
They had signs on the interstate, partial road closures, rerouting of traffic, folks a block away explaining how it was all going to go down, and they took your order personally in the parking lot while they had multiple lanes of cars in the parking lot, organized by time of arrival, that were routed into the official drive through... was quite impressive. The only reason people didn't revolt was the inflatable cheeto with an orange ferret on it's head... (it's survivalist country down there, State of Jefferson, etc)
That's my only issue with the place. Every one of them in my area are always SUPER busy.
I don't want to have to sit in my car for 20 minutes for a nice, affordable burger and fries.
I'm more of a flame broiled burger man myself anyway, so if it's going to take upwards of a half-hour to get it I'll pay a little more and go to different places.
That looks vaguely like the Foothill In-n-out... I'm use to seeing it from the other direction, that's looking at the exit if it's the same one... been over 30 years too, but always had a line, and the food was always greasalicious!
Usually their lines go real fast, but that's a dated memory... I went back a week later and it was much faster, but they were still treating it like the grand opening
Apparently, it's the oldest operating In-N-Out and was built in 1955 & some of the info online just jarred my memory from recent trip about it being on historic "route 66". The one time I ate there I didn't go through drive through, but sat at a picnic table behind the building. There's something about that location and the way it's laid out ... it's far from "standard". I'm now kind of regretting not even driving by it.
That's my only issue with the place. Every one of them in my area are always SUPER busy.<<<
I've always wondered if they've placed too much emphasis on their apparent marketing model of being "exclusive to the west coast" or some other nod to a family promise ... it'd be like printing money to setup locations elsewhere. I'm always amazed at how crowded it is at the oddest hours, like 3:30 or 4pm ... I'm always like "don't you people abide by regular mealtime hours?!?". Likewise, I'll often show up when the doors open at 10:30am, and again, I'm blown away by how many people are there.
The Tropicana location in Vegas has an adjacent "shop" where you can purchase their whole line of "merch" ... and asked the person working there if they throttle the walk up order in favor of drive through & he admitted they do! Nonetheless, on road rips my normal routine is to always park and get take out ... and eat in the car.
I know its an institution of sorts and I Do not want to ruffle any feathers here but gots to be straight up. Here is a copy of my review from a few years back.
In-N-Out Burger is OUT!!
Am a huge burger fanatic. We do not have In-N-Out back East but have heard rave reviews from burger fanatics out West. My 3 boys aged 28,19 and 14 also love there burgers. Me and my 19 year old had the double cheeseburger and fries last year and although it was pretty good I was expecting so much more. Thought 5 guys and many more were better. I did not write a review as I figured it was an off night. Am back here on the West coast on vacation with the whole family and my oldest son was so excited to try the burgers as he also had heard good things. We all had the animal double and animal fries. To make a long story very short all of my boys and my wife were very disappointed. The burgers were only OK and the fries were down right bad. In-N-Out Burger is really OUT!
^i didnt know that when i went, that would have def helped with the shitty soggy fries i received.
are there options for the burger? mine tasted like cardboard.
the fried chicken sandwich at shake shack is very well made. i miss that shit, vermont doesn't have any of that good greasy greasy. Burlington vt has two 5 guys tho, super strange.
the fries are not good because they dont double fry them. a great french fry gets fried once at a low temp, then rested, then fried again at a high temp. if you need fries and in-n-out, get animal style fries, but still, they are not as good as a nice, crisp double fried fry.
the burger is great because of the composition of the sandwich as a whole, not because of a high quality beef patty. the beef is better than standard fast food joints like mcdonalds, wendys, etc, but thats about it. the combo of the mustard grilled patties, sweet grilled onions, tangy pickles, melty cheese and their spread on an animal style double double is an unforgettable combo. if you are customizing your burger to the point where it is no longer an "animal style double double" with pickles, grilled onion, american cheese, "spread", lettuce, tomato and 2 patties, id suggest trying the burger with them, as it is supposed to be served, or just going to another burger spot if you really dont want to eat the burger as it comes with all ingredients present. basically, imo, if your order is anything other than a "double double animal style, everything on it", you have no room to complain about in n out. although lots of folks enjoy all kinds of different burgers from in n out, im not saying other orders are bad. but rather a "double double animal style everything on it" is the platonic ideal of the fast food hamburger that has inspired the fervent fandom for in n out. if you have never eaten that sandwich, you have never truly had in n out burger.
in n out is not really meant to be compared to other, more expensive and higher quality "fast casual" burger joints, the comparison is to similarly priced burgers like mcdonalds and other traditional fast food.
no, its not the greatest burger ever. but it is the greatest traditional fast food burger ever. five guys and stuff like that is not traditional fast food.
they will make you a grilled cheese but the griddle is covered in cow juice and the onions are cooked in cow juice. but if you ask they will say, yes, they have grilled cheese as a vegetarian option, what the fail to mention are that the grilled onions are loaded with cow fat.
and i know other folks who like the fries but you guys are outliers, slack. most people are not big fans of the fries. they do not have a distinct crispy, oily outside and fluffy inside that comes from a double fried french fry, which is how almost all other burger places make fries. even the places that use frozen fries, those frozen fries have already been fried once prior to freezing, and on top of that the freezing process will create ice crystals that shatter the cell walls of the potato, making the inside even fluffier. i prefer mcdonalds fries, or almost every other fry out there, to in n out.
I can't speak to the specific technical details of In-N-Out fries with the eloquence that Daylight can; but I will say vegetarianism is a profoundly unhealthy lifestyle that leads to physical weakness, histrionics, fainting spells, and communism.
Well, I dreamed I saw the silver
Space ships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun,
There were children crying
And colors flying
All around the chosen ones.
All in a dream, all in a dream
The loading had begun.
They were flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home in the sun.
Flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home.
Thanks for the photos of the original Pasadena In-n-Out FaceOnMars, that brings back a lot of memories! <<<
You can find more if you Google it, but mentioned it to a friend from MN who visits his inlaws in California every year & is also a bit of fanatic & he relayed the following link that contains a replica of the original In-N-Out that's setup in Baldwin Park. It's actually pretty wild to see how it was just a drive up stand to start ... and kind of sheds light on the original marketing idea of perhaps how the name was conceived in the first place. Likewise, it's interesting to see the original vs. Pasadena location vs. the "current standard layout". Pasadena is basically the original on steroids and the current layouts are nothing like either.
they will make you a grilled cheese but the griddle is covered in cow juice and the onions are cooked in cow juice. but if you ask they will say, yes, they have grilled cheese as a vegetarian option, what the fail to mention are that the grilled onions are loaded with cow fat.<<<
I wouldn't even stop to piss in a McDonalds' bathroom for 10 years after they lied about their "fries" re: India.
Dude. I went to the grand opening in VT last year. I got the double animal, the animal fries (crispy), and the animal coke. Heavenly. Since it is right down the road from Ben and Jerry's I skipped the animal shake and went with some ice cream instead. Im still full.
I don't recall EVER initiating a "beginning"; you started without "call" & have been very persistent ever since. It's interesting to contemplate; in particular, about what makes you tick.
If only you could apply your super powers to the forces of "good".
and by the way...I agree with the earlier comment that In N Out is comparable to Mcdonalds and Burger King and the like with similar price points and should not really be compared to five Guys and other premium burger joints as they tend to be twice the price or more.

they will make you a grilled
they will make you a grilled cheese but the griddle is covered in cow juice and the onions are cooked in cow juice. but if you ask they will say, yes, they have grilled cheese as a vegetarian option, what the fail to mention are that the grilled onions are loaded with cow fat.
and i know other folks who like the fries but you guys are outliers, slack. most people are not big fans of the fries. they do not have a distinct crispy, oily outside and fluffy inside that comes from a double fried french fry, which is how almost all other burger places make fries. even the places that use frozen fries, those frozen fries have already been fried once prior to freezing, and on top of that the freezing process will create ice crystals that shatter the cell walls of the potato, making the inside even fluffier. i prefer mcdonalds fries, or almost every other fry out there, to in n out.

I can't speak to the specific
I can't speak to the specific technical details of In-N-Out fries with the eloquence that Daylight can; but I will say vegetarianism is a profoundly unhealthy lifestyle that leads to physical weakness, histrionics, fainting spells, and communism.

I haven't received soggy fries from in n out in many years. I believe they're double dipped now.

Well, I dreamed I saw the
Well, I dreamed I saw the silver

If only you could apply your super powers to the forces of "good".

and by the way...I agree with
and by the way...I agree with the earlier comment that In N Out is comparable to Mcdonalds and Burger King and the like with similar price points and should not really be compared to five Guys and other premium burger joints as they tend to be twice the price or more.
