Nice, Ruby was awesome!  Is she still alive or did I hear she passed away, I forget?

I can recite that in my sleep

C as in Cigar; S as in Sam.

I remember going through it like a checklist before heading down to the local post office.  The clerk became familiar with the whole process as there were more than a few mailing in each tour and seemed to get a kick out of it.

a guy i know was sending his m.o. out late on april 15th and the local news had a camera crew out talking to people dropping off last minute tax returns.

They started talking to him and he cut them short by saying something like "I'm just trying to get Grateful Dead tickets".

never forget that hotline phone message on Aug 9 1995

still remember that west coast # .etched in my memory forever

>>>did I hear she passed away, I forget?

Sadly, yes. Ruby passed in March 2015.

An obituary from deadheadland:

Pretty interesting life. RIP Ruby.

1988 was the year I was too broke to go to any shows.

Did see Jerry sit in with Zero in Golden Gate Park that summer.

And remember to ..... STAAAAY in touch.

I was the crazy Jerry Garcia fan.  Ruby called me the day after Jerry passed to tell me I was being mailed a VHS Tape of Jerry's 'Smoke" video and about 20 tickets I purchased for 1995 MSG shows. When they arrived they came with an Epitaph that was written by Robert Hunter for Jerry Garcia. Buried in a book around here. Very sweet of her.

I still have memories of checking that list 3-4 times every time. Usually I wouldn't seal the envelope until in the post office lobby.  I was always so nervous it would get bumped back. Def part of my experience. Buying the whole tour booklet thing was cool too. Only did that once though. Thx for the flashback. ((Ruby))

If you read the instructions, no where does it say where to send your order. Only where to call to get the information and only where not to send it! And Ruby WAS the best!

ruby..."i cant promise ya anything" ...and from cross country, you could see the smile on her face...

So many money orders... forgot about that!

The good old fashion way to order tickets.

None of this "verified fan" crap or VIP package BS!

The one and only time I got organized & wealthy enough to mail - order,  Jerry went and had a coma,  which made the shows get cancelled sad

It was the "3rd Decadenal Field Trip"  scheduled at the Veneta Oregon Country Fair location in August 1992.  They were very nice about it and had me mail back my tickets,  which they stamped or punched and mailed back with the $$.

After that,  I was rather hesitant about mail-ordering again.  I think I waited until Phil had a new Liver before trying that.

he didn't have a coma.  if i remember correctly, it was heart or respiratory issues.

Yeah, coma was 1986.

meh, Jerry's second coma, Phil's third liver, it's all the same in the end frown

I actually had M.O.  tickets to that show as well stu.  My lady and I decided to DRIVE to the show. We heard from a friend back home about the cancellation when we were in Iowa! pre cell phone and internet so news was slow.  ARRRGH!  we just went camping in Glacier and still drove out to hang in Eugene area. We went to some prankster concert at a local lumberyard instead.

I think Jerry was "Ill" as in went to rehab.

I still have 3x5 cards from that era.

Post 'em. let's see! smiley

Lots of folks wound up at that show;  it was Conde's Lumberyard and the proprietor was extremely Cannabis-friendly to the point that workers were allowed to carry up to an Oz.  on the job (company policy).  This was before OR had any medical exemptions.  Eventually there was some issues with cops & politicians and other bad guys,  he's not in business anymore,  he wound up in Belize.  Beside the 1992 festival,  he had others,  including a couple "W.H.E.E."  or Whole Hemp Exposition Emporium.   Actually  around that time,  Lane County was also trying to take over Oregon Country Fair (site of canceled shows).  They were considered over-zealous anti-hippies.  Maybe it was just greed and attempted land-grabs.

I forgot how the press explained the 1992 cancellations,  didn't really have TV then.  Actually I was packing the car to make the drive when my Mom called and said  'Jerry Garcia has fallen ill again,  you don't have to leave right away,  come over for dinner'.

I drove out from East Coast,  just a bit later than originally planned,  ended up living in OR for a number of years.

Ha! Conde's lumberyard! Never would have remembered that.  It was hazy fun as i recall.  We stayed with friends there, mosied up and down the coast and ended living in Arcata area for a while.

Hey Tom, next time Im in the basement I'll look for the little green box that holds the cards. But Im lazy and soccer is on. smiley

^

I think they billed the show as "Life After Dead" or similar.  I didn't make it;  having heard of the cancellation I stayed back East for an extra week or so,  hung out with Mom & Dad before driving across the continent.  Hard to find much info on that one as it was early Interweb days.

But yeah,  Mr. Conde had some frontage on I-5 and posted HUGE pro-Hemp signs along his fence-line,  which upset some people.  So really,  they harassed him out of the County and Country.

If you read the Gazette-Times article lnked above,  he's active in Hempy stuff down in Belize these days.
