Most rockfalls there are caused by water freezing and thawing in fissures in the rock.
its been getting below freezing at night and in the 80s during the day for the last couple of weeks.
Going up to Tuolmne and Hetch Hetchy this weekend.

Our climbing group would go to Yosemite as much as we could. Good friend and climber Bill eventually ended up working for
Yosemite resucue for about 10 years. We would ask him about stories that he could share with us.
He said one time he saw climbing el cap about 2000 feet off the ground and they had just set the anchor
and a earthquake hit the valley. This was the time when the climbing device "friends" had just come out.
Well they were in a hanging belay using friends, small wire stoppers and hexcentrics. Well the earthquake
crushed the stoppers and hexcentrics and came out of the crack, though the friends survived. It the friends did not flex in the earthquake
bill said they all would of fallen to the ground. Bill was watching the crack crush the stoppers and hexcentrics from the
earth quake and could not believe his eyes and he said he thought he was going to die. Plus he was trippin...

There was another big rockslide off El Cap yesterday. No injuries this time
