United "decided" to stop flying to New Delhi

I've been watching The Crown and just saw the episode where there was an inversion and London fog trapped the coal smoke making visibility right around 0 and closing the airport. This is a reasonable move by United if conditions are as described in the article.

Why the quotes around “decided?” By adding them, you are implying something other than a decision. We’re they forced to? Is there a nefarious back-story?

As per the article, they have temporarily suspended flights due to smog that is 10x worse than Beijing, and that the WHO considers a hazard. Do you have a problem with that?

DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT?

No, Slack, I don’t. Thanks for asking.

"Nefarious  back story" that prompted an expression of the "delicate  genius" of United's apparent self perceived "unilateral  sovereignty".

>>>>>United's apparent self perceived "unilateral  sovereignty"

I don't get it.

Should they not be allowed to decide where they fly to?.

They are trend-setters.

Not disputing their right to decide

... Just observing the larger pattern

Not quite sure that this fits into the larger pattern, though. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Trolling poor Ned on a Sunday?

>> Should they not be allowed to decide where they fly to?

Of course they should be allowed to decide where they fly to. Why should they send their employees over there if it's a health hazard? I wouldn't want to fly there and be forced to overnight in a hotel until the next day. Besides, they've only suspended flights, they haven't given up their slots or gates yet.

Besides sending employees there, I'm sure it has a lot to do with landing and such. If smog is that bad, visibility is also bad which makes it hard for landing, etc. I bet they are constantly delayed or cancelled anyhow which in turn has a play on their on time performance and profits.

I heard on CNN this morning that breathing that air for a day is equivalent to smoking 44 cigarettes. Seems like a wise choice to me.

Lol @ "poor ned" ... perhaps he's always had it in for the airlines as well, but now has too much "invested" re: his anti-face shtick

FOM, what makes your OP important to you?

Quotation Marks  -  as mysterious as magnets?

You're so poetically accurate, Bluest.

>FOM, what makes your OP important to you?

just enjoy it

I suppose its importance is similar to just about any news story in so far as it being more of a "conversation piece" vs. something that would have any major impact on my life.

The air quality in New Delhi might be seen as news of global importance.

Certainly not trying to minimize the global importance, but in reality, how many events on a global scale is one able to truly internalize as if it had an immediate impact upon oneself?
