I built my system. Fresh
I built my system. Fresh install is the way to go. Get a new drive and install it. It's not that difficult. I think you need to grab windows 10 on your current system first. Then get a new drive and start fresh. That's how I did it when it first came out.

When I got it all you needed
When I got it all you needed to do was upgrade windows 7 for free. They were pushing that update back then. Not sure now. Then I did a clean install. Their sever recognizes your system.
So it was free for me because I owned windows 7. Not sure if that's still the deal. I think it is

The free upgrade to Windows
The free upgrade to Windows 10 expired one year after it was officially released. That would be July 29th 2016.
To make sure your computer can handle the upgrade, go to this page. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-upgrade
If it is, it is worth the money for the upgrade.

China>Rider ~ the link that you provided only works if the user uses assistive technologies. If they didn't it would be somewhat like parking your car in a handicapped space when you aren't handicapped.

AM, that link works for anyone, you don't have to actually use the assistive technologies components of windows. Yeah, it is like telling a white lie but it is an option if you want it free and have waited too long.
I agree with turtle, get SSD it's way faster however you really need to backup everything frequently. When they fail there is no warning.

The idea that ssd are less likely to be damaged (drive failure) is not really the case. When they first came out the thought was that since they had no mechanical parts, they would have a longer timeframe to failure. Installations in data centers show they are more or less the same as standard hds.
That being said, they are much quicker than standard hds and if you can use one, it will really shine if you use it for your OS and programs.

Glad you got it working again. Curious which steps you took to fail and then succeed at Flash Player installation, if you can piece it together.
I actually have a similar "Mainframe" to yours: mine's a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Windoze 7 Home Premium. It was cheap.
No desire to convert to Windoze 10 at all. If this antique keeps running I'll install Linux Mint or some Ubuntu variant when that time comes.
One thing I like to do is back up 'keeper' music and photo files to a stand-alone hard drive.
