I agree that we should respect personal boundaries. That's number one. But let's not also forget that there are flirty sexual people out there too. Why the slide into such puritanism? Is this still backlash against the Sixties Sexual Revolution? or against porn? It's not all Conservatives, most are just as horny as anyone else. We all watch porn. Pornhub's annual review is enough to show us that this trend in mass prudery is more complicated than it seems. What is it we're really fighting for here? Does anyone know? Is it just more divide-and-conquer tactics from those in charge? So who is in charge now? Are we still fighting the one percent? What's going on here? Has politics alone really brought us here?
I have always been critical of the "believe all women" mantra. There is no gender which has a lock on truth. Men lie, women lie. Women tell the truth, men tell the truth. Each case, each accusation, each person, must be assessed on a case by case basis, as is true with everything in life. We need make sure women feel safe coming forward, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't assess people's accounts with the same critical eye we would use to assess all the other information we are provided in life. If women (or men, or kids) feel safe coming forward, then they will be able to do so more closely in time, without fear that telling the truth will lead to retaliation. However, when this occurs it is only fair that the normal questions get asked--who what when where how--to assess the veracity of the allegation. If it is safe, then true victims will be able to come forward. If we are allowed to ask questions, it will be harder for false allegations to pass. I am sorry, but there is no world that I can live in that allows someone to have their claim accepted without question simply because of their gender.
The fact that these things are reported later is a function of the culture of retaliation that exists when powerful men are accused (not sure how powerful post SNL pre senator Franken was, but in general). This is a sickness that must be addressed. Just take the hostile workplace training that half of america is already required to do.
It looks like our species has finally figured out how to stop overpopulation in the face of finite resources - make men and women afraid of each other.

My "favorite" part of the Roy Moore thing is the defense of his legal activities, a 32 year old man targeting 16 year olds. I mean, it's legal, and I get that May December romances can be real and not necessarily creepy. However, come oooooon, this isn't about an encounter that led to honest romance, it's about a grown man who goes to dance recitals and the mall seeking a variety of minor women to hit on. The most creepy to me is the Santa's Helper who he first met and got to know when she was 14 and then he tried to date her when she turned 16. Legal, but creepy as fuck. From "well he got back from the war and all the girls his own age were taken", to "he likes them young because they are pure", to "Ringo Starr sang about it", suddenly it is OK for a grown man to date a 16 year old. Can we tell this to all the states who would brand that person a sex offender for life? Are all the people standing behind him OK with their own 16 year old daughters hanging out with 32 year old men who hang around malls to hit on teens? And the kicker is that while his supporters are being told to vote Moore because tax bill, Moore is out there stumping on the fact that sodomy and same sex marriage is sin. Just fucking mind boggling.
I am not talking about people defending him on this board, just remarking on the various talking points that breitbart and Moore supporters have been iterating in interviews. "But Ringo Starr did a song so it's OK to hang out and mack on 16 year olds at the mall!" Amazing. I actually get that people may be willing to overlook someone's flaws if their interests align in other ways, but the sell on "There's nothing creepy or weird here" is hilarious. Also a little tough to stomach Moore's whole bible thumping judgementalism coming from Dave Wooderson. Can someone photoshop McConauhey's hair and mustache on Roy Moore?
