Darn Hüsky Fooled Me Again...

Forums:

That clever Animal !!

I was upstairs grazing on some rabbit food (romaine, cukes, arugula, carrots, spinach)  and the Dog appeared with his sly grin that means  "Ohh,  I'm deep into some sort of mischief,  but don't make inquiries..."

So  I went downstairs to check.  I thought maybe he got in the oven and stole the leftover organic Lamb roast.  But no,  he just raided the trash,  which had no actual Food.  I returned to discover H.I.M.  feasting upon my salad.  I suppose he enjoyed the Bleu Cheese dressing.

The olde "salad heist" Ruse,  and I fell for it.  So that is what tomorrow's Dog breakfast will be.

He's got you, Stu.

So he gobbled up the rest of the salad for breakfast !  Some greens in his diet can't hurt.  No Omions,  of course. I think he likes the dressing.  He has been known to enjoy a slice of Tomato, Carrot or Apple,  but never Grape or Avocado.

My guy eats raw beans, carrots, avocado, all fruits, and even Brussel Sprouts.

I've been supplementing his kibbles with a raw diet that came out to be about $2 lb, home-made.

Buddy shared some cantaloupe with me this morning  (;

Grapes,  raisins & (maybe) Avocados are no bueno for Doggies.

https://simplyfordogs.com/dogs-avocado-toxicity/avocado-toxicity-dogs-fa...

Some toxin called Persin (sp. ?) in Avo that is more present in stem,  pit,  leaves,  unripe fruit.

Then again,  some dog food contains Avo.

Hüsky has been getting some barely-cooked Turkey burger with the usual kibble & wet-food,  and some uncooked lamb-bone.

Shit's expensive, so he ain't getting much avo!

I grate organic chicken wings in the processor (with the grater attachment), bones and all. Process some cheap beef and organic beef heart. Process some raw veggies out of the garden with a few eggs, shell and all. Mix it all together with some yogurt and coconut oil, spread it thinly on a sheet pan and partially freeze. Cut into small hunks and put back in the freezer. He gets 1/2 cup a day of that, and eats it frozen.

I've learned all sorts of Dog nutrition stuff since I got the Hound a couple years ago.  Always had Dogs as a kid,  which thrived on Purina Dog Chow and Alpo wet-cans.  My Labrador  had a few 'fatty tumors' in Her 13-14+ years,  of which the Vet said "don't worry about that".

I wonder if it had anything to do with the 'meat by-products'  in the dog food,  or maybe it was the chlorine in the pool water where they liked to swim and drink.

Of course, we never knew back then about grapes, Omions, chocolate or raisins being dog-toxic.  They often got leftovers with Omion,  and a taste of chocolate as training treat frown

I know, my other dogs thrived on shitty food. I don't mind spoiling this one a bit. Supplementing with the raw food is actually cheaper than the kibble I give him. I'd go full time raw if 1) it wasn't a pain in the ass, and 2) if all he eats is raw food he'll never eat kibble, and sometimes that's all there is.

I Find It CREEPY When Dog Lovers Are TOO Into Their Dogs Especially When They Clutch Them Too Tight Or Dress Them Up ! SHUDDER !

And Petco Is Not About Feeding Your Dog It  Is Making A Spectacle Out Of Them = BARF !

I take the  Dog into petCo & petsMart  for his amusement,  and for the Cold A/C in Summer.  Also to reinforce leash-training and respond to verbal commands (Left, Right,  Halt,  Stay etc.)

Also,  each store will sometimes clearance out hi-grade stuff that they aren't going to carry any more,  change of packaging,  close-date or whatever.  For example I picked up 22 lbs. of 'Solid Gold' grain-free kibble for about 50 cents / lb.  Usually it's 4 bucks / lb.

He actually prefers 'Home Despot' or 'Leow's'  with the wide aisles and exotic Lumber to sniff.

Not being Insensitive as I Love dogs and Owners of Pets Its Just the Overly
